January 17, 201610 yr Well I've never walked out of a game in 48yrs of watching football at Stamford Bridge, but at half time time yesterday I nearly did. £100k + a week for walking around, no interest, no enthusiasm, nothing. And yet week after week we start with the same old faces and nothing changes until we go behind or on a very rare occasion go I front and give someone a run out for a few minutes. Edit. RLC got a bit of a game plays his heart out, scores a goal and what happens. Now we're going to buy more reject players and the cycle will go on and on. Really pissed off with this. That's exactly how I felt yesterday Kev. I had got on the coach at 8.30, paid over £100 for our two tickets plus £50 for the coach. And I really felt "never again" at half time. Yes, I'll of course still support the team, can't change that, but spend a day and all that money to travel down? I'm not sure....... Who am I kidding? I'll be back.
January 17, 201610 yr We rescued a point twice yesterday. Terrible marking for the third Everton goal.

The rlc frustration is felt by us all. It is nothing short of a disgrace that matic keeps getting game time ahead of him. He looks like he does not give a toss and has the mobility of a tree. While cesc and Costa clearly have a new lease on life after Jose matic has become the new malouda, an 18 month wonder. Edited January 17, 201610 yr by axman2526

January 17, 201610 yr I find it really frustrating that our best play this year is when we are chasing games from losing positions. We are badly lacking leadership on the field, players with strong character who will take a game by the scruff of the neck. Costa did it yesterday but the two who we would look to normally are struggling for form themselves. Under steve holland, didn't we play good from the get go? I'm not suggesting he's a super manager but instead maybe with a less demanding coach, it'd be better for this team at this moment.. It seems like hiddink emphasize on the cautious approach a lil bit too much that actually hindering the team.. Hopefully hiddinkk can adapt with the situation, cautious approach might still be needed in CL but in the league, just go gung ho, we got nothing to lose, plus I do genuinely believe our offence would make up for our defensive shortcoming thus winning more points..
January 17, 201610 yr I'm hoping the poor performance is just a build up from the busy Christmas period. We've played a lot of games the last few weeks. Hopefully a week off will do them good.
January 17, 201610 yr I'm hoping the poor performance is just a build up from the busy Christmas period. We've played a lot of games the last few weeks. Hopefully a week off will do them good. Our performances after a week off always seem to be a let-down. You expect to see a bit more cohesion after a week on the training ground, and you expect a bit more zip and energy, but it seems we rarely benefit from a bit of a rest. See also how the extended summer break contributed to our abysmal start, from which we have yet to recover.
January 17, 201610 yr nope, but we didn't have anyone on the far post - WTF is up w/ that?We did - Willian, but he abandoned his position when the ball was headed back to the corner taker.
January 17, 201610 yr A very exciting second half to watch at the Matthew Harding end. The first half was very tactical, Everton seemed to be by happy just closing their defence and we didn't create many chances except for the first shot that Howard defended. Zouma was the best player in my opinion during this first half. The second half started as the first one, with Everton waiting for their chances, which they scored. Three times they got to our goal and they scored twice. But we seemed to pick up from the second goal and they played as I haven't seen them in all this season. Pressing and tackling hard to gain the ball. Going forward all the time. And I was quite impressed by the left wing, with Azpilicueta and Pedro creating a lot of trouble to their defence. Two goals coming from that side. Then they stopped the match and our momentum, very clever. And Guus Hiddink changed Pedro when he was on fire and creating on the left a bit of trouble to their defenders, I think that was a mistake. The third goal... C'mon, we should not concede goals like that especially after equalising a 2-0 down. Fortunately, our players kept the pressure and playing forward and, sorry, it was offside, but Terry scored a great goal for Chelsea. And our stand came down with joy and all. Tough on Everton they conceded that final equaliser, but they didn't deserve to win with 4 shots on target and three goals. We were the better team in the second half, and the first half was bad for both teams. We need to play better, I didn't see much of a scheme. Costa had to drop to both wings to get the ball, and he is supposed to be a central striker. Fabregas dropping behind Matic and Obi to get the ball. I loved the second half for the intensity our players had after being 2 down, that's the intensity we've been lacking this season and we need it. Hopefully they can play like that during the first half of next games.
January 17, 201610 yr We did - Willian, but he abandoned his position when the ball was headed back to the corner taker. well I didn't see him there. Same situation with the Bournemouth match - there wasn't anyone for Chelsea on the backpost during a corner kick play
January 17, 201610 yr By the way, I don't know if you've already commented but the first goal showed Fabregas' class with his pass to Costa. Simply amazing. I remember a similar goal last season, I think it was against Arsenal. Edited January 17, 201610 yr by Motörhead
January 17, 201610 yr The thing irritated me about this game, and the last fews is we talked loud, but done very little. In the lead up Hiddink talked about how we won't give up on the CL spot. Came game day, playing 2 DM, out of sorts Ivanovic and Pedro. Seriously, you expected to win with that team? There was no urgency what so ever in the first half, we looked more than contend with the score. Once the flood gate opened after HT, everyone panicked, they could easily score 3 before we replied. The predictable change was made, thankfully Cesc and Costa stepped up to get us back into it. Again, no initiative from the manager and the players to push on for a third goal. I know Costa went off was a big deal, but we made very little attempt to win the game after we regained the control. My feeling was we were contend with 2:2. Once the third goal went in, we had to respond. However it was pretty much hopeful long balls, an miracle JT got us a point at the end. I believe we didn't improve after Jose left, we didn't lose because at least everyone is contend to play football, and luck has definitely turned for us.
January 18, 201610 yr Nice to see us scoring goals again. Defense is still crap and we still need to give the new boys more minutes

