Ruben Loftus-Cheek

I was referring to Ruben's 90 minutes against Liverpool for being the basis of your comparison to Tammy's full season.

I'd love to be able to say RLC has improved under Conte, but I've struggled to see that in the 31 minutes of league football he's played for us this season...

Apologies then, i wrongly assumed you were talking about Bamford.

As for that Liverpool game Ruben came in and put in a MOTM performance in a massive game for us.

If Tammy comes back i doubt he'll get more than 31 minutes of league action for us.

If Abraham was so special he wouldn't have been shipped out. If Abraham comes back do you honestly see him making more minutes than RLC makes currently? Absolutely not. He spends the entire time in the stands too.

We had Costa and Bats and he outgrown U23 football so he needed to step up to mens football which is why we went him out on loan. Even our own youth coaches could not have imagined Abraham being a little shy of 30 goals in his first full season of professional football. And Abraham I think is highly rated by the club but I think will go out on loan out another PL club where he can play week in, week out.

Being from Nottingham all my close friends have seasons tickets for either Forest or Derby and all said when they saw Abraham play he was incredibly clumsy on the ball. Looked deadly inside the box and clumsy outside of it.

Interesting, the truth is probably somewhere inbetween.

Sounds like Costa.

He was shipped out on loan because he was never going to get enough minutes here and he did fairly well for his first senior season I would say, If he comes back this year I doubt he would get much time, just as Ruben will if he stays. I doubt he will though. Both likely to go on loan next year to a prem team. My guess is Abraham gets a lot of playing time, scores a few goals while Ruben sits in the stands watching and Chelsea fans blames another manager for not playing him

Which massive game was this? Are we talking about the dead rubber game when we had already won the lague were he was hooked after 60 mins?

A game against Liverpool or any rival is never dead rubber. Massive pressure to do well in those games, which he did.

It was a dead rubber, hence why he was given gametime.

Was it dead rubber for Liverpool who were chasing European qualification places? They gave it their all and RLC still pocketed them all.

I dont give a sh*t about Liverpool, it was a dead rubber for us. There was no pressure. "Pocketed them all"? That explains why he was subbed after 60 mins

That contrasts with what many pundits were saying about him and indeed the Bristol City supporter who took the trouble to post on here and advise what a good player he was.

I rate all our youngsters and it is very subjective to say who deserves s crack at the first team and who doesn't. As much as I rate RLC, I must admit I can't even recall the Liverpool game you keep mentioning - the best I have seen of him was when he made a cameo sub appearance against Stoke. It is more difficult for RLC to force his way into the side due to the competition whereas depending on what happens with the striker situation, Tammy could easily get game time if he was one of the three strikers for next seasons squad.

Subbed after 60 minutes with 100% pass accuracy and tackle success. 60 minutes under Mourinho is like starting an entire season under any other manager. Fact still stands that he was playing a very good side who were giving it their all and still couldn't break RLC down.

The Liverpool game and i think it was the Maccabi game were stand outs. I think they're available on Youtube if you wish. As for Tammy, a loan is best for him next season. We saw how little game time Michy got, can't see Tammy even making it onto the pitch sadly next year for us should he stay.

Don't misunderstand this, I like Ruben a great deal and I think he might be the future, if he steps up a level as we expect him to, BUT, the vast majority of that video shows him passing sideways or backwards, the exact same things that Mikel got slaughtered for in here nearly every game.  It might well be that this video isn't the best representation of the best of Ruben, but someone has been punting this match as an example of how good he is and how he deserves to be a first team squad regular, and all it showed me was a younger Mikel, with a lot to learn and with aspirations to be as good as Mikel, one day.

Another yoof player who won't make it here. Nathan Ake will be loaned out this summer too.

Why do we do this?

I would rather they 'not make it here' than start blooding youth not good enough for the sake of it, ie what United did with Lingard.

Agreed. But look at Ake, then. I think he is good enough to start for us yet we all know he won't get a chance come next season. Or the season after that.

As for RLC, I've never been convinced about him.

I'm not convinced, he can be a good squad player but if he prefers to be a starter elsewhere then good luck to him.

Do what? Loan players out?

Why do you have a problem with it?  Serious question

Again like the rest I haven't seen enough of RLC. What I have seen suggests he could make it at EPL level though not under Conte.

I see RLC as an attacking midfielder in a midfield 4 or 5 not a DM just not mobile enough around the park.

He has a good eye for goal and is a powerful lad just not quick enough at the top level yet someone like a Bournemouth or Burnley might give him game time.

Re Ake yes he may become surplus to requirements and be loaned out or sold yet he made a winning semi-final performance for us against Spurs at Wembley, what an experience for an up and coming player.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm feeling bad for him, he is a very talented player and suits to the premier league. His speed, dribbling, physically.

When I look at Rashford, I see a very good player and can improve himself to become better and better, but he was given a proper chance to prove himself. United had no strikers, and he was the last one, a striker from the academy and then scored twice in his debut in the Europe League. Then continued to play and scored against Arsenal on his first start in the Premier League. He was trusted and had enough time to prove himself. He has 43 appearances in the league already. Same with Lingard, he even spent few seasons on loan and proved himself with a proper chance that he was given.

Iwobi had a period that he was starting games for Arsenal, proved his good form there. Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies, Holgate, this trio from Everton enjoyed their football this season as well. They had their chance to play and proved themselves. Performed more than 10 games this season. ( Most of them were in the starting lineup ).

RLC isn't worse than them! We can't even know how his career can turn up. If he looks to play then he probably should leave the club, he has to play. I still believe in him, I have a feeling that he can be a good box to box midfielder.

News around him are quiet, last season Conte didn't really rate him, can't see something different this season.
