Fiorentina and Italy defender Davide Astori has died in his sleep.

The centre-back turned 31 in January and was the captain of the Viola squad, with 14 senior Italy caps and one goal to his name.

He had become a father only two weeks ago.

 

According to Udine Today, the player failed to wake up this morning when he was at the La di Moret hotel in Udine on a training camp with the squad, awaiting today’s match with Udinese.

The reports were spreading rapidly and Fiorentina released a statement this morning to confirm the news.

“Fiorentina are profoundly shaken and forced to announce that their captain Davide Astori has died,” read the statement.

“For this terrible and delicate situation, and above all out of respect for his family, we appeal to the sensitivity of the media.”

Udinese-Fiorentina has obviously been called off. There are reports the rest of the Serie A games this weekend could also be cancelled.

Sad news. Strangely enough I signed him on football manager for Fiorentina on one of my FM10 saves.

Iniesta was injured earlier today against Atletico and he will miss from 3 to 4 weeks.

So, Coutinho is cup-tied, Dembele is just back from injury and has played around 10 mins. So that we'll leave Gomes and Paulinho (but he plays on the right most of the time anyway).

Not that I'm optimistic about it after recent displays but every little boost can help.

How exactly will that help Eden in winning headers against pique and umtiti? Because Conte the brave will play him upfront, right?

I can already guess us being 0-0 till the 89th minute and then Conte the brave finally putting in giroud for eden.

Even though we're struggling, I always remind myself that we're not Arsenal.

Is playing for 1-0 smart? Should we be more open in hopes of an early goal and risk losing the tie in the first half? 

A repeat of the tactics in the first leg would be fine by me, should have put 2 or 3 past them and we absolutely shackled Messi.

This is sad.

I haven't followed Fiorentina seriously for a little while but Astori was an OK defender at his best.

He's younger than my brother, which goes to show you how fragile life can be and to try and appreciate it.

RIP. 

Looking at Manchester United's lineup, maybe Mourinho deserves abit of credit. I mean, that team on paper isn't that great. Horrible defence. De Gea has saved them from a few more L than they've already had. Smalling, Lindelof and Young all in your back four. Jeez. 

Woy has his team playing some decent stuffs.

Palace 2-0 up vs United. They're a terrible team and we should have won last week. Palace making short work of them. If we can win our remaining fixtures we may still have a chance of top 4. United are rubbish

We can if we get our sh*t together. They lose to Liverpool and City and we will be level on points with them. May come down to goal difference. Top 4 is not out of reach. So frustrating watching us drop so many points needlessly. We should be 4th at least but we're not.

Shaw looks well out of shape. Going to be a big lad once he retires. 

that was inevitable. crystal palace did well to go two up, but their lack of key first team players is a issue for them right now. it was the same vs spurs. zaha would be a massive boost for them up top right now. the fecker gets fit before they played us though, typical.
