Fernando Llorente

But we have 2 young strikers, both of which can play out wide and want to be first choice, I`m pretty sure if Dembele or Iheanacho signed they would also want to play first choice so it would be a ridiculous transfer to make. why cant you understand that Llorente would be either 3rd choice, plan b to break down teams or a great foil for either of our young strikers.

There is no logic in spending more than 10 or 15m on Lorente.

If we're going to sign a 3rd choice striker, i'd prefer us to go for a loan signing, then we can get rid of them easily at the end of the season if they are sh*t, or if we choose to promote Tammy, and we don't have the issue like we have with Remy, of having an unwanted player on a long contract, and having to pay their wages and find them loans for the next 3-4 years. Plus if they impress, then we will have the option of actually signing them, knowing they already fit into the side.

Sounds good but who's going loan us a striker that's worthy of playing in Chelsea blue? Torino?

Well if it's a 3rd choice, backup, you're not looking for worldclass, i'm sure there will be options.

I don't find it ridiculous. If there is one thing that made me prefer Lukaku over Morata, it's because Lukaku have shown consistently that he can score goals for fun in the EPL.

So did Ba and Torres.

Fair points. I think the signing makes a lot of sense. If I'm honest I'm not sure he'd be third choice. I think he'd very much be ahead of Michy in the order. Michy has a lot to learn about leading a line. Not just about goals.

I was curious to see the thoughts on Llorente and it appears to be a mixed bag. Lots of good points. I agree that should we sign him, it cannot be at the expense of Batshuayi.

With the extra European games, we need depth, especially adding in EFL Cup and FA Cup games. If Morata pans out, I could see him being used for matches vs top 6 PL and the CL, with Batshuayi and Llorente, if signed, playing in all of the others. Add in injuries and I think Llorente would be a good pick up, especially under 20 million.

Llorente did score 15 Premier League goals for Swansea last year in 33 games. It included goals against us and Liverpool.

I like his height and headers from corners.

We need depth and he can give us that along with experience.

Telegraph saying he'll cost 15m now given his injury and Swans have just got Bony. I'd be happy with having him, Morata and Bats. 32 is a bit old for the money but he won't be asked to play every match, he can play with either of those two and Conte will know exactly how to use him

He did score 15 league goals for a poor Swansea last season. Including quite a few against big teams.

At this point i'd take him in a heartbeat. He's miles better than Michy.

Do we really have to pay money for him? can't we just do a swap deal with Remy?

Would have to sell Remy to them as Tammy is already on loan there...

At 75 minutes yesterday when Bats came on surely quite a few people (including myself) were wishing it was Llorente.

If we get him, Ox and Drinkwater I think we will have the depth to compete for the league this season and reach QF of CL

Hardly ambitious signings though are they.

To be fair it's the sort of signings we need.

We've sold off a lot of experience and someone like Llorente just gives Conte someone to turn to that he trusts. It's clear he doesn't rate Michy so giving him someone he's confident and comfortable calling upon makes sense.

Exactly, our first XI doesn’t need improving, it’s our squad and options from the bench.

if we can get llorente, ox and Drinkwater for 80 mil then I think that’ll be good business.

Also hopefully Tammy takes up a second striker slot next season. So llorentes age doesn’t worry me if he can play for 2 more seasons

Why are people so keen to separate the first 11 from the rest of the players like they are untouchable?

This is a squad game now. Every player coming into the team at any point should be at a level where the quality isn't impacted as a result.

Much like Drinkwater, I don't want someone coming in who is ok being on the bench. If Llorente is happy with that then I don't want him here.

Who's to say Drinkwater would be coming to sit on the bench?

Let's not forget, like Kante, he's played in a league winning team. Okay he's not a superstar but he's capable of doing a job, it's unrealistic to think every signing is going to a marque one.

Unrealistic to expect 22 grade A players unless it's RM, MU, PSG or City. Rest of clubs have to balance books. New stadium is to be non Roman funded (bond) so this signing makes sense.

Even those teams don't have 22 grade A players.

People need to come to grips that you don't have to sign every big name available to win. We proved that last season, Leicester proved that the season before. SAF won his last PL with Smalling and Cleverley among others
