Didier Drogba Returns!

Featured Replies

Give him a chance to at least get fit before slagging him off please people!

I can't believe anybody actually is! The man is clearly unfit as you said, he's 36 years of age and guess what? He doesn't chose whether he starts/plays at all!

I can't believe so many people have given up on Drogba, can anyone here not remember Drogba at all? I mean sure I expected some because he hasn't looked all that great. But Didier was one of the most head strong players I've ever seen. There is a reason he scores on the big stages, only because he demands it, there is no way Drogba is giving up by any means and I'm sure he will help us out this season.

Don't be so negative and harsh on Didier, yes he was frustrating as hell against Schalke but I remember plenty of games where he missed good opportunities then game where he was clinical as hell. Didier wasn't the best goal scorer by any means, he won 2 golden boots yes but he was known for what he did in the side not for the tally. I'm certain he will come up big when needed.

I'm not sure if there are too many here who have actually given up on Drogba. He's off the pace now, looks well out of form at present, which doesn't mean he's not capable of making a meaningful contribution later in the season.

...... and came on against Japan and instantly changed the game.

Drogba should be third choice as a starter, simply because of his age, but as a sub coming on? It really depends on the circumstances in the match at that time. I certainly wouldn't criticize for Jose bringing him on against Citeh, especially with the height and physical power they have in their back four and midfield.

He didn't change the game. Two goals were scored after his introduction but given he didn't even have a cursory indirect role in either and you'd have to clutch at straws to try an draw an association.

Remy can jump higher and his pace means he is more forceful than Drogba. He had just scored against Swansea and was raring to go. It was either a hopeful mistake by Jose or conservative change to preserve a lead. Probably a combination of the two.

Drogba is a Chelsea legend without debate, which is why I was against his return. Now at the tender age of 36, he has to prove himself again to be Chelsea quality. It's tough on him, and tough on the manager when picking the striker when Costa is out. I'm sure he will score a few goals before the season ends, but it's tough to watch and keep watching him struggle.

Remy was disappointing against Bolton though and Didier barely had a kick as a late sub...the reliance on costa's hamstrings holding out is growing by the week

I don't disagree but I'm nowhere near ready to write off Remy just yet.

If we're over reliant on Costa bailing us out then that's a managerial or tactical problem not on the shoulders of Remy and Drogba. The team needs to be tactically flexible enough to cater to all three strikers.

I think you're selling Didier short on his role in the WC. Before he came on, Ivory Coast was throwing frantic, disorganized attack after attack. Didier immediately began dictating the pace of the attacks, not unlike Zlatan does, and imo had a huge impact on Ivory Coast's ability to be more efficient going forward.

Although Remy didnt do a great deal last night he also wasnt given the ball much. Andre and Salah were quite selfish last night and often took the shot on instead of looking up for a better option. Remy had one or two chances and tested the keeper at least once.

Drogba was prety much the same. One chance he found himself in a lot of space but the player (I cant remember who it was) took a shot instead and of course blasted it over the bar.

Last night was not a good night to judge our strikers. The players on the pitch were mostly the outsiders or the squad and were overly keen to try and impress instead of working the best of the team.

Had Cesc played and Cesc started I think it may have been different for Remy.

Thought Schurrle and Salah were both selfish also, Drogba had openings at various points. Remy wasnt good.

Also, didnt like the way Schurrle kept snatching the ball for free kicks after missing his already, when Drogba is usually so good at them.

I'd like to see Drogba given more time than a token 20 mins.

Drogba has been pretty woefull from the FK spot in the past year too.

I'd be letting Oscar hit them since he's our best bet.

Happy that Remy started, the way it should be when Costa is out.

Jose said he will be out for a couple of weeks. Shame! I would have loved to see him come on against Arsenal on Sunday and destroy them once more.

Hopefully Costa will be fit and can fill DD's boots.

  • 3 weeks later...

I said it on the other post and I'm saying it again and again that goal was magical

I know...Look at the precision of the header

That was an unbelievable strike - also props to Cesc for the delivery.

Wowowo some people might hate me for this but goal of the season for me

Edit: You did see it was Van Persie who headed it in right?

I think De Gea would have saved it without a deflection.
