John Stones

Featured Replies

To be honest, I think we will be made look stupid if we blow all our money on him, then have him sit on the bench for 1/2 of the time. Despite concede 2 on the weekend, I still believe our problem is on the other end of the field. He won't sign a new contract if he's keen to move, so we will pretty much be bidding the same amount of money 12 months later.

Problem is we might have more competition next year.

He's such a cry baby, although I do kind of agree with him in that I feel the window should close before the season starts which he in a roundabout way is saying.

I get the argument for saying that the transfer window can be distracting for players but if it was only open when the season was not in progress you would firstly need to abolish the January transfer window all together.

Would clubs be comfortable going into a new season knowing they have no opportunities to bring in reinforcements during a season? A couple of hefty injuries and clubs with smaller squads are screwed.

Then you have the issue that not all leagues start at the same time... So does the window open at different times depending on which country you are based in.

Would for example clubs in Italy be unable to approach a club in England if the English window is shut but the Italian one is still open?

Logistically you're never going to please everyone. You just have to suck it up and accept that it's part of the game.

Let's just give up on this one. I don't want us paying obscene money.

To replace Terry and with an Englishman is going to take this kind of money in any case.

Shaw went for a big price last season so that's the market we are in just now.

I would like to sign him even if it takes 34m. Our most successful teams have always had an english core jt, lamps, cole, cole. We are low on quality english players.

Just pay up. Mangala cost 40?

cry baby is one term to use, hypocrite is another...ffs, he loaned lukaku from us right on the deadline two years ago....lost a lot of respect for the guy...he keeps going on about chelsea talking about stones etc, yet he is doing more talking about it than anybody!

What a boring story this is becoming. Either make a serious move and buy him or just stop with these nonsense bids.

it's called negotiating and if you don't think bids of £20m, £26m and £30m isn't making a serious move for a 21-year-old, I don't know what you expect the club to do

You need 2 parties to have a negotiation. If one party says no from the start, it's not a negotiation. We haven't even made the bid and it's already turned down. Either they are open to selling him and they have a price or they don't want to sell him at all. It seems to me that they aren't gonna sell him at all. So unless we are gonna go ridiculous and pay 35m£ or something, he isn't coming.

If they truly had said no then we wouldn't have gone back took time and again. I imagine it was more like "no, not unless you offer us a massive fee" so we've tentatively upped our offer and we're obviously being encouraged.

It's a weird situation though, you aren't desperate for him and they don't really want to sell. So there isn't leverage one way or another. The player doesn't seem to want to be involved but we've clearly had an inclination that he'd be happy to move. It's almost a stalemate but the ball is in our court.

I still think if we have to pay £34mill then we should. We can get 10yrs service out of him hopefully. It'll be a good deal in the long run

lost count of how many clubs have said they're not going to sell and end up selling...happens all the time...everton are just trying to get as much money as they can

I don't care what clubs say in public. As long as there's no deal they will probably sat whatever they want. What matters is how they act behind the scenes. If we have to make 3 bids just to get them to sit around the table and name their price, it shows that they don't want to sell and as a result, we'll have to pay silly money to make them reconsider.

If they wanted to negotiate, all these stories about bids turned down wouldn't have been in the media because we would've been sitting at the table with them, dishing out a deal.

do you really think chelsea would keep bidding if they didn't think they had any chance at all?

Funny enough an agent on talksport while back said we would only have made a second bid knowing there was a willing from Stones to join

There is no such thing as not for sale in football. You can reject every bid you want, but eventually someone will pay a price which makes you accept.  The price on this occasion is reportedly £34m.  I would expect a basic bid of £30m to be rejected though, which is why i think we should stick some add ons in, making it up to 34,  But the add ons should be the type which Everton know they are going to receive for sure

Like us winning the EPL

If we're willing to end up spending over 30 million pounds on Stones, why not just go all out and sign Varane?

Stones is English and has already played in the PL. Real don't seem to want to sell Varane either and unlike Everton they have plenty of cash in the bank.

You may be right but say we offer 45 million pounds (63 million euros) for Varane. I think Real might consider it.

If we're going to end up paying 35+ million pounds for Stones I think it would be worth a try spending an extra 10-15 million for Varane, who in my opinion is a far better defender than Stones and would slot right in to the first team.

An extra £10-15 mil is a hell of a lot of money though. I think Varane is probably the best young CB around at the moment but I don't see Real selling him for any price at least not unless they have their eyes on a huge signing like Hazard.
