May 13, 201610 yr He was a pointless signing anyway what with Zouma playing great, Christensen shining on loan and Tomori and JCS coming through the ranks.
May 13, 201610 yr Should go to Vitesse next season, as others have said the PL is a considerable step up. Playing at Vitesse he can focus on finding his level/build momentum without the burden of expectation. Edited May 13, 201610 yr by the special one
May 13, 201610 yr I have a mate who goes to Swansea games. After the game he measaged and asked me "why did you have a player who had clearly snorted coke on the pitch". :)
May 13, 201610 yr IMHO I would rather see Young Matt do a stint in the Championship so he can adjust to life in England. The footie culture is a bit different than here in the States. One thing for sure is the fact that it's more emotional in England. In the States, teams don't worry about promotion or relegation. We have playoffs, but relegation situations are more serious than anything he would have experienced here in the States. Also the Derby matches are waay more intense than anything he would have played in here in the States. I couldn't imagine him on the pitch vs spuds. Even the match vs lpuke is intense, due to the history between lpuke & Chelsea. I think getting acclimated to the English footie landscape will do him wonders. Edited May 13, 201610 yr by robdog
May 14, 201610 yr Not even close to the level of Papy or Hector. Edited May 14, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues
May 14, 201610 yr Has anyone ever thought we bought him for marketing purposes? He's clearly an exciting talent for the yanks, and their "soccer" is getting bigger so to have one of the best young yanks at Chelsea surely means more friends from across the pond will follow Chelsea? Just a thought

Just a thought exactly what it is in my mind, in my opinion he is going to have to improve a hell of a lot to make it here and on top of that it is yet another pointless signing that is potentially blocking one of our youngsters joining the squad, jake clarke salter is the one who should of been given the opportunity to step up before signing someone as far as im concerned, especially an american from the mls for christs sake its longish odds he would make it at a midtable club let alone a club fighting for the league (not including this season obviously)
May 14, 201610 yr Strange buy, with what we have, u21s and people out on loan eg Kalas great debut at anfield. Djilojobi and Hector also bought. Unless all sold at a profit its waisted money.

Just a thought I thought about it, But then what would be the reason for us buying Papy Djilbodji ? Is it cos we want to market ourselves in Senegal ? What about Michael Hector ? I would just classify them as buys who were low money investments which may or may not pan out and so far it did not. Also, Everton having Tim Howard for so many years make them the most loved team in USA.
May 14, 201610 yr Also, Everton having Tim Howard for so many years make them the most loved team in USA. TBF everton had a lot of Yanks play for them. Joe Max-Moore, Brian McBride, Landon Donovan to name a few. For a minute there Everton was the only place Yanks could play. Every other Yank playing abroad were riding pine. Just a thoughtMaybe, it's hard to know what the discussions behind the scene were like. I would have thought that if this were the aim, another American would have made more sense as Miazga isn't a big name nor a flashy personality. I thought Drogba recommended that we get him, and the price was right. He was on less than £1000 a week at MLS. Christian Pulisic has been getting loads of hype in America. If we were to get an American for publicity investment, he would be a more sensible target. I doubt he'd come here though seeing that he is getting regular playing time at Dortmund. Just a thought Dont a fair few yanks already follow Chelsea. I read this a long while back that Chelsea and Rangers are two of the best supported clubs across the pond. And we readily sell out 80k stadiums while touring there. Edited May 14, 201610 yr by Orpington_Blue

May 3, 20179 yr reading a lot of info about Young Matt & it seems that he has improved immensely in his loan deal w/ Vitesse - the Daily Telegraph was nice enough to hold an interview w/ Young Matt after Vitesse won the Dutch Cup the other day. Edited May 3, 20179 yr by robdog
May 15, 20179 yr I was just bumping around the Club's website & found this interesting article about Matt. I didn't realize that Andy Meyers was one of his coaches. Seems that is another reason why Young Matt went on loan to Vitesse. Happy to see Matt showing a bit of progress in his career
July 15, 20179 yr Starts today for the US vs Nicaragua. Should be interesting to see how Young Matt performs for The Yanks.

July 16, 20179 yr After improving throughout his season at Vitesse where do people think his progression lies. He is too old to count as U21 so is unlikely to make the 6th CB spot in the first team squad so most likely another loan. Personally I think Fulham might be a good home for him this year, depending where Kalas goes, as I think being in London close to Chelsea would be good for him.
July 17, 20179 yr He won't and shouldn't stick with the squad this time around. A loan to Germany sounds about right to me. Gladbach can take care of him for a year or two. If he can improve his technique and positioning he's got the makings of a very good defender

I'd rather we loan him to a proper team that has a good philosophy on cultivating CBs. A good Italian or German team. Doesn't have to be Gladbach but I think Hoffenheim is pretty good too.
