72 Point target

Featured Replies

I think realistically, staving off relegation should be the priority.

Jose should attempt to lose a few games in the CL and finish 3rd in the group so we enter the Europa League. It will be our only way to qualify for the CL next season.

Deliberately losing games for an ulterior motive is a disgrace IMO.

MU
Watford(a), Leicester(a), West ham(h), Bournemouth(a), Norwich (h), Stoke(a), Chelsea(h), Swansea(h), Newcastle(a), Liverpool(a), Southampton (h), Stoke(h), Chelsea(a), Sunderland(a), Arsenal(h), Watford(h), West brom(a), Crystal Palace(h), Man city(a), Everton(h), Tottenham(a), Aston villa(h), West ham (a), Leicester(h), Norwich(a), Bournemouth(h).
17 wins, 6 draws, 3 loses  57 points +24= 81 poimts assuming no real slip ups

15 wins, 7 draws, 4 loses   52 +21 = 73 points again assuming no real slip ups and no Europa league syndrome

19 wins, 4 draws, 3 loses   61+17=78 points again assuming no slip ups and no Europa league syndrome as well as quickly getting to grips with Klopps methodology.

I personally think 72 points will be more than enough to qualify but 61 points in 26 games will be a tough ask and I personally think winning the Champions league is more likely.

Ooh that's a tough call to make, looking at our remaining league fixtures, and then thinking about Bayern, Barca, RM, even City in the CL we would have next to no chance atm the way we are playing.

Interesting read but given our woeful form they are optimistic predictions. Those next 6 games, we need to win them all. 4 home games we should win, whether we are top of the league or near the bottom, the two away are against a Spurs side that hit 5 past us and an in form foxes team.

Win those 6, beating two good sides away in the process and we get our confidence back.

Sadly though, given our form, I think it is more realistic to predict a draw with Norwich, defeat to Spurs, win against Bournemouth, defeat to or draw with Sunderland, defeat to Leicester and win against Watford.

At least we'll be fresh in the latter stages of the champions league this time, our players have barely got above a jog so far this year

Pig flew when we won the CL but yeah it isn't very likely, we would need title winning form to do it, However I'm not sure whether 72 points will be needed for 4th and I reckon it will be lower as there is not a huge difference between teams at the top and teams at the bottom Leicester are a prime example of this. It is still going to be a mighty task though and I do believe winning the CL again is still the most (un) likely way for us to qualify for the CL next season.

So here we are 12 games into the season and only 11 points, needing another possible 60.8 points for a chance of fourth place and champ league again next season.

Games to come:

HOME NORWICH CITY

AWAY TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

HOME BOURNEMOUTH

AWAY LEICESTER CITY

HOME SUNDERLAND

HOME WATFORD

*AWAY MANCHESTER UNITED

AWAY CRYSTAL PALACE

HOME WEST BROM

*HOME EVERTON

AWAY ARSENAL

AWAY WATFORD

HOME MANCHESTER UNITED

HOME NEWCASTLE UNITED

*AWAY SOUTHAMPTON

AWAY NORWICH CITY

HOME STOKE CITY

*AWAY LIVERPOOL

HOME WEST HAM UNITED

AWAY ASTON VILLA

AWAY SWANSEA

HOME MANCHESTER CITY

AWAY BOURNEMOUTH

HOME TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

AWAY SUNDERLAND

HOME LEICESTER CITY

19 wins = 57pts

*4 draws = 4pts

3 defeats

= possible 61pts to come

That gives us a total of 72 points for the season.

On schedule for fourth, beat spuds and go ahead of schedule.

Yesterday showed how unpredictable the league is. Points will be lower. I heard the average you can lose is 7 games to get 4th. Arsenal did it one year losing 9 games.

Basically we cant afford to lose any more games until the end of the season. Tough ask.

Hopefully this team will peak heading towards the end of the season.

Nice to keep the faith and feel we can still get top 4 but although lots of sides are dropping points, I can't see City, Arsenal & utd slipping out of the top 4 and the way Spurs and Liverpool are both going, they have to be favourites for 4th spot. Spurs 3-0 up against the Spammers now and looking comfortable. We'll need to be at

our best next week to get a result against that lot.

On schedule for fourth, beat spuds and go ahead of schedule.

Play as well as we did yesterday we can win there. Finish as poorly as we did yesterday we will lose there.

Points totals will be so much lower this year. It's been such a strange seaosn, no team looks like they are capable of going on a 6-7 game winning streak. Even City who are doing their usual trick of looking unbeatable for a few games, then losing/being demolished by an inferior team.

If we can get our act together top 4 is definitely possible. BUT we've also got to accept there will probably be a few more unexpected defeats. Got to do our usual trick under Jose of getting results against the teams competing around us

That gives us a total of 68 points for the season. Arsenal got fourth place in 2011 with 68 points, so It isn't impossible.

All these figures mean nothing unless the team can turn it around, but It's not too late.

Ahead of Schedule then, come on the Blues.

If we keep this incline up and with everyone seemingly dropping points left right and centre, it could just happen and pigs really could fly.

40 points should be the target at the moment

Yes, we get it. You have no faith in the squad and manager, and you think relegation is a definite possibility.

Have you actually seen the table or the performances so far this season? We're nearly half way through the season and only a few points above the relegation zone. of course it's a possibility.

I do think top 4 is well achievable but we will need reinforcements on Jan first. Im happy with a point today but the fact we went to spuds as last seasons all dominating champions happy for a point speaks volumes for where we are mentally rehab going well but to easy to see a set back right now

I think spurs and liverpool will both finish ahead of us. We needed to start the ball rolling with a win against Liverpool. Now I think it's too big of a task.

On the plus side we have a squad that is full of talent. I think we can still attract players that will have us challenging for the title again next year.

We certainly won't have to spend man United money to get back to being competitive.

I actually don't think if we were to miss out on the champions league and having to to play in the Europa league will be that bad for us next season. It would certainly give a platform for a few of our youngsters to perform, look at what happened at Tottenham and a certain Harry Kane last season. Obviously I would prefer if we made it back to the Champions league but if we were to miss out there is always a bright side.
