August 8, 20169 yr "Nemanja Matic is a better passer and more of a goal threat than N'Golo Kante..." Souness doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Exactly. Matic can barely make simple passes these days and he scored 1 more goal than Kante last season. Souness shouldn't have even used how many goals they can score as an argument, neither of them are in the team to score goals. Souness has been coming out with more and more nonsense with each passing season, him choosing Ivanovic as the best RB last season was just embarrassing, it's honestly like he doesn't actually pay attention to the game. Even his comments about Pogba in that article was stupid, he based his opinion on how well he played in 2 Champions League matches and a few games in an International tournament. The guy knows nothing about Pogba by the sounds of things.
August 8, 20169 yr Hazard on form is the biggest game changer in this league imo. He can be absolutely magestic when he means business.
August 8, 20169 yr Matic being a better passer and more of a goal threat than Kanté (and both of those claims are definitely up for debate) isn't particularly relevant when discussing the pros and cons of a defensive midfielder who will have five players in front of him at all times. Using that logic you could argue that we should play a Fabregas-Oscar midfield.
August 8, 20169 yr Matic's passing is embarrassing usually so I find it absurd anyone would rate Kante's as worse.
August 8, 20169 yr Kanté tends to keep it simple, even when playing for a side who moved the ball as vertically as Leicester. Obviously that's not necessarily a bad thing. Matic at his best was more adventurous; I remember him pulling off some fantastic forward balls in the title-winning season.

Matic at his best was more adventurous; I remember him pulling off some fantastic forward balls in the title-winning season. Trouble is for over 15 months his passing has been well below par, it was never a big feature of his play in the first place IMO but it's night and day from what it was back then. Kante is a tidy footballer, his passes rarely lead to a loss of possession like Matic's attempts.
August 8, 20169 yr Matic was better than Kante when we won the title. Matic was a beast and a goal threat as well. Scored a few I think.
August 8, 20169 yr What happened to the constant posts of kante being 'the next makelele' or (and I have read this around) a MORE COMPLETE makelele Or was this only when he was at Leicester

August 16, 20169 yr Exactly what we've been missing. Sadly i don't think we need Matic anymore. In my opinion, we really do. Our defence is poor, in the sense of the play that we want to play - a high tempo and pressing game. Our defence needs the cover provided by 2 good DMs. Next year with Zouma and Christensen, we can try and play with just Kante.
August 16, 20169 yr Exactly what we've been missing. Sadly i don't think we need Matic anymore. Matic can become to Kante what Essien was to Makalele Edited August 16, 20169 yr by ForeverCarefree
August 16, 20169 yr And he played 87+ minutes reservedly on a yellow. People saying he should have been sent off, I haven't seen it again but from memory it was just a regular foul and didn't warrant another one right?
August 16, 20169 yr Matic can become to Kante what Essien was to Makalele In my personal opinion i believe Nate or Loftus have more chance of becoming just that. I can't see Matic ever making those powerful runs forward like Essien did. Obviously this is just my opinion though so anything is possible!
August 16, 20169 yr I honestly do not see this player that people think in Loftus Cheek. He looks distinctly average to me and I think a lot of hope has been pinned on his shoulders.
August 16, 20169 yr didn't think he had a great game. he was decent, and obviously playing on a yellow with a bit of nerves on his debut contributed, but I think he was a little hesitant and there is going to be more adaptation needed.
August 16, 20169 yr Well obviously it's going to take him some time to get out from Mikel's shadow but I think it was a very encouraging debut all things considered.
