Would much rather we kept Remy and then gave the 3rd spot to Solanke or Bamford.

However, I think the club are looking at this as a season long loan, and we'll use him as back up for when Costa isn't fully fit, or banned.

Jose has said that one of the three players he's going to bring in this season will be to replace Drogba, who was essentially our third striker.

If Falcao is fine being third choice for a season while we seriously look at Solanke and Bamford, then I'm okay with that.

If he's injured then we probably shouldn't be in for him.

If not though, he's a good replacement for Drogba isn't he? You say he might get back to his old form - that means being one of the best finishers in world football so there's the reward.

If Remy goes then Falcao will be his replacement rather than Drogba's. I don't like the idea of that at all.

It looks as if we might be replacing two strikers - Remy and Drogba.

Falcao might well be coming to replace Drogba, if Mourinho's comments are to be believed.

The question then is who's coming in to replace Remy?

Weirdly excited by this move even though it's a massive risk. But if it comes off.... Woah!

Apparently they want young players on loan too which could be great for them. One of those deals where all parties concerned could benefit.

Or it could go tits up.

It's done and dusted. It's a loan deal with an option for permanent transfer. RObbeasly.

Not quite done yet, but sounds close. I'm really excited about this, partly because I was gutted when he moved to United, but mainly because if he maintains his standard - he improves our strikeforce anyway - and if he moves up a notch then we'll absolutely walk the league.

Despite him scoring only 4 goals in 29 apps for United he has pretty impressive 4 goals in 3 apps for Colombia during this period.

Just watched this video, it was Colombias match back in march. He looked like his formerself, that runs, that finishing etc. He certainly hasn't lost his ability imo. I think it's like United system doesn't suited him at all. United play slow and boring possession football and I think that what hinders Falcao's performance.

He's the type of striker who excels in high pressing counter attacking football, in which he can make his runs behind the defender which is exactly opposite of what United play.

I'm not saying he'll bang 25-30 here next season, but I believe he'll do well. And if Jose believes he can make him recapture his best form I'm all up with him.

Modern advances mean it's not the death knell it once was. He has seemingly had a perfect recovery from the surgery and was back playing very quickly.

You guys then gave him a year to shake off the cobwebs (cheers :JC_doubleup: ) and hopefully he'll benefit.

You will know better than me though - the football you guys played. It seemed ponderous, a little slow at times and not a fantastic amount of pacy breaks especially counters. Is that what you got or am I wrong?

Agreed, the attacking football we played was atrocious. Rooney was our top scorer with 12 goals with the majority being penalties. No striker could have succeeded for us. It's tough to get a reflection of where he is at but we really didn't help his development except giving him match fitness and training which is quite beneficial for you as you've noted :/

I've got this nervous feeling he'll succeed and have a storming season for Chelsea. If anyone can give him confidence it's Jose, he's witnessed him at the peak of his powers and has certainly noted his strengths when playing against him.

He seems like a really nice guy and he truly did want to succeed at United, I'd never wish for a player to fail but I can't help but feel that this will be a move that'll be rubbed in the noses of our fans.

Best of luck to him.

Ugh! It's happening I guess, f**king great....

You and I tend to agree on a lot of things here Bobby, and my initial reaction to this was not good either.

However, having time to consider this now. If this is a loan deal, like United had, where we have an option to buy but do not HAVE to buy, then for 1 year it is pretty low risk, especially if we can keep Remy as well.

Give Lorc games out wide, Him, Hazard and one of Willian and Oscar. Keep him happy, in case we do need him up top if Costa gets inured and Falcao flops.

If we get him back to half the player he was at Porto and Atletico, we have a player that will get us 12 or more goals in the season.

If it fails we have Lorc to back up Costa, and probably Solanke waiting in youth ranks.

So could be worse. So long as we do not lose Lorc I am happy with this deal.

If we lose Loic due to this I think it's a massive mistake but I suppose a three of Costa, Remy and Falcao would be as good as the three we had last season.

I guess just this, rumours of Douglas Costa and Cech potentially moving to Arsenal it just all feels kind if a bummer.

Il be disappointed if we lose remy, but if our strike force is costa, remy, falcao, then il be pretty happy.

Certainly no worse than last season, with the potential to be as drogba/crespo/gudjohnson from 05/06.

An out of form striker will only ever regain that form if they play regularly, we can't afford to play someone in the hope that they might come good. If we could we should give youth a chance.

I will have a wager he will score more than 5 PL goals, anyone wanna punt??

Even Drogba scored 4 PL goals and he did f**k all when he played. I think he can get 10.

Surprised so many are dreading this transfer. Bad record at United but rest of his career has been stellar. Jose definitely wouldn't be after him if he was done and dusted. I honestly think he could hit double figures, even playing second fiddle to Costa. As long as we get him on loan and aren't paying silly wages, think this is good business.

Only worries are A) Does this upset Diego since Falcao almost always started CF ahead of him when they were at Atletico and B) Our 2 main strikers would have a history of serious injuries (assuming Remy leaves, which I think he will).

If you look at the price tag, loaning Falcao even for 1 year would go against everything we have been doing for the last couple of years.

If we get him for the £150k per week that Mourinho apparently won't go above, that works out at £7.8M for the year. There really aren't many proven goalscorers at the highest level you could sign for anywhere close to that - plus the fact they would be on silly wages on top of any transfer fee, plus the fact you'd have them tied down for at least 3 years. Worth the punt IMO. You'd make a fair chunk of that back in shirt sales as well.
