Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

We've got Champions League next week and he can play then...And somehow (although I can't be sure of course) I don't think he sees himself as a victim......

...In any situation.

ARSENAL FAN HERE. Some of you lot are really something else. FA bias against Chelsea eh? L.M.A.O. I suppose Mike Dean never got the memo then. Open your eyes ffs, Costa is nothing more than a dirty, cheating, wind up merchant. Literally everyone (including your own player Zouma, bless him) but Chelsea fans sees this clear as day.

Fair play to the few of you who admitted that Costa is dirty. The rest of you....lol. I guess his antics towards Koscielny (two handed slap to the face, one handed swipe to the face, chest pump) were somehow completely legal in your world. Those wimps over at Arsenal eh.

Oh and all the match goers, please keep chanting Diego Diego Diego everytime Costa stamps on someone shins, spits on them, slaps them in the face, headbutts them, scratches them like a rabid feline etc. etc. like you've been doing. It helps the football world identify what type of people are supporting your club. This isn't directed to all of you, saw some very reasonable posts here.

Good news, mummy has found your dummy, so stop crying now.

Oh by the way, thanks for the three points knew we could rely on yous as usual.

Do call again, always glad to hear how losers feel.

I'll reply to this since from what I skimmed, all the other replies weren't worth much.

You talk about "the abuse Costa recieves from defenders"? Lol. What do you honestly expect when the player literally goes out week after week with the intention of abusing opposition players. This is a fact, can't dispute it no matter how biased you may or may not be. Just ask your own Kurt Zouma. So you basically expect Costa to be able to abuse everyone else without consequence? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You described attacking fans for supporting their players as "laughable". So you're basically, no, literally, saying no matter what a players antics are like on the field, you as a fan must support him at all times. Look, if an Arsenal player goes and obviously intentionally breaks opposition's legs, I'm not going to support him, Arsenal player or not. Being a football fan doesn't mean you have to completely abandon your morals. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

According to the rules of the game, Gabriel deserved his red, no question about it. His ban should have stood.

The "niggles" you talk about will always be a part of the game; with what's at stake it's almost human nature to look for any advantage you can possibly get, even unfair ones at times. However, Costa takes to a whole different level. Abusing other players is a huge part of his game. Stomping on Skrytel while he was lying on the ground. Spitting in his hand then throwing it in Sergio Ramos' face, multiple times in one game. Sneakily headbutting players as he walks past them. Clawing Gabriel's neck to the point of leaving very visible marks. Shocking behavior, and it's consistent. You have to draw a line and some point, otherwise the game falls into chaos.

He's basically a bully/b**ch on the field. He bullies other players and then b**ches to the ref when they react. No one wants to see that, in real life, or on the pitch.

Arsenal have a poor disciplinary record, can't argue with facts. Many Arsenal fans, myself included would make the point that we get more than our fair share of unfair decisions/ sending off's (like this weekend) but I'm not going to bother with that argument because I know no matter how convincingly presented, a Chelsea forum is just not the place for it.

If Costa was going around intending to break players legs every week he wouldn't have lasted long as a footballer he most likely would never even have been able to become a profession footballer and definitely would never have gotten himself into a position where he has supporters that will support him. Also I'm pretty sure my morals don't need correcting, but I could be wrong maybe being a Chelsea fan is seen as Immoral to some people. I also think you will find I haven't condoned his actions and have also said the ban isn't overly unfair. I don't think any of his antics during the game were worth a red card and therefore maybe 3 games is harsh but he was definitely deserving of about 4 yellows. I also think some of these antics were pathetic mainly the card waving and the scratch however neither of which are harmful or violent just annoying and childish.

However that doesn't mean you can't support the good in a player especially when usually the childish antics are at a minimum

and he is massively punished for his behavior but not in the conventional way his antics cost him the respect of the ref and thus there is a huge amount of penalties and fouls not given against him that should have been it also proceeds in him getting booked for diving when clearly there is contact.

Do I wish the childish antics were removed from his game if the refs treated him more fairly then it might be useful to try and remove the childish but i don't see that happening also you might remove the physical bullish side of his game, which is really something to behold and admire and frankly a bit of physicality in a supposedly contact sport should never be frowned upon. Yes his childish antics are an unpleasant aspect to his game but fronting up the odd defender and going chest to chest with a player who has been nipping at his heels all day should quite frankly be applauded not ridiculed. As you have pointed out sometimes this goes to far and he needs to learn to control it better but scratching someone is no more petulant than kick out and elbowing some in the back of the head is even worse is everyone jumping on Gabriel's back saying he is a disgusting human being and calling for his head. No. People in the heat of the game when emotions are running high make the odd mistake and make the odd rash judgement call, Costas stamp on Skrtel was his most and only violent offense (as the rest really are really either just a bit disgusting in the case of the spit or just petulant and stupid) and there have been much much worse stamps and there were probably much worse stamps in that season, just because an incident is overly highlighted doesn't make it the worst or horrendous, people and the media like a villain and Costa is currently that villain, but by no means is he any where close to as vicious and as dirty is he made out to be are you are falling for this.

