what can we do about it anyway? Plus, UEL is a mickey mouse cup. Whoever wins it, I don't give a sh*t unless it is for us to become the first english club to win all european cups (as we did in 2013 ;) ) !

Of course we can't do anything - except root for the opposition - same as I do for Liverpool, Spurs or Manure. I can't say I'm that bothered really but still don't want them to win anything - even the Mickey Mouse cup.  Especially as it would presumably be Arsene's last game and the media would be OTT about it.

I couldn't help comparing Atletico's performance to ours at the Emirates earlier this year in the LC semi-final.

 

Atletico dug in, yes they were lucky with their goal, but the fact they kept Arsenal at bay for so long with 10 men had nothing to do with luck and everything to do with character, discipline, organisation, team work, etc etc. They conceded on the hour and it could have gone tits up, lose 2-0 and the tie's pretty much dead but their heart kept them in it.

 

We are a team that play with little heart IMO. Things go against us and our heads drop, we're not resolute, we're not tough enough, we're fragile, we always concede, teams can sniff our vulnerability whereas Atletico emit strength.

 

Also, Liverpool the other night, they had Roma on the ropes, they went 1-0 up, they went for the jugular, they went for the kill, which is what you should do when your opponent is wobbling. Again, I couldn't help contrast with our team, we almost always go into our shell when we go up and let the other team back in it, even if we've totally dominated the match up till then.

 

We could learn a thing or two from those two performances. Such a shame our mentality is so weak, particularly as Chelsea teams of recent vintage were so formidable mentally. That was always our strength.

This could end up being an epic season still. We snatch top 4 at the expense of Spurs or Liverpool, oh what joy. We win the FA Cup at the expense of Jose, oh praise be. Liverpool fail to win the CL and Arsenal fail to win the EL.

 

On the other hand, this could end up being the worst season in living memory.

Watching the highlights now of Arsenal vs Atletico, think the ref was totally pandering to the crowd with some of the decisions personally.

Bad result for Arsenal that, I get Atletico are a good team but you take the lead against 10 men at home you should win. Hopefully Costa scores a few at home and finishes the Gooners off.

Actually if Liverpool win the CL and Arse win the EL we will miss out on a CL spot in multiple scenarios, Liverpool winning has a silver lining that gives us a spot even if we come 5th. It could really hurt us if Arse win the cup

Is that right?  My brain is hurting from the different scenarios - if Pool win the CL but we overtake them for 4th?  But didn't they change the rule after we won it and stopped Spuds having a spot?

- Pool win the UCL and finish in top 3 and le arse win too and we finish 4th : we play the UCL as there's a max of 5 teams allowed for PL for top 4 + UEL winner if english (see last year with manure).

- Pool win the UCL BUT finish 5th and le arse win too and we finish 4th : in this very specific scenario, we'll get shafted insofar as top 3 will qualify and UEL and UCL winners automatically qualify to the expense of 4th place BUT ONLY if both win and Pool don't finish in top 4. In this very scenario, we'd have to finish 3rd to qualify for UCL ...

Yeah that's what I thought.  I think.  So a few ifs and buts there. Won't worry just yet anyway.  And it still doesn't affect the fact that I want them both to lose anyway.  So I just carry on cheering for anyone else regardless.  Job done.

Of course I don't want those fcukers to win either, but we should not make a big deal if they still win because ... well, le arse will only win a sh*t cup and there would be a lot of unfavourable factors for us to miss out the UCL if we comeback !! Granted, I agree with you on pool : I hope they lose !!!! I don't want them to win !!! Worst case scenario ? If we finish 5th we're f**ked guys !!! since tottenham are 4th they'll qualify !!! there's only 4 spots available for England NOT 5!!!!!!!! the 5th spot in ONLY for the UEL winner. that's it !!!! the only """5th spot""""" is : winning UCL while finishing outside top 4; winning UEL. that's it !!! Otherwise, you must make top 4 !!!
