Still a young guy so still time is on his side to improve but he's never looked Chelsea quality to be honest. With the way Conte seems to play his system full backs stay compact and defend well rather than being adventurous going forward.

Modern day full backs are just as important going forward as they are defensively. Particularly when teams defend deep and in numbers.

Fixes the leftback problem and keeps Costa happy in one fell swoop. Dave moves across to RB. Koulibaly signs as well = all sorted at the back  :)

Baba is so promising why were letting him go out is beyond me when we signed him he was 1 of the best lb in Germany and looking at our squad he's the best option we have.

Of course but I would rather have Baba at left back who has the potential to improve and move Dave to his right position of RB than Ivanovic anywhere near the first team.

It's a pretty disappointing move. If he is out on loan to gain experience, he should have linked up with an EPL club. He already proved he's a good LB in Germany, what's the point of doing that again? Unless we have another LB lined up, it's going to be another frustrating season watching Azpi step in on his right foot every game.

Get a LB, move Dave to the right and move Ivan in the middle (unless Zouma returns)....bin Cahill, too slow and can't read the game.  Whatever Conte does, please do not put Ivan at RB he is going to get skinned time and time again this year.  Full backs and wingers are getting faster, meanwhile we have 3 of the back 4 getting on in years and the legs are going.  The game is changing each season, this year will be increasingly about speed and counterattacks, we are OK I think going forward but the defence does cause me to worry somewhat. 

Is a left-footed LB who can defend too much to ask... How did we manage to let go of both Luis and Bertrand to leave us in this mess?

Haven't seen us linked with any LBs (or CBs for that matter). This is the weakest position in the squad and needs to be sorted asap.

 

Sandro, Layun, Ansaldi, Hector, Sidibe, Rodriguez, Ghoulam, even Tremoulinas, Coentrao, Pereira, Willems, Denisov, Schmelzer, all have had relatively good seasons/are established LBs. Surely one would be open to a switch to play under Conte alongside a very talented squad.

Baba wasn't promising, he had one good season in Germany but was nowhere near ready for a top English team. As for Van Aanholt being top 5 in the league, please just stop.

He was good at RB but no where near the world class form he has hit at LB. When moved back to RB this season he looked a shadow of himself.

I agree with this but last season was (hopefully) an anomaly for the majority of the squad.  I'm positive he could play just as well on the right.

I think it can work to your advantage having a right footer in the LB spot, but you do need someone with a left foot on the wing somehwere.  For all of Baba's flaws, he has a wicked left foot cross.

I wouldn't be opposed to Lichtsteiner for a season or two with Dave on the Left.

No way the club will gamble on an untried full-back and though he is the same age as Ivan he is a much more natural fullback and a fitness machine.

You have no idea how much Athletico will want for Luis right now.

Honestly I saw him struggled in some matches he played at RB for us last season.

You want to get rid of Cahill because he's slow and replace him with.... Ivanovic? Surely you're kidding?

Ivan has been brilliant for us over the years but he's finished at this level for me as sad as that is to say.

It happened all last year getting shredded & pre season hasn't been great for him either.

We need a new LB, put Azpi back where he naturally plays & get a new CB to pair with Zouma when fit or JT because IMO he's still the best CB we have.

That tends to happen if you haven't played the position in 2 or 3 years to be fair.