I remember a similar goal last season, I think it was against Arsenal. I don't want to sound like a spoiled brat, but the pass your talking about was just a punt up field, if Howard had of trusted Jagielka to deal with Costa and stayed back in goal, we probably wouldn't have scored that goal.

Of course we don't necessarily have to agree, but I think that how Fabregas put the ball to Costa and how Howard reacted are different things. The pass was quite well measured to a Costa running forward, you can see in the repetition how Fabregas raises his head to look where Costa was running before he put the ball there. Indeed if Howard hadn't come out it may have been a different outcome, but the pass was very good.

Even if howard had stayed back, costa would have had a 1 on 1, jagielka had already been taken out by the bounce. I agree it was a bit of a punt though, i'd give costa more credit for his persistence, than I would fabregas for the pass.
January 18, 201610 yr Just popped in to see my Everton supporting colleague. She was seething at "being robbed" by (actually I can't remember the exact words she used, but they certainly weren't complimentary") John Terry and how much she despised him. I just stood there smiling and said "yeah, and I love him". I then pointed out the skill involved in the back-heel. She was also disparaging of Costa and said how Martinez "for once" showed anger about a decision. I did laugh and say that he was constantly whinging but she wouldn't have it! Damn I forgot to mention to her that I supposed that Martinez would now be fined for his comments!

Did you mention Everton getting away with a stonewall penalty at city and Martinez being a smug prick in the interview after?
January 18, 201610 yr Martinez won't face FA sanctions for his comments about the ref. What an absolute load of b****x. If that was Mourinho the FA would have been down on him like a ton of bricks

January 18, 201610 yr Is this official? If somthen the FA are a bunch of incompetent cretins. or there is a crystal clear double standard - what is a fine for CFC won't be a fine for other clubs - it's business as usual for The FA - Again I will refer to Ashley Cole's description of what the FA is - TBH I am surprised that The FA didn't give Martinez an apology yet Edited January 18, 201610 yr by robdog
January 18, 201610 yr This is the organisation that allowed another manager to shove ours with no punishment, so it shouldn't be a surprise I suppose. Bunch of c**ts.
January 18, 201610 yr Is this official? If so then the FA are a bunch of incompetent cretins. Yes. Apparently Martinez didn't question the integrity of the referee and wasn't personal in his criticism
January 18, 201610 yr Yes. Apparently Martinez didn't question the integrity of the referee and wasn't personal in his criticism "It doesn't come down to the interpretation of the referee - he just wasn't up to the level." -Martinez Can't get much more personal that saying he was out of his depth/ incompetent.
