Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

Making them wait is probably our best option, I would honestly make them wait until the last day if we are to let him go there. Personallay though I'd keep him until his contracts up, if he went on a free there the year after then so be it but leaving them without another top class GK for another season would be better than them getting Cech now.

Spot on!

Do what benefits this club not what benefits Arsenal and Cech.

Whilst I can see your point to a certain degree, doesn't the fee which we are reportedly playing hardball on, benefit us in FFP times?

All this talk of Cech making the perrenially gutless, bottling Arsenal 10 points better next season, way off the mark imo.

I'd rather see us put a price on the table and not budge until it's paid - and it would be paid, rather than cut our nose off to spite our face somewhat.

They have not had a world class keeper in years, that's what Cech is. It's common sense that he will make them a far stronger side because he installs confidence in those in front of him like he has for years here.

Arsenal were much more effective last season and with Sanchez they have a truly special player, to dismiss them is pretty daft when they are obviously going to be stronger this season.

FFP is pretty irrelevant as it looks like being scrapped in any case, we don't NEED the money...We have just sealed a record sponsorship deal plus a record TV deal. We are financially very, very sound.

For £11-15 million I'd take keeping Cech even for 1 more year because making a direct title rival stronger and possibly hindering us is not worth that kind of fee which is nothing in terms of English transfer fees.

I'm with Jose on this one, he doesn't want him to go there and neither do I.

As crushing as it is to see Cech leave, I think he has to be allowed to do what he wants really. He's given us eleven years of absolutely immaculate service and has never been anything if not a true gent and a perfect role model for any young footballer. I still rate him as one of the best five goalkeepers in the world, there is no way he shouldn't be playing in the Champions League, even if it is for Arsenal. Then again, if he wants to play in Europe while remaining in London, what other choice does he really have? Would we really prefer it if he went to Tottenham?

I can understand why people are sore about it, but I think we just have to grin and bear this one in the knowledge that Cech will probably be tailing off his career in five years, while in theory Courtois will be at his peak and, at his current trajectory, the best goalkeeper in the world. Might also be worth remembering the absolute hell Arsenal fans must have gone through this season watching Fabregas win the title at a canter in his first season in a Chelsea shirt after failing miserably to do so at Arsenal.

It's like trading in your loyal and beautiful missus who has been nothing but amazing to you for over a decade for a younger, sleeker model, and then acting like you're hard done by after she starts dating the w**ker with the haircut and the sh*t tattoos from across the road.

It seems to be done deal unless someone checked to Lauren's Twitter account and posted this:

"Lauren Etame Mayer ?@Lauren12arsenal

#All the best to Cech. Long time without stability in that position and another great gooner move to get the Premier League.

9:56 AM - 20 Jun 2015"

I don't see how a retired Arsenal player tweeting that is confirmation of a done deal.

Remember,Arsenal got £24m for RVP who had 1 year left on his contract. We won't get that figure for him as only strikers go for that price but it showed that Arsenal flogged RVP for a VERY good price.

Pleased to see rumours being around 14m but I still think we should push for a swap deal.

Remember also that we are due to play them in the Community Shield in early August. I highly doubt a deal will be done before then. Or if not, a gentlemans agreement for him not to play.

That said, I wouldn't put anything past wenger.

JT

There’s talk of Arsenal signing Petr Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season,”

“Petr was an unbelievable professional last year. When you get left out of the team it can be hard to accept but, when he came in [to the side], he was exceptional.

“He deserves a lot of credit for that. We understand he wants to play first-team football but nobody wants to see him leave the club.

“He’s going to be sorely missed and will improve any side he goes to.”

I think Cech has it in his mindset that his family comes first. He is obviously settled in London and so is his family. While it's unfortunate that he is probably going to move to Arsenal he has my full backing. At the end of the day family is more important than football and rivalries

Lets not forget as well, that the lower the fee for Cech, then the more Arsenal have to spend strengthening the rest of the team!

Yup.

Also clearly JT also see's Cech being a big difference to Arsenal which is not going to be good for us.

I think this will piss Jose off big time.

I think most people are now of the same opinion, we don't want Cech to leave, we understand why Arsenal is his preferred move due to location and level, we now want the best deal possible and don't believe £10m is fair.

And Wenger is a c**t !

Mourinho would be seething at this and rightly so. Last time it was the purchase of shevchenko now it will be the sale of Cech.

Knew all this talk of staying 10 years and building a dynasty was too good to be true. He will be off to United at the next available opportunity.

But hey, we wont mind since he loves england and it will too much of an inconvenience for him and his family to move away.

I actually think it was Gallas going Arsenal that bothered Jose mostly in 2006.

That last sentence...is there an age at which one recognises the simplicity of such a sentiment? When responsibilities to something bigger than just yourself become a real consideration? Where your wife's Thursday coffee morning or your sons friend Jacks birthday party in a months times are things that you have to factor into life decisions?

I think there's probably a clear dividing line on this issue that is probably related to age and things like empathy.

And on the same page I know of dozens of people who work out of town because their best employment prospects were in another city yet didn't want to up root their family. They typically earn in a year what Cech does in a week too. They consider the money too good to pass up.

Seems like it's all going Cech's way with no regards to the club. Id tell Cech that if he wants to stay in London while playing for a top side, he either renew his contract, get Arsenal to pay a proper fee, or he can ride out his last year.

What does the club owe Cech that he doesn't owe us fans or the club back? Honestly struggling to think of any other player who got this level of consideration from their club when asking a move.

We want two great goalkeepers to make us competitive, he wants to stay in London playing big club first team football. I'd tell him he gets what he wants after next seaso if he gives us what we wants this upcoming season, otherwise both sides should compromise.

Edit: simply put, I'd tell Cech he has a choice between looking out for what's best for his family or what's best for his career,a situation about 90% of us will have to face without all the extra trappings and rewards Cech's got through his career. Sorry if I seem like I lack empathy, I struggle to see where I should feel sorry for Cech.

But according to the reports of a gentlemans agreements, that was what we said to him last summer. We got a year out of him while we blooded Courtois and he spent a year on the bench. Now we're letting him go where he wants so long as we get a fair few for a 33 year old keeper in the last year of his contract. The reason he's getting this consideration is because of who he is and the connection that he has to this club. Feel like I've had to express that sentiment about a hundred times when I didn't think I'd have to explain it once to a Chelsea supporter.

I think you're jumping the gun a bit. Mourinho isn't going anywhere.

Give me a break with this bollocks mate.

Are you suggesting that Cech will have signed for fecking milwall if arsenal job wasnt available. All for jacks fecking b'day. Tell you what, he would feck off to paris before we could correct the spelling from check to cech.

Well the club keep pissing him off by making his job difficult and he surely will.
