Exactly, hence why we need Stones. The beginning of the end may be nigh for JT and Cahill simply isn't a world class option in my eyes. We aspire to be a world class team then we need world class players or world class potential players in the starting XI.

Just noticed this reply - Hazard may be under performing by his standard, but he's still been one of our better players.

Costa - debateable, I don't think he's looked sharp enough to include him in that list. Agree with Begovic and Courtois, but that's a given, it's half of our outfielders thats here the concern lies.

Starting to sound like Arsenal fans, f**k 'istory I want to watch live football not re-runs 

I'm not too worried over the title. 2 games down. I think we had a period last term where we lost and drew back to back just happened early now.

Defence needing surgery? Too slow now?

Costa in their centre half's pockets again, just like in this fixture last year. He's a good finisher but his first touch and pass let him down so many times. The ball just won't stick when someone plays it into his feet with any kind of pace, and he has a tendency to give away possession on what should be simple passes. He's still our best striker but I would have taken him off in this game before the end, it just wasn't working. Every time he got the ball his touch let him down and he would be barged off the ball before looking straight to the ref for a free-kick.

 

Ivanovic has to be dropped for West Brom assuming the Rahman transfer is a done deal. Azpi on the right, Rahman on the left, with Terry and Zouma in the middle for me. I hope we dish out the money for Stones too, and he would get in that defensive line-up ahead of Zouma for me.

We only started creating something once Zouma came on, with JT on the pitch we have to sit very deep to protect him. We do have an ageing backline and the easiest way to expose that is pacy wingers and a mobile forward.

Fabregas was awful

I agree. It's two games in and way too early to draw any firm conclusions imo. CFC have had a disrupted week and the team doesn't seem settled/fluid but all teams need more games under their belt until trends are clear.*

Think we need to get ourselves back in to the top 4 first. Jose warned that you can go from first to fifth just like that and he may not have been kidding. 

 

Make sure we are in that top 4 again and then, if we are close to City of whoever is leading, try and push them.

Possibly, I don't think the midfield is working hard enough in front of them though which doesn't help.

Those of you wishing for signings are deluding your selves. Nothing will happen. Baba will sign, Stones will probably sign but that'll be it. I doubt anyone else is coming. 

Are our main guys simply just too tired? Hazard doesn't fly like usually does, Fabs passing bad, Costa not very sharp. How do you get that back is the big question.

 

I thought Hazard had a good game to be honest. He did fly past City players a number of times and burst into spaces a number of times but CIty did a good job of suffocating those spaces relatively quickly. We could have done with Oscar today to give Hazard a hand in the middle; Fabregas still isn't up to it, Ramires is more of an athlete than a footballer, and Willian was pretty quiet. Sadly Oscar is treated as a luxury player anyway and wouldn't have played even if fit.

The only reasonable solution with the players we have is to drop the holy cows to the bench or from the team all together (Terry, Ivanovic, Willian, Ramires, maybe even Costa) and give the new guys a runout. My team for the next game:

 

Begovic

Azpi - Cahill - Zouma - Baba

Matic - Fabregas (or Mikel)

Moses - Hazard - Kennedy

Remy (or Traore)

 

BENCH: Blackman, Terry, Ivanovic, Loftus Cheek, Costa, Traore (or Remy), Mikel, Willian

Well that was absolute sh*te, City totally dominated. Whoever made the decision to start pre season late and not bring in a few quality players has really f**ked up in my opinion. Now we are playing catch up and we have players who's fitness levels are clearly low and are now going to be suffering with confidence issues on the field. We look absolutely nothing like the champions of last season. It may be very VERY early days but that was shockingly poor from us today.

 

Ivanovic was awful at RB again, Fabregas doesn't look interested and is being embarassed by the opposition right now. Costa's touch has been awful, Hazard isn't explosive, and we letting teams create chance after chance against us.

 

Terrible start to the season.