Again I will reiterate look at your own player's and your own manager's down falls before you decide to chime in on another fanbase's especially when they will have a lot more first hand experience on the subject than you have and are more than capable of making their own minds up on the situation without the input of an uninformed and upset opposition fan who is trying to hide from the fact that his team just wasn't up to it again and is looking for something to blame.

We have a winner for best reply ::clap2:: very well put sir

Hindsight is still a wonderful thing, despite the FA regulatory commission’s blatant misuse of it, so bearing this in mind I think it’s time for all Chelsea fans to take a deep breath and consider a little retrospection of their own. Having done this myself over the last few days, I can vouch for it’s therapeutic effect and list below a few of my own reconsiderations just to get you all into my current thankful-for-small-mercies mood of quiet satisfaction…

1. Chelsea took three points from a ’must win’ game and, as far as I’m concerned, if it means Diego has to be portrayed as a mugger of old ladies in the high street in order to get them, then so be it.

2. Costa’s enforced absence from games against Walsall, Newcastle [in present form] and Southampton [ditto] is akin to him taking a timely and well deserved break when his services shouldn’t really be required, especially when his presence would have provided our opponents with the sort of pre-match distraction they would welcome, improving their appetite to make even more of a meal of us than Jason Burt and his sanctimonious colleagues have done of late.

3. Mike Dean, I’m so pleased to say, has been forced to sit on the FA’s naughty step for once and, irony of ironies, it is as a result of sending two Arsenal players off against us in controversial circumstances that cost the Media darlings the game - he might just as well have given a little skip of delight after each red card brandish, as he did in 2012 when he celebrated Spurs scoring against the arch enemy. Dean’s comeuppance is long overdue and we should all be grateful that retribution arrived after we had three points pocketed at the Gunner’s expense and not, as might have been feared, the other way around.

4. Arsene Wenger, thankfully, was given enough ropey thinking time on this issue to tie both himself and the FA in knots over levels of responsibility and grievance. It didn’t really take Jose to point out the Whinger’s penchant for the latter, whenever his side come a cropper against us, but we all couldn’t help but laugh when, no sooner had he ungraciously accepted that Gabriel deserved to be sent off for lashing out, the FA, in their very own and seemingly infinite wisdom, decreed the exact opposite by rescinding his punishment. You really couldn’t make this stuff up, but then again it appears they can, they did, and there is nothing anybody can do about it because the FA are the proverbial Law unto Themselves, and woe betide anybody who tries to belittle the importance [to them] of those capital letters.

5. Arsenal, bless those cotton socks and hairshirts they always like to play in against us, have failed to ’get it’ yet again. The point being that Diego-bashing is beyond their physical capabilities, but resorting to the penning of him, rather than broadsword-ing it out on the pitch, only serves to perpetuate the Wenger mythology - that there has never been a justifiable defeat suffered by his teams against ours. Taken to its illogical conclusion, as it always is with Arsene, this means [even] if it’s broke tactically or in terms of personnel, don’t fix it, just use the same old invisible cloak of controversy to hide the deficiencies. And long may this continue, because there is none so blind as those who simply don’t want to see, and Wenger’s been bat-like for the best part of a decade now.

6. Finally, a thought spared, not for the scratch card played, or the kick out made, but the kick up the backside Diego’s marauding gave to our cause this campaign. Boy did we need that win, come Hell, high water, Mike Dean, or FA regulatory commission. Quantifying that three-points-worth is difficult, as it’s almost immeasurable in terms of fostering belief and the siege mentality that’s served us so well in the past. So, Diego’s done the business when it has mattered most. Strikers within a team invariably do. Strikers like Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Duncan Ferguson, and most recently Kevin Davies. Of course, none of these players would have sat on this FA regulatory commission and pronounced judgement on Diego, for to have done so would have been the height of hypocrisy in view of each one’s crime sheet over the years. Okay, that may not have stopped Wrighty sticking a partisan boot in, but, with hindsight, it has to be a panel made up of individuals who wouldn’t know a handbag if they were hit by one, although we shall never know for sure, due to FA subterfuge - there might even be a new rule about it, who knows?

That said, with even more hindsight and one eye firmly fixed on the possibility of litigation, let me stress that  my reference to handbags should in no way be construed as having female connotation, nor was there any inference on my part that Heather Rabbatts was either in attendance or had poked her head around the door during the course of any discussions, thereby influencing this, or any other, disciplinary matter currently involving Chelsea Football Club. Phew, could have just dodged a bullet with that disclaimer - it’s a veritable minefield out there for Chelsea and the fans at the moment.

