I can see why we want him. In patches he shows his potential, but he also has mistakes in his game, which is to be expected at his age. Under a better coach and working with top players i think he can be made into a quality cb.

Stones and Everton were both awful today. I wouldn't read too much into that performance other than our manager only has one way of playing, and people have figured it out ages ago.

Martinez is one of those managers who seems to make football more complicated than it is, thats my view anyway.

Stones performance reminded me of lescotts a few years ago when he was linked with city at the start of the season. He was sold the week after.

didn't martinez want to get everton playing spanish style (whatever that means) of football? i heard and read that ages ago, but good to hear it's going well...

He does. He sees himself as the next Guardiola yet all he ever does is make clubs worse. Constantly in a relegation dogfight and saved by a few moments of magic from specific players near the end of the season.

He has spent a fair amount at Everton and there's been no progression. The guy is a clueless moron without a plan B approach. I'd be disgusted with a manager like that.

The reason I'm a fan of Zouma starting with JT and not Gaz is 2 slow CB is a gift for anyone running down of their shoulders, and now with Ivans legs gone, it's just too easy for teams to get at us, JT's reading and positioning with a fast pairing, Azpi at right back and a new LB hopefully Rahman and we are back on track, Matic has been getting out CB's out of jail all last season, when he doesn't..Tottenham away, it's time for a change

harry kane gave him kittens, and kane is hardly a dribbling speedster. unless jose replaces him at RB next week, watch sterling turn him inside out too. he isn't much good at defending, and he's a lot worse at going forward. he scores goals for us, sure, but as a serious full back he lets us down big time.

But he had won 2 league titles, a champions league, Europa league, multiple FA cups, league cups. Not bad for a meh defender..

I worry about Ivan at RB, sure he's a good threat on goal but his pace is often exposed at fullback. I honestly think he'd be better at CB.

Sure he's been great at RB but we have to remember he's getting on.

If Montero is just too good then why doesn't he do this week in week out? I get your point that he looked a world-beater but most often or not, full backs in this league deal him pretty comfortably as they're usually also quick.

Fine with me, pay it. At 21-years-old, we could arguably have John Stones at the club for around 15 years. Not bad for a £34m investment.

I don't think Cahill is slow and I'm not really sure why it seems to be a common view. Zouma is faster but Cahill is no slouch either.
