January 25, 201511 yr Only a slight improvement doesn't justify the cost imo. I think we would be lucky if he dosen't turn out worse then what we already have to be honest. I will be hoping that nothing comes of this deal.
January 25, 201511 yr No. Please. PLEASE NO. Why are we throwing money at mediocrity. Is he a terrible player? I don't think I can recall watching him play to be honest mate. But we seriously need to replace Salah and honestly I just want a player that is actually useful and will bring something to the side. From what I'm hearing a lot of people actually rate Willian more.
January 25, 201511 yr I'm rarely negative about transfers but I can't see the logic in this. Once again we seem to be overpaying for an average Brazilian talent who has only ever had success in the Ukraine. Very worried about this one.
January 25, 201511 yr I know almost nothing about Costa, surprised that pretty much everyone commenting is against this transfer. Jose gets it right more times than wrong with transfers and so if this is his way of correcting the Salah mistake I would hope he's not replacing one bad transfer with another. There was a lot of apprehension about the Diego Costa transfer, many on this forum didn't rate him or want him, might just be Jose sees something in his namesake many of us don't.
January 25, 201511 yr If he is here to replace Salah then I'm all for it. He can't be worse than Salah.
January 26, 201511 yr Very much against this one, not an international, will add nothing more to the squad than what we already have.
January 26, 201511 yr This has Willian written all over it again. An above-average talent playing in the Ukrainian league who has barely featured for the international team and has mediocre stats in a mediocre league....for £20 million-odd quid. I really hope I'm wrong about this but I'm dreading us signing him. Cuadrado makes sense to me, he's an upgrade on what we have and gives us something new. This guy....???

Hahaha true, but I think Jose like Willian type of players who can just run & run & run like machines tirelessly and defends more than they attack. So it can be the case why we're signing him. Otherwise Cuadrado is much better than him and is not much expensive than him.. Edited January 26, 201511 yr by CFCBlue12
January 26, 201511 yr Running is great and all, but we're not assembling a cross country team here. Relying on Hazard and Oscar as our only consistent goal threats from midfield is dangerous imo.
January 26, 201511 yr You can't have too many Costas. That's my motto. I love a Costa, large Latte to go please.
January 26, 201511 yr He's not even an international how would this improve the squad? Brazil is an odd one, don't always necessarily pick their best players. If we were to sign this lad you can bet he would suddenly start getting called up all the time like Willian has.
January 27, 201511 yr People are wondering why our potential deals scream Willian... It's because he's sub-par. That may be my unpopular opinion but we're getting rid of salah and Schürrle because they don't produce, and we're aiming for some players to compete with Willian because he's struggling. In my opinion he holds onto the ball too long every time, and can't finish.
January 27, 201511 yr bring in this lad for salah by all means, but don't pay more than 16 million, and also buy cuadrado.
January 27, 201511 yr Is this a Jose signing, and Cuadrado? both seem to tick the box of being "industrious" and "hard working" which are traits that Jose likes; however, do we really need more Jarosik's on the sheets? With all the comings and goings of players and coaches, I can't remember who all signed who, but has Jose ever really made a "creative" signing?

Racking my brains, only ones I can think of are SWP and Malouda.
January 27, 201511 yr Does fabregas class as creative? Kalou was a Jose signing I think, he was erm...creative'ish
January 27, 201511 yr Racking my brains, only ones I can think of are SWP and Malouda. Does fabregas class as creative? Kalou was a Jose signing I think, he was erm...creative'ish Exactly, yes I'd certainly say that Fabregas is a creative signing, but again he's more central. I'm starting to worry, a little, that Jose's overly pragmatic style of play (historically) may be something tough for him to shake when it comes to identifying talent.

In fairness looking at the squads he inherited creativity wasnt the problem. first squad had duff, robben, Joe Cole. 2nd time round Hazard, Salah, Oscar, Schurle, signed Willian (does he class as creative?)
January 27, 201511 yr Does fabregas class as creative? Kalou was a Jose signing I think, he was erm...creative'ish Yeah, those through balls that he disguised as completely scuffed shots were full of creativity I miss Sala. Cult hero.