1) Diego Costa did not intentionally break anyone's leg, so your hypothetical example of an Arsenal player doing the same and it causing you - the moral authority on all things - to stop supporting him is utterly meaningless. I do, however, remember a lot of Arsenal fans commending Welbeck for the two-footed, attempted leg-breaker he tried on Fabregas last season. But I'm sure you tsk-tsk'd it, sadly shaking your head at the television screen, because you are a wonderful and pure human being.

2) Just because you and large sections of your fanbase are immensely fickle in support of your lead striker, doesn't mean we have to be the same with ours. We cheer him on because he gives it all on the pitch. No one's going, "YEAAAAH DIEGO! GENTLY SLAP HIM IN THE FACE MATE!!! DIEGO DIEGO DIEGO!!!" Most of us are, at best, lukewarm / mildly uncomfortable over his other antics, and you'd have known that if you'd actually read most of this thread instead of coming in firing shots with your cute little custom-made waterpistol. One day, after Arsene leaves following another 5 years of not winning the League and embarrassing himself and English football in the Champions League, you'll once again find a striker who isn't terrible and actually gives a sh*t, and you'll get it.

3) Your club tried to buy Luis Suarez. Talk about abandoning your morals.

100% correct mate, don't bother trying to get this lot to see it though. All fans are biased but consider the level of mental gymnastics it takes to justify the actions of men like mourinho and costa. I tried yesterday, in a very reasonable manner similar to yours, but quickly learned: its really not worth your time.

How about you pair of c**ts f**k off back to your own forum.

......................................some very good points, well made......................and then, BANG! Thermo-nuclear Arsenal fan demolisher!

3) Your club tried to buy Luis Suarez. Talk about abandoning your morals.

Take a bow, son, you done good today!  There is no possible comeback from any gooner to that that could possibly have any credibility.

We've got Champions League next week and he can play then...And somehow (although I can't be sure of course) I don't think he sees himself as a victim......

The favelas are fantastic. If you get the chance, visit.

The favelas are fantastic. If you get the chance, visit.

Parts of them for a visit. Parts of them for those who live there are hell on earth.

Parts of them for a visit. Parts of them for those who live there are hell on earth.

No they are not at all.

A lot of the families living there do so with plenty of finance.

There are obviously 'slum' elements like and town or city have but the people of the favelas were the most welcoming of any place I've ever been in my life.

Basically, favela residents do not pay city tax in Brazil as they're under danger and threat of landslides and danger from torrential rain coming from the hills. It saves the government a fortune though in making improvements to their living arrangements.

In effect, the government turns the favela residents into a 'lower class ' based on their status.

You will see a friend of mine attempting to sing and dance. Even that didn't make them aggressive. Lovely welcoming people.

The Church of the Nazarene is about their religion. Very religious people too.

The amount of MMA tents and BJJ tents within the area was remarkable. Maybe Costa was just an aggressive martial artist.

In all seriousness. Unless you have been there, you wouldn't understand how nice the people are. I was sh*tting myself prior to going and despite the living arrangements and obvious danger, it's all fabricated nonsense that they're dangerous.

You even see a sky dish in the photo I took.

Sorry for all the posts but I feel rather defensive towards the residents there for making my time there one of the best of my life.

So, this is slightly off-topic, but I was reading the "Steven Gerrard's Autobiography" thread on RedCafe because I felt like I needed a laugh, and guess what I found there? A morally upright Charlton fan, like our very own Gladstonian Liber, lecturing the United supporters on a United forum for making fun of one of their most hated rivals. He goes by "David Court" and here's his post:

Gerrard was a great player for Liverpool and I'm sad for him about 'the slip' and what might have been

I wouldn't have begrudged him winning the title that season

Some of you on here sadly are so partisan that it's clouded your judgment resorting instead to unfair knee jerk abuse and vitriol

Hardly edifying is it?

Give the man his due

So, are all Charlton fans sanctimonious twats or are David Court and Gladstonian Liber the same sad person? Or, and this might be it, do Arsenal and Liverpool fans (two very similar fanbases, one just 5-7 more years of failure and a few poetry lessons behind the other) use Charlton as a front to defend their teams on rival forums because the notion of a "Charlton Fan" is so alien that none of us would even consider that they're lying?

I'd say you're spot on. Previously I said it was a shame Charlton fans were cast in a bad light, quite a few around us.

Poor imposter it seems.

Patrick Collins, who wrote as much anti-CFC vitriol as any columnist, was a Charlton fan. I reckon it's him.

" I don't think any of his antics during the game were worth a red card and therefore maybe 3 games is harsh but he was definitely deserving of about 4 yellows."

You hit a player in the face, you get sent off. This isn't MMA. End of.

