May 11, 201511 yr Fair to say he needs an absolutely massive improvement for him to be considered for the first team next season. All very well saying he needs time and / or a pre-season but he should have shown us glimpses of something by now. Not only have I not seen him beat a defender yet but he has been made to look a complete mug twice now when players are taking him on. Last week by Zaha against Palace and this week by one of the Liverpool wide players. The signs are not good.
May 11, 201511 yr Author I'm starting to wonder if what has happened is like if you do an online food shop with Tesco or whoever and if they haven't got what you ordered they send you a substitute. So we sent our order for a first class, pacey winger but they was all out of stock of those so they sent us the Smart Price version instead.

We keep choosing wingers who cant score or set things up.
May 11, 201511 yr Author Trouble is our manager and others choose this guy. We keep choosing wingers who cant score or set things up. No, they ordered the premium right winger, someone just forgot to check the delivery note when they dropped off the sub standard substitute and now we can't return it. We'll just have to leave him sitting on the bottom shelf gathering dust until we get desperate... Or we're drunk.
May 11, 201511 yr It's worrying how much we've spent on wingers in just 2 years and still haven't got anyone who can really make a difference. £30m on Willian, £11m on Salah, £27m on Cuadrado. We need to be spending our money very well with the FFP restrictions and that's over £60m and you could argue the majority of that has been wasted, We could probably get £12-15m back on Curadrado if we sold him in the summer, most likely back to Italy. Maybe the same for Salah if Fiornetina want to keep him. That would give us about £25-30m to replace those 2 with 1 quality player, but we would really have to spend it wisely this time.

Not forgetting £18m on Schurrle. That's £86m spent on one position in two years. To be honest I think the club just needs to suck it up this summer and look to buy a real top quality winger. Just stump up the cash for a Griezmann, Koke, Rues, Bale, Thomas Muller... whoever, it's the one area of the team where I feel a significant improvement could and should be made.

No more gambles, we need the finished article now as we have wasted two years trying out players who don't seem to work. It's just annoying knowing that the money we have spent we could have had a Sanchez on that side which would have been ideal. Oh well.
May 11, 201511 yr Does anyone see us seriously spending 80 million on bale? (Not that I think he'll go anyway). That kind of money is immense and bale just doesn't come across as a José type of player; his work rate is way below par. Unless José plans on playing a different style of football next season, I don't see how bale would fit in here. Edited May 11, 201511 yr by enigma

Unless José plans on playing a different style of football next season, I don't see how bale would fit in here. No I don't think we'll buy Bale personally, if he came on the market I expect that City and United would blow us out the water with regards to wages being offered. The point I was more trying to make is that rather than targeting the level of player that Cuadrdo and Salah are I think the club should go for the real top class attacking player which includes Bale in that bracket. I just feel that a truly top class right sided attacker is the main thing our team lacks. If we can add that during the summer then I think our team goes up a level.
May 11, 201511 yr Not that many out there on the market though, barring griezmann. I hear we are looking at pedro, but his best days seem behind him unless he can recapture some of his old form.
May 11, 201511 yr We don't need Bale to go up a level. Greizmann, Reus and maybe even Pedro and the likes are still out there to be got. I'd rate them as being far more effective in the final third than the likes of Willian, Salah adnd Cuadrado. It would mean not everything would need to go down our left hand side which in return would mean Hazard would have more room to create and score. It's the one position we are struggling with, just as we got the strikers one sorted out too!

I hear we are looking at pedro, but his best days seem behind him unless he can recapture some of his old form. There probably aren't that many out there no but we're in as good a position as any club could ask for to attract those players. Current league champions, one of the best managers in the industry, relatively young side so no short termism, fresh injection of money into the club with the new TV and shirt sponsor deals. Basically we have to exploit our current position to bring in that elite player in my opinion. That's what we did when we signed Hazard. When there was a risk of missing out on Champions League football we agreed a deal to sign Marin. That's what a difference success makes to the caliber of player you can attract,
May 17, 201511 yr Right now I would not hesitate to swap Cuadrado with Bolasie at Palace. There is a player who constantly causes defenders problems and knows how to beat his man.
May 17, 201511 yr Bolasie is awesome, been following after him few games, especially against Liverpool. Worth a try, but I still think we need to give Cuadrado next season.
May 17, 201511 yr Right now I would not hesitate to swap Cuadrado with Bolasie at Palace. There is a player who constantly causes defenders problems and knows how to beat his man. Bolasie is experienced in this league. Once again my response it's along the lines of not judging Cuadrado after 261 league minutes.

May 17, 201511 yr Bolasie is experienced in this league. Once again my response it's along the lines of not judging Cuadrado after 261 league minutes. I know what you're saying but to be honest I don't think it matters what league you are playing in. You either have the ability to go past defenders and beat them or you don't. I know he hasn't had a lot of game time but by now, we should have at least seen him skin a defender - turn one inside out. We've seen nothing of the sort and although he may improve next season I really haven't seen anything to make me even slightly confident that will happen.
May 17, 201511 yr I think if Cuadrado gets a start in either of the final two games he needs to grasp it with both hands. His attacking outlet has been poor but I think Mourinho will have noted the last two home games the ease at which he was beaten for pace in defensive situations. Personally if anyone came in for him in the summer I'd take the hit on price and get rid rapidly.
May 18, 201511 yr Bolassie is so incredibly inconsistent. Definition of a confidence player, I doubt he would see the pitch under José, you never know what kind of performance youre getting.
May 18, 201511 yr Bolassie is so incredibly inconsistent. Definition of a confidence player, I doubt he would see the pitch under José, you never know what kind of performance youre getting. And that sums up what separates the TOP players from the others. You're right, he probably isn't good enough (or consistent enough) to be a Chelsea player - a bit like we found out with Moses. But from what I've seen, in a game that needed changing with 25 minutes to go, I would rather see Bolasie coming off the bench than Cuadrado.
May 18, 201511 yr Oh Barak, so easy to forget just how good Joey was at his peak. And loved the fans and the club as much, if not more than anyone. Now there IS a player who could go past defenders for fun. I miss him too
