With nothing much happening as of yet in the winter window, our thoughts should be what are JM's plans for the summer window ?

 

Drogba will be off to the states by the sounds of it. So we will be needing another center forward, a hold up target man. 

 

The only position that Jose has regularly rotated is the right forward position, were struggling for goals from that side and JM will probably look to strengthen that position, maybe at the cost of Schurlle leaving.

 

The future of our defence is up in the air. A lot of goals we concede come from our right, Ivanovic and Cahill have been targeted by opposition recently as our weak point. I'm not sure what will happen here, Jose could change things around, Zouma is starting to get game time, but he is still very young. A lot depends on what happens between now and May. Will JT carry on for much longer at this level ? If Zouma shows maturity in the CB position he could crowbar himself into the team for next season. We could also have Kalas pushing for a position, maybe wishful thinking, but he does look very good, not forgeting Christensen, another great future prospect.

 

I think at least 3 new signings coming in.

We definitely don't need a RB.  Ivanovic has always been a CB playing RB because we had Terry, Cahill and Luiz in the CB position.  I fully expect Terry's minutes to start being limited next season and Ivanovic to fill in the CB role when that occurs.  Azpilicueta will move over to his nature RB position and Filipe Luis will play LB next year.  We will have Kalas and Zouma backing up the CB with Ivanovic being in a super sub role (I can see him playing a Ramires type midfield position too).

We definitely need a Attacking Wing Midfield (hopefully Reus, but I'd take Draxler also), because Salah and Schurrle aren't very reliable.  

I think we are set for CF, mainly because I think Bamford is looking like he could be a solid #3 option, but I wouldn't be surprised if we brought someone like Charlie Austin, Berahino, or Ulloa in as our #3 choice.  

Other than that, if we plan on keeping Cech, I don't think we need anything right now.

We're in the quite fantastic position of not really having any pressing urges, our starting 11 is quite set unless JT suddenly deteriorates towards the end of the season.

 

I think we'll go for quality over quantity and look for opportunities, names like Koke/Varane/Pogba/Draxler/Reus spring to mind.

I've been saying it for a while but I think all we should be looking for in the summer is an upgrade for Salah (a much better player too who can bring more creativity to the side) an upgrade on Mikel, many might disagree but I stand by what I've originally said for years now, I think we would be better off investing in the likes of Imbula or somebody, a comfortable passer on the ball, Mikel lacks so much ambition for me and it's frustrating at times.

 

And perhaps for a new player we should be looking at a back up centre back, I still think we are thin in that area, although that should be the least thing we need than the two upgrades I think.

It would be nice, but that's around £100m of transfers which I don't think we can do. More likely I would expect one big money signing and perhaps one squad player.

I don't think we can spoil ourselves with that quality, when I said we needed upgrades I talking more of players who have point to prove. I mean signing Pogba alone will be huge and that's just the price I'm talking about.

 

You can't forget about FFP, if we are to sign those types of players then we need to offload some, Varane? Now I'm not just picking on your suggestions just making a point because I'm sure many others want these types of players. However we still have JT and Cahill, say what you want about Cahill he is still a top draw defender, you can't forget his performances last season. I think with Zouma benching him will make him fight for his place again, do him some favours.

 

Personally I would just like a back up centre back for back up reasons. Varane would just be a kick in the teeth to either at least one of our defenders really, and I like all 3 of them.

 

The only one out of the bunch I would like to see us go for is Reus, since he is cheap too, you have to think about the prices, although he would be expected to start every game it's not really something you should pass up on, rotation would work I think, but it would definitely mean a lot of less game time for the likes of Willian and Schurrle.

Yeah probably mate, we'll have some decent money from sales though, Schurrle looks to be off at the latest this summer, Salah wouldn't surprise me if he went, that's about 32mil there.

 

If I was being really greedy I'd say Bale but it's not financially viable.

I think we could bring back Bertrand instead of buying Varane. Then we could move Azpilicueta over to RB and use Ivanovic as a CB. Reus and Pogba would be great additions to our team though.

Without Varane it would be about £80m. We could sell Salah (£10mil), Shurrle (£20mil), Ramires (£20mil-£25mil) or Mikel (£10mil-£15mil) to make it just a £25m-£40m investment.

Varane isnt for sale. He is one of Reals prized possetions. Hes not going anywere

Varane, Reus and Isco. Like someone else said, just promote Loftus-Cheek instead of buying Pogba or the like to save us millions. We have Solanke, Ake, Bamford and baker too. We really only need the three I mentioned. Whether Real would let two top class players (and potential world beaters) go, is another thing altogether.

Costa/Remy/Bamford - where's the aerial threat lads? City have been successful domestically in recent years because of the adaptability in their squad, while I agree Bamford deserves a chance, assuming Drogs retires/leaves we have no 'plan B' with that front 3. I'd hope we'd be in for Kane/Dzeko/Benteke/Muller/Mandzukic to give us an aerial threat, but if any of them are unavailable for whatever reason, at 6.4" i'd be happy to see Stipe Perica in the squad for next season (as the 3rd/4th choice striker alongside Bamford). Mario Gomez??

If I remember correctly you were a massive supporter of Nathaniel Chalobah? His career at Chelsea doesn't look like it's going to kickstart any soon. I for one would love to see more youth play, it was one of the few things I liked about Rafa he liked to give Ake a good run out. But I think with the way things have been dealt with in the past here I don't have much faith in the youth set up, not to sell at least 4-5 players and just bring in 2 and promote youth faith anyway.

Loved Nat, still think he's a quality player but he lost all momentum after coming back from Watford. That was the time to promote him but the Forest loan was a disaster. Think he's been overtaken by Ake and probably Loftus-Cheek now so not sure how he recovers.

 

I don't for a million years think we'd just bring in two which is why I kinda copped out saying we'd have money to spend. Thought about saying we could go for a Varane and look to get that defence sorted long-term but not sure where else we'd need to strengthen at this point in time. The team we have is already pretty decent and it's really only the right-wing we need to upgrade.

 

I think Ake is a solid player and I doubt he's going anywhere. The guy is just quality and covers left-back, centre-back and DM. Loftus-Cheek will probably be kept around too and I'd expect Bamford to come back simply because it's now or never with him. Then there's one of Kalas and Omeruo to return. But that all depends on where we finish this season.
