FA Youth Cup 2014-15

Featured Replies

Gutted I missed that tonight. Was out and then I had to pick my son up. Sounded like another classic game involving the youth team and yet another final to look forward to.

Well done CFC!

Didn't watch but seemed like a great game and fantastic comeback. Well done the youth. 4th final in 4 years, 5th in 6. Gotta start bringing some (just one?!) of these lads through.

I think we can all see how this is going to end. Sadly.

They still need two goals, have a little faith.

When we do attack, we look dangerous but we're just allowing them at us a bit too much at the moment. It must be said though, the chavs have some brilliant little players. We still have a chance of winner silverware this season

really...what`s the point of a youth team...they won`t get in to the first team

Nice positivity there.

I think we should absolutely be doing more to integrate young players into the first-team but there are some real gems in this team so maybe you could've sh*t on them somewhere else?

Real gems a...that was said of them that last year...and the year before...and the year before that...and so on.

They`re not getting picked regularly...they`re getting loaned out then sold.

I`m not sh*tting on them...the club is...the current manager is(who ever is in charge at the time).

I would love to see a youth product become a star at the club like kane is at spurs.

Superb game, colkett is a hell of a talent

Played in his rightful position, holding in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Charlie Colkett can to do what he does best and control the game from deep. Comparison with McEachran [at this stage in development] is compelling, but, unlike Josh, it’s clear Charlie likes a tackle and this sets him apart for the role. Another [similar] talent, Kyle Scott, will probably follow more in McEachran‘s footsteps, being slighter of build as well as sleight of thought and pass. Colkett’s more robust preference is to get stuck in, win the ball, then spray it about from deep and it appears that this [English style?] type of player is favoured with the captain’s armband at the top end of our development squads, with Jordan Houghton and Ruben Loftus-Cheek being two other examples.

Indeed, this is an interesting aspect when you consider that another armband-wearer in recent times has been Nathan Ake and he has come as close as anybody to taking that last definitive step towards a squad place, which is epitomised by regular appearances on the first team bench. So, does this also mean, like as not within Jose‘s coterie of caution, that those jack-in-a-boxes, Jeremie Boga and Charly Musonda are destined to wait even longer, patiently in line and some way behind the ‘Reliable Ones’? And perhaps, more importantly still, in view of Sturridge’s departure and the gold dust status of goals in the game, will any of our burgeoning list of potentially-Premiership-quality strikers ever be trusted enough to be given that elusive ‘extended run’, an undoubted prerequisite to nailing down a permanent place in any first team line-up?

Food for thought, but just for one moment back to last night, where the major difference between that performance and the lack-lustre one in the first leg was that Colkett could influence the game in relative comfort, given the insurance he had - Jake Clarke-Salter returned to strengthen the defence and our two classy full-backs, Jay Dasilva and Ola Aina, could get forward pretty much at will and as per usual. Mind you, I say pretty much because the Spurs striker Shayon Harrison, after causing first leg mayhem, continued to be a handful and looks to be just as bright a future goal-scoring prospect for them as Izzy Brown, Dominic Solanke and Tammy Abraham are for us.

So, of course, all this begs the question - shall we now see Harrison’s speedier progress through to a first team squad place, ahead of our free-scoring threesome, bearing in mind their signpost precedent of Harry Kane’s spectacular rise to fame. Okay, some will say Izzy Brown is there already, which is true, but surely this has been a matter of convenience, a qualified-name-on-list only, and to my mind, considering that Kane is miles ahead on experience and went through the loan process at Leyton Orient, it is Patrick Bamford’s progress at Middlesborough that is the only contrast that can possibly be made at this time. Moreover, it is Bamford’s summer promotion to third striker in our squad that needs to happen before any real like-for-like comparison can be made, and sadly, until that catalyst confirmation comes about, we shall continue (excuse the mangled Shakespearean misquote) to suffer media misfortune and the slings and arrows of an outraged fanbase.

Whilst I agree that enough haven't been promoted I put that down to a lack of stability in the coach's position. Hopefully that changes next season because I would love to be able to sing 'he's one of our own' too.

Awesome comeback :) I had mentioned somewhere why I think Colkett is different from Josh. In a nutshell, all his passes, shots and tackles have more jizz. Solanke is extremely good. I love how he always gets at the end of crosses and is there to support a counterattack. Some good hold up play and runs by Abraham. Aina was also excellent, good skillful player. Boga played well too and what a run from Musonda that was!

I really think one or two will make the first team (including all those on loan, that is). We have some really special players on the cusp.

He's been impressive every time I've seen him. He was superb tonight.

Don't get me wrong, he's a good player for his level but I'm not quite on the same hype train everyone on ChelseaTV seems to be on regarding him.

This isn't really his level though - he's still only 16. He was the youngest player in the side and possibly the only 16 year old on the pitch and he's a converted left-wing.

Every time I watch this kid he reminds me of a very young Ashley Cole.

See Man City are 3-0 up from their first leg against Leicester but the second leg isn't until the 8th April so the final is a way off yet.
