If Conte wants Lukaku so be it, the manager must be backed, it does'nt matter what we want, we are not the manager, he's the one who has to be trusted.

 

If you assume the club are dumping Lukaku on Conte against his will, then fair enough I would be unhappy too, but their is no evidence of either yet.

Not entirely true. He can be very hard to control in the box. And i feel like he could benefit from having a second striker alongside him.

I've no issue selling Costa if he does want to leave and not fight for the cause.

My issue is paying double what we paid for Costa on a big lump with very little ability.

Sold Lukaku for 28mil, Bought Costa for 32mil.

Sold Costa for 50/60mil, Bought Lukaku/lacazette for 50/60mil.

I've not seen a link with that amount of money for Costa tbh most say around the 30/40 million mark while Lukaku is creeping up past the 60 million marker.

Of course those are just figures branded about but Costa is a far superior player to Lukaku so to sell him for less than we buy Lukaku is madness.

Again I'm not his biggest fan but that's just ridiculous. Heskey had like one good season whereas Lukaku is consistently been one of the top scorers of the season in this country.

I don't think Lukaku is a great player by any stretch but he's clearly a good one and a solid goal scorer.

Surely it shows just how good our scouts are that they found Lukaku and De Bruyne when they were youth? If anything it shows how bad Mourinho was that he got rid of them.

 

They found them and did what did they do with them???? sold on at a profit because Jose said they were crap......and all of the muppets around him bowed down to the great Jose who thinks in his own mind that he has given 149 Youth players opportunities ...don't make me laugh, WTF was he smoking? I agree Jose doesn't believe in youth development because when the kids do play and they lose, he has no patience because his ego and records become tainted.

Lukaku is Belgian. OK his heritage may originate from 'Africa' but he's Belgian.

It seems less likely that Costa would go to Athletico now they signed Gameiro. However I'm sure plenty of other clubs would be interested if he wants out so we could conceivably get a decent fee for him.

If we assume Costa wants out (which looks possible based on some of the stories of the last week) then the club has to decide how to move forward with the striker options. We could decide to stick with what we have, maybe supported by a lower cost, veteran striker (e.g. Ayew). That would put a lot of weight on Batshuayi's shoulders though. Or we try to sign one of the hotter strikers and pay a premium in the current market. Lacazette has been mentioned but I haven't seen us linked with him in a while. He would probably cost us $40m and would largely be signed on potential as he has never played outside French League. Looks like Morata is off the table. Higuain obviously is. So who else? I personally think that is a crazy fee for Lukaku but he probably would guarantee a decent amount of goals and of course he is younger than Costa.

With Ibra gone and Emery openly admitting he is in the market for a new striker it wouldn't be ridiculous to think we could fleece PSG for 50-60m for Costa if he wants out.

Even if Higuain is available, I won't want him here for that sort of money Juventus paid.

This is just a ridiculous post. Lukaku is 23, Heskey is 38, Lukaku only needs 46 more goals to overtake the amount Heskey has scored in his entire career.

A lot of you guys are totally overreacting. Lukaku is young and still has loads of potential. All the prices are over inflated these days just look at mane going to liverpool for 30m?? He's a good striker who always scores goals and didn't get much of a chance at chelsea. And if we're facing a packed defense we can throw on michy as he gives us something different. We could do with some more physicality in the squad too. I would hate costa to go I really like him but its not the end of the world. Give him a chance before bashing him and comparing him to 'heskey'.

I think Costa wants to leave because knows Spanish but not English. And the weather.

He may have potential; he is classed as home grown and he certainly has lots of ego, just watch him flail his arms in the air when he doesn't get the ball.......bring him back and give him another chance if you want....but not for 70 mill. 

I think a lot of people (including me) are against this transfer because he's a bellend.

 

You can't argue about his ability and potential.