Agreed on the pathetic/childish/annoying. Don't agree that the antics are usually at a minimum, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since, as you stated in a earlier post, I don't watch him week in week out. He is not punished nearly enough imho, not even close. Not been sent off since 2012? Clear dive on saturday, no sniff of a card? In your own words he deserved 4 yellows, only one given? But, the same as before, I can only go on what I see, and you see much more if him than I do.

Nothing wrong with a bit of physicality, nothing at all. Swiping someone in the face, spitting, scratching, stomping, etc. are not the type of physicality you are referring to, I would hope, and these things should never be "admired" and absolutely should be frowned upon.

scratching someone is no more petulant than kick out and elbowing some in the back of the head is even worse

This is just competely wrong mate lol. With a kick or even an elbow you can always make the case of how much intention their was (jumping for headers, players catch accidental elbows all the time, accidental kicks happen even more often). An intentional scratch, which leaves nasty gashes is in a different league. Players shouldnt even have to worry about that happening, you get arrested for that IRL. That's why people are calling him disgusting.

Costas stamp on Skrtel was his most and only violent offense (as the rest really are really either just a bit disgusting in the case of the spit or just petulant and stupid) and there have been much much worse stamps and there were probably much worse stamps in that season

Your having a laugh now. His stomp on Emre Can? (Which was even worse that the Skrtel one btw). His two footer on T. Silva? (only got a yellow, clear red) These are just off the top of my head, you don't consider these violent offenses?

Again I will reiterate look at your own player's and your own manager's down falls before you decide to chime in on another fanbase's especially when they will have a lot more first hand experience on the subject than you have and are more than capable of making their own minds up on the situation without the input of an uninformed and upset opposition fan who is trying to hide from the fact that his team just wasn't up to it again and is looking for something to blame.

This is discussion about Costa, a Chelsea player, is it not? Arsenal has MANY problems of its own, trust me I have a much better understanding of that than you do. Was I upset at the result? Absolutely. Your right, we were not up for it, Wenger's failed yet again when coming up against Mourinho. I'm not "looking for something to blame". I'm genuinely interested in hearing what the general consensus among Chelsea fans is regarding Diego Costa, a player who is generally accepted as being a dirty cheat. Maybe he is, maybe he's not. I personally think he is. The statement quoted above is completely irrelevant to the discussion

though.

I think I addressed all of the main points you brought up but I had to rush through a bit, got Spurs just starting.

How inconsistent can you get?

Not sure whether mentioned before, but strangely enough Halsey reckoned that Gabriel should have been banned for elbowing Arnautovic a week earlier:

http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2015/09/14/15329752/arsenals-gabriel-faces-ban-and-naismith-escaped-red-card

Can't find a video but it was at around the 70th minute of the Arsenal - Stoke match.

If the FA follows the precedent set for Diego (which they won't), they may set a new record for retrospective bans.

Found it.

This needs to get spread about a bit. Like we did with that letter from the FA that helped get Hazard off.

And the comments from Arsenal fans on reddit make interesting reading.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/3kqv91/gabriel_and_arnautovic_gif_potato_qualiteee/

One of them calls this 'justiceporn' as it's apparently revenge against Stoke for past crimes. Someone has even posted a 'high frame rate' version hat can be enjoyed even more

Clear dive on saturday, no sniff of a card? In your own words he deserved 4 yellows, only one given? But, the same as before, I can only go on what I see, and you see much more if him than I do.

Well then you couldn't possibly know that Costa has been booked for diving when he should of gotten a penalty so manytimes that he should have a life long card that states he can't be cautioned for diving. Since his very first match in the BPL.

But regarding what you would have seen, I'll raise you 1 out of 4 yellows for Costa with 0 out of 2 clear penalties for Chelsea.

Diego can be a nasty piece but let's end this sanctimonious crap about how the defenders are justified targeting him with illegal moves or trying to wind him up because he has a reputation. If Diego is a nasty part of the game that should be removed then so too are the defenders trying to provoke that behaviour. You can't try and catalyze a reaction intentionally and then cry about how unfair the reaction was. That's being a poor loser because your own unsportsmanlike strategy back fired. Quite clearly, when Costa is in the kitchen Gabriel would be best suited to stay outside like a good little boy. Koscielny was wise enough to keep a cool head that he might have eventually succeed in getting Costa off but any viewing of the whole exchange sees Costa's over reaction for exactly what it was, a reaction to Koscienly grabbing him up like some like he was in some bad HR sexual harassment video from the 1950's.

Diego could a should a seen red but that doesn't deter from the results being a delicious irony of poor sportsmanship tactics blowing up in their face against a superior master of the dark arts. Especially when you consider the revenge for Costa in getting Gabriel sent off after the reverse happened in La Liga when Gabriel feigned injury after minimal contact. No angels in that fight, just some boys not very good at being naughty.
