John Stones

Good post as usual Rick. I'm not sure how this will now play out, can't believe Stones won't go but I can see Martinez leaving over this. It has struck me that the soap opera stuff is actually more interesting than the game itself, but that may just apply to following EFC. To those on here attacking Martinez, I think he is just doing his job and if it was your club you'd probably want your manager to do the same, I am very much on the fence with him, but I like the way he is standing up for us and himself over this, even if it does has a whiff of King Canute.

tbh its stupid for us to pay 40m for him as it would be stupid for Everton to not sell him, he is only going to be less expensive next summer when people realise he's Gary Cahill's 2nd coming and £30m is too expensive for a barely proven error prone player who wants too leave, I think we play hard ball now and wait for Everton to come to us.

You had to be fair though, even if Everton privatly are now willing to sell Stones how does it help their position if Martinez comes out and says anything else?

Accept the request? Weakens Everton's position. Say they will sell at the right place? Weakens them again.

All he can do is come out and say what he said, whether Everton are willing to sell or not.

Martinez tonight; "I think that the authorities need to look at what has gone on because it has become a bit of a circus."

And who made it the circus that it is? The media, John Stones agent, and last but not least by any means: Roberto f**king Martinez.

Throughout this entire saga he's been moaning and bitching, acting as if Chelsea as a club have no right to bid for an Everton player. He whines and he moans about the transfer window encroaching into the start of the season, while Everton continue to put their own bids on during the same period. The sanctimonious hypocrisy beggars belief. All along he's been stirring things up, acting the victim casting aspersion on the behaviour of ourselves as a club, doing his worst to imply that charges need to be brought against the club for the sheer temerity of what? Bidding for an Everton player during the transfer window.

To all the Eveton fans on this site, if you want to know why some of us here are ever so slightly annoyed at Everton, then look no further than your sanctimonious f**king twat of a manager.

It 'could' still happen but how does martinez justify it then. Any move now has to be seen as stones or board to blame.

Mirror claim talks are underway so they're chatting rubbish or martinez is unaware

Everton aren't going to be challenging for anything this year and it would be ridiculous to think so; stones wanta to better himself and progress his career and it's being stunted bu not allowing him the chance to leave. What is there for stones at everton? He is not going to win anything and will just be stuck competing for mediocrity. He wants to go so allow him his wish ffs. If hazard was to hand in a transfer request tomorrow, i would feel the exact same way. If a player wants to leave to go to a bigger club, then allow them that and it doesn't leave any bad blood between clubs and players.

Everton are short of centre backs and defenders on a general level too with Baines injured for the next few months. With so little time left in the window, selling Stones only creates more short term problems than it solves. As much as I'd like Stones, I can't fault their stance at all here. If they force him to stay, they know that he'll re-focus after the window given that the Euros are coming up. After that, there will be more clubs going for him (provided he has a good season) and then the price goes up even more. Perfectly justifiable rationale, albeit frustrating as a Chelsea fan.

This will simply go down to how much we are willing to pay....and if Everton continue to dig their heels in we won't be back...ever.  We will simply move on and by a proven quality CB if not this window then certainly next.  Personally I wouldn't worry too much, simply share the CB defensive duties between Cahill, Ivan and JT, leaving Baba and Dave at LB and RB respectively.

Hi Guys not posted on here in a while.... Martinez wants Stones as our future along with Barkley  etc etc  I am not on here to inflame but add what I think as a home an away football supporter thinks (Everton being my club. Why err coz Im from Liverpool and my dad was a blue and  his was a blue)..We have no money fact.. the only way we can even remotely compete is to be clever to get home grown players and get up and coming youth from other clubs. In Stones we have a diamond almost out the rough. Martinez has come out tonight and said hes not for sale...hes been badly advised as he has taken on a new agent yada yada.... Ive just come back from the match all buoyed up with a win and his words on SKY were quite cool I thought ....well as a everton fan and a footy fan I truly hope his words win.........money doesn't always win...we will see....... anyways whatever happens I hope you have a great season like season and beat the crap ouuta the red shi**......

"vital part of our future, not at all for sale"

As if they have a chance of holding onto him for a few more years. Nevermind the transfer request. Theyre banking on him changing his mind if theyre making comments like that

All well and good, but you're missing the point.

I can well understand Everton or any other club fighting tooth and nail to hang on to their prized assets. Refusing to sell, or at least making it as difficult as possible for any potential buyer, and selling for the highest possible amount, even if that amount is well over the odds, all perfectly understandable, perfectly acceptable.

What I'm objecting to, purely and simply is Martinez repeatedly implying that action needs to be taken against Chelsea for daring to put in a bid on your prized asset. Really that's all we've done. And yet Martinez is outraged. Maybe it's a diversion, maybe Everton have intended to sell Stones all along, but Martinez and the Everton board are attempting to cast Chelsea as the villain of the piece (along with Stones if he does eventually leave). This is conjecture. All I know is what I hear Martinez say. If he'd restricted himself to saying that Stones is not for sale at any price, then fair enough, But when he insists on slippng in some snide remark about "the way some clubs do their business", "the authorities need to take action" and all the rest of it, then whichever way you look at it, Martinez is bang out of order.

That's my point,.

So if we offer you hypothetically 80mill for Stones Martinez to save face wouldn't sell him.....ffs Kenwright will bite our f**king hand off.....if you honestly believe that money doesn't work then you are truly deluded.  Just like if Real came in for Hazard for 200mill, CFC would sell him in a heartbeat..

And yet you were happy to buy him off Barnsley.

Yes You are right ..that's transfers.... In this case it has been openly discussed in the media on the radio on Sky at every opportunity its blatant tapping up forced down our throats(In our case being Everton fans) Not here to chastise you...you have millions and we have zero....we will just have to see what happens...

You wont offer that though...you offered err 20m then 25m come on ...luiz went for 50m ? I as a evertonian don't want him to go ... we will see... kenwright will be getting whats coming to him shortly ....

Its money money that talks....in this case it just might not..

Tapping up lol

Get a grip pal

So it's our fault that the media report it?  Is it our fault that because it's Chelsea it's more newsworthy?  Sorry that when Everton buy a player from Barnsley the media aren't really interested but it doesn't change the fact that you bought him from them and we want to buy him from you.Tapping up?  FFS get real.

Any player requesting to leave my club is only too welcome to pass through the exit door.

A lot of clubs can't tell their arse from their elbow when it comes to how their actions portray them and think that selling a star player is a sign of weakness and small-time.

Let me tell you, nothing screams weak and small-time like desperately trying to cling on to a player that wants to be elsewhere.

If I was Stones, I would just play like sh*t until they are forced to sell or bench me.

I wouldn't want to sign a player who acted anything like this, gladly I think Stones is nothing less than a class act and wouldn't even dream of doing anything so unprofessional and frankly ridiculous.
