March 17, 201511 yr I don't think it was a straight fee, but it was high. I thought he really must have been the next Kaka at the time. Big fee for a 17 year old.
March 17, 201511 yr I think there are better signs of Oscar improving than Willian. Willian has never been a player that scores a lot of goals or get a lot of assists. Going forward he is pretty poor to be honest, Ivanovic is a better winger than Willian is. I also don't see how he is anymore consistent either. I can't think of any games where Willian has had an outstanding performance for us. Oscar atleast shows signs that he can become a better player. Up until Christmas last season he was one of our best players, and for a couple of months this season he was very good too. If he could just learn to be consistent for more than a few months of a season we would have a top player. I agree about Douglas Costa though, we need quality in our midfield and Douglas Costa isn't quality. I would much rather stick with Ramires and Mikel than sign Douglas Costa, an average player who would no doubt cost us between £17-£25 million pounds. Oscar is good at the beginning of the season after that he's pretty much useless. William seem more active in the field than Oscar. In the last few matches when oscar played, I even didn't know he was on the pitch. He wasn't productive at all. William at least works kid ass off and I think it also motivated the team as well. If I had to choose between Willian and Oscar I wiuld definetely stick with Willian. It's just my opinion.
March 17, 201511 yr Based on what? I doubt anyone has seen Kenedy play and spending £8mil on a player who isn't going to be part of the team seems excessive. The club has been scouting him for a while and considering the fact that we seem to make a profit on the majority of our transfers at the moment means we can afford to spend this kind of money on a player if we want to. Every transfer is a risk and I'd rather invest in him now then have us buy him in a few years time for £30mil
March 17, 201511 yr If Willian could just improve his movement off the ball, it would help this team a lot. Both Hazard and Willian like to receive the ball to feet. This is where Schurrle stood out. Getting on the end of things, runs in behind. At the moment, too often it's just Costa making the runs and everyone else coming short to receive to feet.
March 17, 201511 yr All three of Hazard, Willian and Oscar are natural no.10's who like to receive the ball centrally and dictate play, although Hazard is way more versatile and talented than the other two. We took a step in the right direction imo by signing Cuadrado who is happier making off the ball runs and we'll see the benefit once he's settled. I haven't seen much of Costa but he seems to be in a similar mould to the former three and unless he's going to be better than Oscar or Willian we should probably be looking at a different type of player.
March 31, 201511 yr Here we are expecting Bale to Chelsea... but Mourinho has other plans! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelseas-douglas-costa-transfer-chase-5436275

March 31, 201511 yr Because the daily mirror says so? I pray that this is just another bullsh*t story. We shouldn't be going anywhere near Douglas Costa, we can do far better without spending this much money.
April 4, 201511 yr If we sign him, i wonder if there will ever have been a signing for Chelsea that the fans wanted less than this. Edited April 4, 201511 yr by Zeta Orionis
April 4, 201511 yr If we sign him, i wonder if there will ever have been a signing for Chelsea that the fans wanted less than this. Yossi Benayoun says hello.
April 4, 201511 yr Yossi Benayoun says hello. Ugh, I'd almost forgotten he ever played for us. Why would you remind me.
April 4, 201511 yr Ugh, I'd almost forgotten he ever played for us. Why would you remind me. To try and make Douglas Costa look like a good signing if we buy him.
April 6, 201511 yr Apparently Liverpool want to snatch him from our grasp for £20 mil. Fingers crossed!!
April 6, 201511 yr For Chelsea, I can't see why Douglas Costa would be any more than a squad player. He's good at crossing and free kicks, but he's been no more than decent in the UCL and he's not as hard working as Willian or Oscar. He is at best on Oscar's level technically and IMO below Willian. I'd honestly prefer to keep Oscar instead. Edited April 6, 201511 yr by DaRick
April 6, 201511 yr Yossi Benayoun says hello. At least he was cheap. Completely pointless transfer though.
June 5, 201511 yr Telegraph reporting we've agreed a £20m deal to sign Douglas Costa. You wanted in form hot property Griezmann? Tough, you're getting another South American playing in a lesser league who runs around a lot. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/11653213/Chelsea-transfer-news-and-rumours-Blues-to-complete-20-million-move-for-Douglas-Costa.html
June 5, 201511 yr is he any good? Bayern were supposed to be in for him but personally....meh. If he comes in for Cuadrado then we're probably better as a squad (based on the Columbian's form) but he certainly doesn't take us to that next level like certain players might. He probably adds strength in depth and may surprise but that's about it for me. Price is decentish, wages will be £60-80k and blah blah blah....who cares? He's a decent player who fits Jose's style and doesn't break the bank. Edited June 5, 201511 yr by Blue Daze
June 5, 201511 yr What a 'meh' signing this will be: Willian - £30m Salah - £11m Cuadrado - £26m Douglas Costa - £20m. £87m spent on average right wingers. That's Bale money.
