Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He probably just has faith in his own abilities and doesn't think he would be a bit part player and in truth considering the fee he would command I doubt he would be anything but a regular for whoever bought him.

At Chelsea for example he'd walk into the starting XI ahead of Willian and Cuadrado. He's got better end product than Navas at City.

He's not the end product by any means but he's a very good player.

I don't think Jose would pick him over Willian, not a chance.

He doesnt track back for starters and we would get hammered down the right hand side as Ivan bombs forward at will.

City he has a better chance but I'm still not so sure.

No doubting his ability, I rate the kid but he doesn't seem to want to learn his trade at a team who still can challenge...he has plenty of time to move on if it's not going to plan.

It will be interesting to see if his contract demands go down if another club comes in for him....I somehow very much doubt it.

I think Sterling could do worse than to go to Arsenal. Admittedly they don't often win trophies nowadays, but are usually challenging (sort of), and he will at least be more or less guaranteed a regular run in the Champions League. He won't be as much of a focal point with us or City, and may even be expected to change his game somewhat to allow Hazard/Silva to play their natural game. In terms of outside bets - Bayern?

Sterling saying "I would have signed last season but not this season" isn't really the best sign for Liverpool. It's impossible to tell whether he's talking about their proximity to trophies or the amount of money he now realises he can demand, but either way all the noises he is making suggest he is very open to the idea of moving. While he hasn't been as effective in this half of the season, I do think he is a remarkable talent and Liverpool's best attacking player, and will likely be a genuine force in the future. I'm not really sure we particularly need him, especially for the money he would move for; he wouldn't start over Hazard and I would probably keep Willian as our starter on the right, at least for the bigger games; surely he won't be content with a place on the bench, even if it does mean more money and more trophies.

Wherever he ends up, we can at least sit back and enjoy the furious indignation of the Liverpool fans.

He doesn't track back because that's the system he is playing in. Brendan "defending is easy" Rodgers allows his attackers a lot if freedom with little defensive responsibility and that's why they shipped 50 goals last season.

Nothing says he wouldn't adapt and improve that side of his game at Chelsea, much like Joe Cole did. Also what's to say Ivanovic's role would stay the same should we sign someone like Sterling, I think half of Ivanovic's license to bomb forward is because of Willian's lack of final product in the opposition half.

Looking at the output of attackers Mourinho has previously worked with such as Joe Cole, Robben, Duff, Di Maria, Ronaldo I refuse to believe he is that happy with Willian's contribution that's why Cuadrado was bought in and that's why we're being linked with a whole host of right wingers, Sterling included and in my books he'd be an improvement but wouldn't be my personal choice of a new winger.

I think he's just being honest when he says he would've signed last season BUT then they sold the best player in the league after coming within two points of winning the title and spent half that money on Lovren and Lallana. What exactly is Liverpool's ambition and does it mesh with his?

Funny how some people are getting on his back when I seem to recall many Chelsea fans (rightly in my opinion) defending Ashley when everyone was slagging him off.

He comes across as very shy but quite honest in many ways and I think that's what pisses off the holier than thou lot up in scouseland. Playing for the shirt should be enough for them because success and trophies are hardly in abundance and he isn't exactly a Gerrard or Fowler who is born and bred. He's a Jamaican who moved to north-west London so he's hardly 'one of them'.

I also think it's incredibly classless of Rodgers to discuss his contract in the public eye, something that I'm assured isn't 'the Liverpool way'.

I didn't get any of the arrogance that a lot speak of when referring to Sterling and his interview. He wants to win trophies and I don't resent him for that. Him turning down the 100k a week contract isn't an example of his greed but rather his determination to win silverware. He's young, English and very talented. Has a lot of potential like a lot of our players which if reached is a scary prospect.

Rodgers added: "Concentration should be on his football. If his ambition is to win trophies that's aligned with what we do here." What a comedian. Get him booked for the apollo

"This is one of the great clubs of the footballing world and, for Raheem, to be playing here it's an honour," added Rodgers. "He understands that, he sees that."

Predictable stories in couple of papers now saying we are in for him...where will he play exactly? His agent is more see through than clingfilm

I can't take what is written about Chelsea and transfers in the papers seriously, we get linked with every player. They probably get 1 in every 100 right.

Throw enough sh*t at a wall, and some of it will stick

Haha well José is stirring the pot:

"Every player has a price. It doesn't matter which player. If you ask me now, for example, Eden Hazard, we can speak about him because he's signed a new contract.

"Do I want him to leave Chelsea? No. If he wants to leave, if he doesn't want to work with me, if he doesn't want to play for Chelsea, does Eden Hazard have a price? I think he has a price.

"I also understand the philosophy of managers and clubs who want to keep the players at any price, who want just to say, 'there is no price to sell - the player stays, whatever'.

"My philosophy is not better than that - it's just different. Either way, when a player has a contract with a club, the club, the manager and the board have the power to decide what to do."

Some journos are better than others, but some stories are so obvious, like all the sterling bs this week..straight from the agent's mouth...certainly not looking a £50m player or one worth £180,000-a-week today...not that it is a surprise to me...overrated

Not too sure id want him anyway, seems too much like a spoilt brat i.e. not wanting to play for England under 21s, and when he does get in the England first team he says he is too tired to play. That sort of attitude could disrupt our changing room.....
