November 23, 201510 yr Something rubs me up the wrong way slightly with threads like this. Unless you have been pining after Claudio for the last 10 years, including the three years we won the title with Jose, don't just start piping up now because he has won a few games and Leicester are suddenly, temporarily, top of the league for a weekend. No disrespect for Leicester achieving what they have, but we all know it will go downhill from here, especially when you look at their next run of fixtures.
November 23, 201510 yr Heard on the radio at the start of the season Leicester were 1000/1 to be top of the league as of right now. They are now 1000/1 to be relegated. Funny old game!
November 23, 201510 yr I've got a lot of time for him, he seems like a gentleman and I've got fond memories of Chelsea, when he was manager, the season we beat Liverpool and got fourth spot, good times, beating Arsenal in the Champions League, good times. Putting Monaco aside, which was a ridiculous game, we should have won the champions league, but we played good football under the tinker man and he's partly responsible for brining us the success we've had, with some of the signings that he made and getting us in to Europe, let's get behind Mourinho, but if the worst comes to the worst and he has to go, I'd be very happy to see him return, at the moment I'm looking forward to the ovation he'll get, when he comes to the Bridge with Leicester. November 23, 201510 yr Ive got to be honest, I was gutted when Vialli got sacked and CR was brought in. I thought after the successes under Gullit then Vialli, Chelsea under Ranieri were not as good, He could not speak English to start with and im sure that led to communication problems on the pitch. I cant remember that well but im sure his substitutions often seemed negative and sometimes lead to draws and defeats from winning positions. I don't know how many of the signings made when Roman Abramovich first bought the club were actually Ranieris, as there was a lot of gossip at the time suggesting the players were being chosen by the board or advisers etc. Having said all that, I never disliked him, I actually quite liked him in the end, that result against Arsenal in the CL QF was epic, and the way he handled himself in the last months of his tenure was very dignified and respectful with all the speculation going on all around him. He will get a good reception when he comes to the Bridge and rightfully so, as he, like all our past managers, is part our history.
November 23, 201510 yr If Leicester city was a car, Pearson was in the driving seat and the car stopped at a red light, CR opened the passenger side door and got into passenger seat at exactly the same time as the Thai owner opened the driver's side door and pulled Pearson out, CR grabbed the steering wheel, climbed over into the driver's seat, put his feet on the pedals, and continued driving the car, no tinkering needed! Roman's currently not looking for another chauffeur by all accounts. Edited November 23, 201510 yr by General
November 29, 201510 yr Always liked Ranieri! One of the most likeable figures in football and I'm really pleased to see him doing well at Leicester. I wouldn't bring him back as manager (happy to keep Mourinho) but despite the somewhat inconsistent years under his managerial tenure I always believed we deserved to win a trophy under him with the 2002 FA Cup Final against Arsenal being our best chance to accomplish that.
November 29, 201510 yr I was there. JT's reported dressing quote of "what the f**k was that?" Was the same as many of us fans were saying after the game. I like Claudio and wish him well with the Foxes. Probably suits him having a small squad and limited resources. Takes away the tendency to tinker. Think this about sums it up. Probably his most successful season was the one that we only signed deluca (who it turned out we hadn't even signed) limited for options he had to play a consistent team (I understand we came 4th and 2nd the following season but when i take in to account the players at his disposal i'd go with the 4th place season)

I just sort of look at that as a time we just couldn't beat Arsenal but that same season, I think we should have at least got to the league cup final. I remember that home leg against Spirs we should have had a stone wall penalty towards the end but we didn't get it. I think had we taken a 3-1 lead to Spurs we'd have gone through but with only a 2-1 lead they obviously knew they had a good chance of turning it over. I think beating them we'd have beaten Blackburn in the final.

Arsenal had been our bogey team for a decade but Ranieri was right in the middle of when this was happening. I don't think we beat them in the EPL between 1997 to 2004 so it'd been a bad run for us but beating them in the Champions League in 2004 was huge. Since then the tide has turned heavily in our favour. I always felt Ranieri deserved a trophy during his tenure but inconsistency and the lack of killer instinct to make the most of our opportunities was his undoing. This is something that changed after Jose became manager. Edited December 1, 201510 yr by Jezz
December 1, 201510 yr Just will tell you that Claudio is too nice. But then he'll also tell you that Jimmy's goals got Athletico relegated.

I think 95 was the last league win but we won two League Cup games against them think bother were in 98 the 97-98 season when we won it and the 98-99 season when we beat there kids 5-0. I would have loved us to win something in his time but I think it showed that he wasn't quite good enough.
December 1, 201510 yr 1997 - FA Cup 1998 - League Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup 1999 - European Super Cup 2000 - FA Cup 2001 - Nothing 2002 - Nothing 2003 - Nothing 2004 - Nothing 2005 -Premier League, League Cup Please remind me who was the manager between 2001 and 2004. Ranieri did some good things at Chelsea. He had to replace ageing players in Wise, Poyet, Petrescu, Lebeouf, De Goey etc. and made some good signings (as well as some bad ones)...but winning nothing has been the story of his career. He has had a 30 odd year careersome pretty big clubs (Napoli, Parma, Inter, Juve, Roma, Fiorentina, Chelsea, Valencia, Athletico Madrid) and to my knowledge has won a couple of tin pot cups. Someone like Benitez (who isn't rated on here) has won far more.

December 1, 201510 yr I think a lot of players that Ranieri is getting credit for signing might have been Kenyon bringing along Uniteds targets when he arrived here.
December 1, 201510 yr You speak of Facts By why worry about facts when you can seriously claim we should get rid of our most successful ever manager (and one of the most successful in football history) and replace him with a manager who won us nothing and has won virtually nothing in his whole career? Just base your opinion on the current league table and nothing else.
December 1, 201510 yr I think a lot of players that Ranieri is getting credit for signing might have been Kenyon bringing along Uniteds targets when he arrived here. Yup. A lot of people say Mourinho 'inherited' Ranieri's team. Every manager inherits the previous manager's team. Ranieri won nothing with it whereas Jose mopped up.

March 4, 201610 yr I think he would want a crack at the CL with Leicester. All the hard work done so why not?
March 4, 201610 yr If he is able to keep Kante, Vardy & Mahrez than sure why not but it's not everyday you get an opportunity to manage your Country.
