All Time Premiership 11

Featured Replies

Seeing as the Eden thread sparked a bit of debate thought i'd start an all time prem 11 thread, sorry if there is already one in place.

GK - schmeichel (SP) - Statistics could push you towards petr cech but helping denmark to win the Euro's was pretty big,

LB - Cole - No debate needed

RB  - Would saying Dan petrecu to Bias if so then I'd reluctantly have to go Gary Nevill

CB - Marcel  - I'm being a bit sentimental here because I think he only really had one truly great year with us but one of my all time favioret defenders even before he joined chelsea

CB - JT simply no debate

DM  - Claud - I'ts his position

CM - Viera - could have gone either him or roy, but think viera was slightly more polished.

CM - Lampard  - no explanation needed

AMF (think i made that up) Henry

AMF Cantona

Striker - Shearer

Was hard to leave Zola out, but in terms of shear goals I just can't put him in ahead of Henry and Shearer Bergkamp  and drogba also close.

Just on  a side note. I think I could name 10 more center mids before i would even have to think about putting steve me in

Schmeichel

Neville?(bit of a dearth of top right backs) - Ferdinand - Terry - Cole (possibly Irwin)

Ronaldo - Keane - Vieira - Giggs

Shearer - Henry

In a 4-3-3:

Schmeichel

Neville - Ferdinand - Terry - Cole

Keane - Vieira - Lampard/Scholes

Ronaldo - Henry - Giggs

I've chosen my team based on ability, not on longevity so the likes of Giggs and Gerrard don't even come into consideration.

--------------Schmeichel

Azpilicueta - Adams - Terry - Cole

--Lampard - Makelele - Scholes

----Suarez - Henry - Ronaldo

Only contentious selections I made I believe were Dave and Suarez. As mentioned above there hasn't really been a single stand out right back and I truly believe that Dave will be considered the best RB in PL history by the end of his career, he's just too good defensively, he's essentially Ash mk II.

Suarez isn't popular but I don't think anyone in PL history has single handedly carried a team to the extent he did.

'Rubber lips'........really

Better than Vidic, Adams, Marcel, Carvalho..............fuq.........I'd put Duberry there before that prick!

Cech

Neville - Stam - Terry - Cole

Ronaldo - Keane - Lampard - Pires

Shearer - Henry

Been too many good players to try and narrow it down to just a best XI in truth, I've gone for big Pete in goal, he conceded the fewest goals in a season so for that alone he deserves to be in there.

Bare in mind I only started watching football in 1996 when picking apart my team...

--------------- Cech ----------------

-------------------------------------

Petrescu -- Desailly -- JT -- A. Cole

-------------------------------------

---------------Makalele--------------

-------Wise------------Lampard-------

-------------------------------------

Robben-------------------------Hazard

----------Zola-----------------------

---------------Drogba----------------

Not a hint of bias there. I've also decided to abuse my Moderator status to allow myself a starting XII.

Although perhaps a bit harsh on Henry, Ronaldo, Shearer and the like...

Its way too difficult but I'd probably go

GK - Schmeichel

RB - Gary Neville

CB - Terry

CB - T Adams

LB - A Cole

MF - Roy Keane

MF - Lampard

MF - Zola

MF - Ronaldo

ST - Shearer

ST - Cantona

Way too hard to pick a proper formation but a 4-4-2 if I have to. Seems weird leaving out so many great players Drogba, Henry, Dennis Irwin, Bergkamp, Cech, Viera, Scholes etc

I think we should try that formation. I've always wondered how long it would take the officials to notice the extra player.

I went for a 4-3-3 because for me it's the best formation the league has ever seen.

Entirely Chels and United players, but I think that's justified when you consider the two have dominated post-2000 when I started watching.

Surprised Vidic is hardly making the sides here, he is probably the best CB I've ever seen in the Premier League, before he he had his injures in 2011 of course.

He was quality but Terry, Adams and even Stam are ahead of him

As much as we all hate him at his absolute best he is right up there, near Terry's level IMO. Also I think Makelele making some of these lists ahead of Keane and Vieira can only be chalked up to bias!

Makelele is the best DM i have ever seen, that isn't being bias, that is a view shared by many many people, including people outside of Chelsea.

That he has a place ahead of Keane and Vieira on an all-time PL side? I'm really not sure about that one. For starters, the consensus top five CMs of the PL era seems to generally be Keane, Scholes, Lampard, Vieira and Gerrard with Fabregas around the periphery. The likes of Makelele, Alonso, Essien are just a notch below for me.

Makalele is simply the finest holding midfielder that has ever played the game since the position was 'invented' If you want two box to box midfielders playing in the same team then by all means pick Keane and Vieira ahead of him but if you want to win most of your games then play Makalele.

Maka and Scholes or Maka and Lamps would make a better partnership than Keane and Vieira.

It's 'The Makalele role' for a reason. He was the best at that position.
