I suspect this is exactly what it is, agent or Everton leak the story to get us to pay £81 million which is what they valued him at. The Leaked fee of £75 million is coincidentally 6 off what they want....

I wouldn't worry if Lukaku didn't come if it wasn't because we are going to be left with just one striker when Costa goes. And there doesn't seem to be a plan B, and the Club is not fast to get any plan A transfer in.

But having said that, Marca reports that Utd have only turned their attention to Lukaku because Real Madrid wants 80m € plus 10m € for objectives achieved for Morata and Utd don't accept those extra 10m €. So my guess, which is as good as any, is that Manure are playing hard to bring down the price. On the other hand it seems that RM are not in a hurry to sell him and they also resent Manure for de De Gea affair. And Zidane would be more than happy to keep him in the team. I guess Manure will finally get Morata and we'll be again alone in the chase of Lukaku.

I would politely and strongly disagree with that.  Who heard of belotti this time last year?  I would guess not many.  OK,  so he had 1 good season and now people would like us to spend big on him. I would guess there are countless similar (relatively) unknown players out there who we could buy and make them into  that success story and star name.

United sources have also said a Lukaku move would kill any deal for Morata, but others at Old Trafford and close to Real Madrid maintain that would not be the case, and Mourinho would actually still like to bring in two forwards.

Sounds like their deal was actually with United and not us. We didn't get gazumped  

I just wonder what our strategy is for strikers and who we're going for.

Real will hold us to hostage now for Morata, mind you they are going to come for hazard next year or maybe teh year after so they might want to have a good relationship with us. Apparently conte is fuming at the board (how reporters know this I have no clue so take with a pinch of salt) but if he really was after lukaku as his main target as reports suggest he probably is frustrated. I think lukaku with do very well at UTD you get the feeling Mou is building a very strong team that will compete on all fronts, if they did snip him from under us you would think we wont be wanting to offload Matic out of principle, so double blow, this is what I keep saying negotiations a lot to do with personalities, Lukaku's agent brough Pogba and zlatan he has a good relationship with UTD, I really think Marinas Iron lady thing isn't very effective in this industry and the evidence to support that is mounting. 

It's difficult to know what to believe at this point. If we weren't interested in Lukaku, then who have we been looking at to replace costa, who has been on the way out for 6 weeks now. 

You look at United, and you can see how they have been trying to replace Ibra with bids for different targets, 1st was greizmann, then belotti, then morata, and now they have got Lukaku. 

We have only been linked with Lukaku, the morata rumours never gathered pace. 

So either we have been extremely secretive with our dealings, which I find hard to believe since the media got wind of bakayoko and rudiger before any bid was made, or we have been haggling with everton for months, only for United to wrap up the deal during talks regarding rooney. 

I think Lukaku was expecting to come here, but since it has dragged on, he has been persuaded by pogba, raiola, and maybe a reassuring phone call from jose that United will be a good move for him.

Got to keep faith in Chelsea, I'm sure they know Costa will be a massive loss and will be doing whatever they can to find an adequate replacement.

They'll know only a top class striker will do.

stories are tough to stay on top of here.  I thought Conte was mad at the board for lumbering him with Lukaku, but now he's mad that they've let his main target slip?

One thing that is interesting is the agent that is involved was the one that also brought Mikitrian, Pogba, and Zlatan to Utd, so he know's where he can cash checks.

Also, Lukaku was meant to be back with Everton, but is staying in LA where United are set to play next in a friendly against the Galaxy.  Putting 2 and 2 together here nad maybe coming up with 7, the press are sure that this is indication that Rom will have his medical in LA with United, and be announced this weekend.

I don't know how i feel about this, tbh.  I think that Rom has potential to be great if he worked on his hold up play and his effort.  But will that ever come, and is that the sort of effort that Conte wants in his forwards? 75 millions is an insane amount, but it's the going rate.
