Nope. Don't need any more players who may or may not be good in the future, we have enough high potential CB's as it is. If we must get a centre back then we should be looking at ones who are already the complete package and at their peak so they can come in and ease the imminent departure of JT and take pressure of Cahill afterwards.  

He's not a player for the future he us a proven top class player.

He already is an established top centre back....

He's played well when called upon but he has to play more regularly before I would start calling him top class or "established". He's not looked as good this season, even worse after his injury.

For a fee of god knows how much, without selling Luiz I really cant see this happening, a non story as far as Im concerned. We have far more pressing problems in the squad to throw 30-40 Million at first.

Well obviously he's brilliant, the idea that he would be signed as 'backup to Terry' is ridiculous. The article seems pretty speculative anyway, nothing in terms of quotes or actual evidence, plus judging by the quality of some of the centre backs Carlo has managed (Maldini, Nesta, Terry, Silva...) he wouldn't have such poor judgement to swap out Varane for Koscielny.

In addition to that we already have Zouma, Kalas, Omeruo, Chalobah (etc.) itching for first-team opportunities. That said, Varane is absolutely fantastic so if this is a realistic prospect, (and there's not really anything to suggest that it is) I would be all for it.

I dont doubt that Varane is a very accomplished player who Jose knows... What is in doubt is that spending the astronomical amount of money he would cost improving the best defence in the league (by not a small margin) as opposed to spending a similar amount of cash on improving an area of a team that have scored 30 goals less than the top 2 teams in the league.

 

If we get a decent bid for Luiz or Terry leaves then maybe this is an avenue to assess but weve only just signed Zouma who Jose waxed lyrical about in January and Kalas and Chalobah are very promising players who we still havent given the chance to play yet.

Am expecting Luiz to leave and Zouma to possibly be loaned out.

 

Varane is already an equal to Cahill who has 7 years on him and Terry is 33.

 

Players of Varane's quality don't become available every day. Madrid would be stupid to sell him and we'd be more stupid if that happened and we weren't the buyer.

If he's available at a decent price ( doubt Madrid will sell him) then we should go for him. Talents like him dont come around on the market too often.Him and Zouma maybe long term for France and Chelsea.

God No! Won't put it past us though, but we have Kalas & Zouma waiting.

This is why the media can't be taken seriously. The announcement that Luiz was leaving only happened a few hours ago and now we are getting linked with everyone.

I'd say yes. Great player. But as I suspected, Real have already dug their heels in and categorically said no. Not that I blame them. He's immensely talented now. Give it another couple of seasons and he'll be other worldly.

I would be seriously angry if we spend all the Luiz money to buy him. Even if JT hang up his boot in 2015, we still have Ivan, Kalas and the other young French guy to compete the second spot.

Rumours persisting with this one, would be an interesting signing, with JT only on a year deal we could have Kalas, Zouma and Varane on our books... That's three centre backs who could be at the club for the next 10 years or more. 

I can't see any reason why Real would want to sell him. He's a complete class act.

Agreed i dont see Madrid selling him and i dont even feel we need a CB however if we get Varane i wouldn't complain. The guy looks a special talent.
