Can Pardew and Palace condemn Newcastle to relegation? Pardew took a ton of sh*t from some Newcastle fans and you get the sense that he wouldn't mind showing them how wrong they were.

is it just me or do most of these promising young players at arsenal just fade into mediocrity under wenger

His handling if youth players is an absolute myth. Look at the young in his team now, all bought in, none have progressed in any significant way, most have gone backwards. Walcott, Chamberlain, Ramsey....erm that's in. Gibbs rarely plays now, Wilshire stopped progressing years ago. Some kid pops up every so often, has a few good months, disappears.

I don't think that's true really. You have to bear in mind that regardless of how good a manager is at integrating young players or how good a youth coaching setup is, the vast majority of them aren't going to be good enough to play at the level at which Arsenal compete. That's true of Arsenal, it's true of Man Utd, it's true of us, and it's even true of Barcelona. In addition to that, other than the rare freak cases like Messi, it's near impossible to predict to what extent any player is going to live up to their potential - looking at any list of 'best youth players' from a few years ago will tell you that.

Even to produce a player of the quality of, say, Mikel Arteta, Martin Montoya, or Giovanni dos Santos is still a huge achievement. Even we have produced quite a few top-flight standard players, despite them ultimately making their mark as professionals at a different side: Huth and Bruma will be in the Champions League next season; Bertrand, Aké, Borini, van Aanholt and Jack Cork are all established top-flight players. Despite the criticism levelled at us (even from our own fanbase) for not establishing youth players in our own first XI, it's clear that some progress is being made.

Under Wenger dozens of players of that calibre have come through. Overall he has been hugely successful, and that's without even considering the occasional world-class player for whom he has been responsible - look at the extent to which Ashley Cole and Cesc Fabregas grew as players under Wenger. In addition, Hector Bellerin is showing every sign of becoming a top-level full-back. Obviously Wenger has made many mistakes in his time, and I have enjoyed our rivalry with Arsenal under his management, but I don't like the disrespect he has been receiving of late (or at least that which isn't born out of rivalrous taunting), nor do I like the idea that history is being rewritten to portray him as a stubborn old fool who has clung onto past achievements for too long; he is a brilliant manager who is fundamental to the constitution of the club. When he does eventually leave, Arsenal will be all the weaker for it.

Agreed.

If I was being super critical, I think his development of English youth in particular has been slightly disappointing although having said that most of them are still at a pretty high level and some of them have to share the fair bit of the blame as to why they have stalled/not progressed as hoped despite being given so many chances.

Still way better than us  That says more about us than about them.

Agreed.

True, although for a couple of them (I would say Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain) I think you can justifiably point to injuries as a reason for stalled progress.

Can't believe I'll be rooting for QPR on Monday. Don't want to see Dyche and Barnes back in the top flight though.

Brighton would be great to see promoted. 3 south coast teams in the PL.

Hopefully Middlesbrough go up too.

Fox Sports have the Newcastle - Palace game on.

What a borefest. Can't believe they didn't go for Everton or West Ham.

At this stage of the season it's good to be watching a game that both teams need points from, as good as a six pointer because Palace not mathematically safe yet. But I agree it's a borefest. C'mon Palace.

I didn't realize Palace aren't safe yet. Not really a big chance of them going down though.

I'd rather watch WHU in their battle for top 4 than this.

lolololol

In fairness to him, their fans are awful. I bet the people at the club, from the players to the match day stewards, secretly can't stand the fans.

There was an experiment by a classroom last year where they wrote to all the Premier League clubs asking the same set of questions. Arsenal and Stoke had the best responses. They gave personal answers to the specific questions, sent pictures of players, etc. (We completely ignored the kids!)

It's clear that the Arsenal club staff genuinely try to make a positive impression and engage with potential fans. Too bad their existing fans ruin all their efforts.

Stoke currently beating Sunderland. Good for Norwich but for them to take advantage of that, they'll need to win or draw at the Emirates.

Villa just can't get anything to go right for them this season. 2-1 up, away from home, and then they concede 2 goals in injury time to lose the game.
