Romelu Lukaku

Of course they could. They need a bidding war to reach 100mill. Personally I really hope neither of us tries and lukaku runs down his contract. Take his pick of clubs as a free agent at age 26.

Would serve them right. This is getting ridiculous.

Another BBC article, saying Man utd have claimed a fee has been agreed, but Everton have said it hasn't. What a mess. I think he'll end up there now though.

I see this as a ploy by Eversh*te to bring about a bidding war to get close to their outrageous £100m valuation...to quote Kevin I would just love it if Eversh*te got nothing from manure and us and are left with both Lukaku and Barkley on their books and a shed load of debt and average players...

Wish we could pull the Matic rug underneath ManUre for this.  What a detestable club.

We did the same to them just a couple of years ago with Pedro.

My reading of the situation is: United apparently upped their bid for Morata to 70mil (last night rumors) and RM (apparently) rejected wanting more. United had enough and simply put it the same/similiar bid for Lukaku which (apparently, again) has been accepted.

Hardly a case for them being detestable. I dont know what we have been doing all this while. Not just with Lukaku, but with Bakayoko too.

Its an open market, if we dilly dally for a long time, some one or the other is bound to take advantage of the situation.

Also, lets look at our options if we dont get lukaku:

1. Costa: who clearly has been a wantaway. And despite not getting Lukaku i would say: GOOD RIDDANCE

2. Belotti: who has had one good season for a mid-table club in Italy, the same league where Cuadrado and Salah are first teamers for the winners and challengers. I have not seen the lad much, but people's opinions never surprise me. Lukaku is sh*t because he can ONLY score for teams like everton who dont have to deal with parked buses, yet we are willing to spend 88mil on a player who has had one good season in his career over a PL proven goal-scorer. Seems Fair.

3. Morata: RM apparently now want 90mil. Sorry, but thats insane for a player who has never even been a no.1 and led the line ever. Sorry, no deal.

4. PEA: For the price quoted, abilitywise, he would be the best option. But something is amiss because we have been linked with LEWA but not with him. Even once. Makes you wonder.

5. Sanchez: Throw 60mil at arsenal and getting him here.

If none of this works then, buy bit part players like Llorente and hope Michy, Llorente, another striker, along with Hazard, Pedro, Willian can give us 8-12 goals each.

It's football.

we have jumped in at last minute to get guys like Willian, Salah and others so we can't complain.

just the way it is.

Buying Llorente and playing him and Michy would guarantee a placing outside of the top 4 and a first round knock out from the CL. Like him or hate him, Costa's goals were crucial in the first half of last season in attaining top spot.

If the Board can't sign a top class striker to replace Costa, I would fully support Conte resigning.  He deserves better.  The Board should then tone down its ambitions if they aren't willing to invest in the squad.

It guarantees no thing of the sort, people were crying out for Costa to be dropped for michy, now michy might get to play and now that's us screwed.

Wouldn't it be interesting for us to now go and buy ibra.. exactly the same type of player as lukaku just in my eyes more clinical...

Sure, we just have to wait four more months until he gets back to fitness. He's also 35 so time is on his side.

I was just stating the options. It is a very real possibility that we will have Llorente/Michy leading our line.

As for Costa, I am not disputing his imortant goals, just the FACT that he wanted out. The costa that played for us since Jan will barely get 10 goals all season.

This was meant as a joke right?

Let's piece this together a bit, if we let him out of our grip because conte didn't want him then there must be someone else he is after, but can we get them, they must be confident. Or alternatively if we wouldn't meet the valuation but we're ready so spend big on a striker there is  still time and funds to get someone, lastly the board can't bring no one after 2 poor windows in a row (last window turned out good but from a board point of view they fell short after finishing 10th, conte saved the day and their blushes) add our last title defence they won't want a repeat. Also conte can't look good if we get no one after telling Costa not in his plans very early, so pressure to get someone on the board and the manager, and you would imagine in alll cases there are other strikers on our radar.

Not sure that is entirely true. Michy did little wrong when he was on the pitch and he'll only get better. We paid 33m for him last summer remember.

Llorente is also a proven goalscorer in three leagues. He's big, a great focal point with his back to goal and would do a job.

We could also look to spend the money from a Lukaku deal to secure a quality wide forward to assist with the goal scoring James etc.

Lukaku interview:

Said hes agreed to join a club, the clubs just have to come to an agreement.

Reporter: is it united?

Lukaku: No comment.

Reporter: Is it chelsea?

Lukaku: Smiles and walks away.

What a mess

He obviously wants to come here, but I don't think our board will pay what Everton want. If they seriously want more than £70m for him, then that is too much, but I'll still be disappointed to see him go to Utd

While Everton are c*nts, I think Raiola's fees were also included hence why the fee is so high. Iirc Raiola got 20m out of the Pogba transfer.

Never deal with Raiola or Everton again.

Just checked, it seems he pocketed 41m pounds from all parties involved

Some of the dramatics I read on here... how do some of you not have a breakdown? :)

1st we hear ... " this club is directionless, throwing 70 - 100 mill at that big talentless lump. This is a terrible transfer window and we are not going to challenge for anything."

then it's...."This club is directionless, dillying and dallying over Lukaku, and now we have lost our saviour and great hope. This is a terrible transfer window and we are not going to challenge for anything."

All paraphrased of course.

Firstly, we are 6 days into the transfer window. just 6. There is no drama and no need to panic buy. If we are still at this position in 1 mths time then we can be a bit worried, but as it stands we don't need to be too overly dramatic. If we do not sign Lukaku, so be it. We move on.

Secondly, aside from 2015/16, we have been pretty consistent over the recent past of being competitive at challenging for titles/cups. There is little to suggest that this is going to change in the short term. We have an owner who has, and is likely to continue to invest a sh*t load of money into the club. So, again, whatever the perceived "failings" of the board during this, or any other transfer window are, we have still been the most successful team of recent history.

Thirdly, in the very worst case scenario, Costa leaves and we don't sign anyone else upfront. oh well, is it the end of the earth? We have a highly promising (and bloody expensive) player ready to start up front, a player who many on here were screaming to get a chance last year, plus any number of false 9s that can play there. Is it perfect? No...but is it the end of the world? No.   Alas, that is highly unlikely to happen and we can all be fairly certain that someone else will be drafted in to bolster the numbers. Who knows, Costa may even stay.

Fourthly, Lukaku, Morata, PEA, Belotti are not the only strikers in the world. There are any number of players who could be purchased and do a good job for us. Sure they may not be superstar or household names,  and maybe people would be underwhelmed, but then there were similar themes when we signed  Cech, Lamps, Gallas, Robben (or any number from a list of very good players we have bought who were not stars or well known when we got them) - so, no drama. If we don't get any of the aforementioned players, we will get someone else. .... many have been critical of lukaku's big game mentality, record, link up play, passing... well, lets just get ibrahmimovic and be done with it :)

What will be will be.

We are the Chelsea and we are the best. We are the Chelsea so ..........

The names you mentioned are the only names available in the market who could do a job for us. And not just "a job" but THE job we want done to compete for the league and CL. Some random average striker won't get us far. We all saw what having sh*t strikers did to us in 13/14 when we could have won the league. Agree with your post except for that last paragraph.
