With Man Utd looking to tie up the Luke Shaw deal after the World Cup can I suggest Daley Blind after his masterclass last night that was the catalyst to Holland's demolition of Spain, as the player we should be looking at to replace Ashley Cole.

 

It was simply the best defensive/attacking performance I have ever seen from a full back and he ran 'Dave' rugged throughout, nobody has done that in all his time at the Bridge.

 

Ajax seem to sell when the price is right, something also tells me Van G might just switch his attentions to the player who has been getting 'rave reviews' in Holland for the past two seasons.

Wait, you mean he had one good game?  Better give him 200k a week.

There's been talk of him going to United ever since van gaal took over, he plays centre mid as well, so they could get shaw and blind.

Also that's the best game he's ever played in his life, he's normally below average.

no he isn't? Unless you're strictly talking about holland NT (which he hasn't featured all that much)

I don't follow Dutch football all that much, but I'd say Blind is a very competent player. He's been selected for the national team at practically every age level. For Ajax he has been in quite a few, but not all, starting lineups since about 2 years. Ajax may have consistently won the Dutch league (they are champions now), but haven't performed well in the Champions League, sometimes not even making it to the Europa League.

All in all a good player, but not (yet) consistent.

We are signing Filipe Luis so whats the point. Plus we have PVA who is better going forward than Blind.

Buying Blind would be a big mistake.

He isn't too bad tactically but his physical attributes aren't good enough. Speed is what he lacks the most, and i'm pretty sure we will see this come to light in the games to come. 

 

He was used in a defensive midfield role by Ajax, because his passing range is decent, and he is tactically solid. 

 

Not the sollution for LB in my opinion.

I agree I saw him in Europe, he is ultra consistent and his passing range superb. Shaw could be a smokescreen and people on here who are on the assumption that this was a one game wonder have no knowledge of European football. He can play in a back 3, ideal if breaking down a bus, midfield or left wing. A great squad player and credit to you for posting it on here first.

The thing with Blind, whilst undoubtedly a good player, he lacks some pace for a LB. 

PVA is better, I had a Dutch friend who was furious that Blind got the call up instead of PVA.

A single dutch person's opinion doesn't make "PVA is better" as a fact.

I bet Robben will be licking his lips at the prospect of leaving Bayern to play for Man Utd and not play in Europe at 30 years old to play with Tom Cleverley.

By the look of Man United's first six games those triple signings will put them top of the league and in a positive frame of mind unlike with Moyes's first 6 games of last season !
