The Chronicles of Brendan 'Cringe Worthy' Rodgers

Featured Replies

Brendy doing what he does best again.

Today's topic is how Sturridge's injury cost them a CL spot and a trophy last season.

Never knew this team of "characters" was a one-man team all along.

I hope he never leaves Liverpool. Brendan is a godsend to English football!

Had a good time laughing at his recent comment, "I'm the same guy who nearly won the league, but better!"

Oh Brendan, don't go.

By the way, a decent article about him.

I feel I can always turn to him for some motivating words.

Off topic BTW Zinc: I've been meaning to ask you about your avatar, is it a drawing from a comic book?

Tbh, I'm not sure if this avatar was a photo taken directly from a comic book.

I just googled "fallout avatar" and took it from some twitter account haha.

If you had said you drew it yourself, I would have believed you

It's taken from a game called Fallout which is set in a post apocalyptic world.

The character is a sort of mascot to the game.

The character comes from the idea that if you could hide the mushroom cloud of a nuclear bomb behind your extended thumb whilst closing one eye then you was a safe distance away from the fallout.

Liverpool boo'd off at the end of tonight's game. Best fans in the world.

What a sh*t game too, as was Tottenham's game.

Liverpool seem to need about 50 chances just to score, they should easily have had 4 or 5 tonight.

I think we need to re-evaluate how good premier league sides really are - this season they all look bang average

The Premier League peaked from 2003-2010, the quality was so much better during that period compared to now.

Some hilarious stuff from Brendan's post-match interview after the Sion game.

"Ha, It's the pressures of a huge club like this."

"Like I said, I immensely enjoy the job here, It's a wonderful challenge, in terms of how we've been building it over a couple of years."

"As I said it's a rebuilding job again and as I said, we'll take it forward hopefully."

A little random, but this made me chuckle.

Of course that is a factor but I think you can see by not only the way the players play but the team selections that the English sides just don't see value in it.

That's so true. The self-entitlement that all English sides (generally) have is an insult to their European counterparts.

Keep having that same sense of entitlement and we will lose that 4th CL spot soon.

To expect Liverpool to beat Sion, Arsenal to beat Olympiakos, Chelsea to beat Porto isn't self entitlement

While I do agree that there is a somewhat stark contrast of quality (players) between each pair of teams, I still think it's a formality to play with effort and respect regardless of who your opponents are.

The bigger English teams may not field their strongest first XIs in most games against lesser European sides, but the players who do start for them, be it fringe or youth, are still representing the club (and the club's nation too). The lack of respect and motivation to give in their all in these games is what annoys me the most. Most of the time when our sides in Europe lose or draw in such games, we will hear stuff like "oh, we didn't play well today" or "we were unlucky" but we seldom acknowledge the displays put up by these lesser sides.

At the end of the day, I still think the tagline "PL is the best league in the world" sinks deep into our players' minds. The self-perceived entitlement to choose which players to field and to decide how much effort to put in in each game in Europe, will be collectively detrimental to the nation's UEFA coefficients.

Away from home? I'd hardly call it a given.

I still think the tagline "PL is the best league in the world" sinks deep into our players' minds.

Recently I discussed this tagline with someone, and in the end we concluded that there is way too much money available to PL teams, attracting players who are looking for a big payday (not all of them, mind you), but they're not necessarily top players. At least they're cheaper than British players. With a few exceptions they are of average quality. Our theory was that through the past years teams have levelled out on broadly the same quality level, on the lowest common denominator instead of the highest, like it used to be, say 10 years ago. The line "Best league in the world" is not applicable anymore, it's more "League where any club can win a match" now, flattering to deceive.

That lower level of quality manifests itself in European matches. PL teams are just not as good as they themselves and many others keep telling themselves.
