His improvement has been quite remarkable, roll back the first league game and compare to the guy on Sunday, completely different players. Since the formation change, he looked like scoring every game ( missed a couple of really easy ones in previous games).

The thing stopping me from comparing him to Makelele is the fact that Maka, ace though he might have been, was really an anchor man. Kante, like Essien, obviously isn't. 

If I was to judge, I would say that Essien was stronger and offered a bit more going forward and on the ball, but Kante is better defensively. I've been really impressed with Kante's ability to intercept the ball and make clean tackles.

Would N'Golo be in the PL team of the season so far? I can't think of many other CMs that have been as consistent.

Even with his mistakes, his defensive work is crucial. Without Matic, he had to shoulder even more responsibility. I love him.

It was hard to him without Matic, he had a poor game but still tried to show his best and I respect that.

I think he's been a bit dodgy for the last 3 games now. I don't think it's all his fault though. I said it in the first half in the match day thread, the way we play is causing problems for ourselves defensively. I like playing from the back, but it's quite clear that in the last 3 games teams are closing us down quicker and it's causing us to make mistakes. We need to be sharper with our passing and more aware of what is going on around the players we are passing to. We have become too predictable with the way we play out of the back in the last few game. Too many times we are passing into really dangerous areas. Not everyone can turn out of trouble like Hazard does. 

I thought we were a bit better in the second half though and Kante's performance definitely improved as time went on.

We just need to be a bit less predictable with the way we play out of the back. It always starts with Courtois to Azpilicueta / Cahill then one of them will play it into Kante in the middle and by the time this happens, the opposition is all over us. It's too predictable and is the main reason why Kante has been giving the ball away of late.

For what it's worth he has the best pass completion rate out of any of our starters.

He won't be world class every gate but no matter what gives 100%

Especially with the system we are playing!

Fantastic player and very vital to our team, but his passing scares the life out of me sometimes. Sloppy against Tottenham, sloppy again yesterday and could have cost us so many times. Lost the ball in a incredibly dangerous position more then one time yesterday(one was when Aguero was put clean through) so he definitly needs to work on that.

I don't think he will get 8/10 every game because of the role he plays, yet he's the first 3 players on the timesheet every week. Matic/Cesc = disaster, while Kante/Cesc wasn't too bad against the most dynamic midfield/attack force in the league.
