His passing was shocking and he had no legs at all, but... I remember in his last few games under Ranieri he actually started to show some form... I think it was against Man Utd he had a very good game.. Gronkjear was incredibly frustrating. He'd take his man on and then sky cross-shots over the bar over and over again. Zenden another one who was just injured all the time and he'd have 1 good game then disappear for months. I think Qique Dear Lucas did better than both in the end. Jarosik, Smertin, Geremi were all part of the huge squad where they were just depth, but he wasn't too bad, imo. Tall, gangly, got about the pitch, would shoot now and then. I never liked Geremi as a player, either, especially at right back. Someone could probably make thread with unlikely/underused/cult hero/underrated best XI... Players who didn't feature as much as they might have but were popular or effective when they played..

F..k knows how- he was short, tubby, slow and sported a ridiculous pudding bowl haircut- looked like a right twat. I think Ivanovic a couple of years ago could have warranted a place- he was a very good servant for the club generally but was woeful in Jose's last couple of months- he got skinned alive week in week out- looked like he was running in treacle-and still picked because Mourinho felt we needed height in the team.. Geremi as alluded to earlier weren't much good but did have a cool nickname- Ron!

I remember him against Palace (the infamous Paul Canoville game) rounding the keeper and missing from about 2 yards. So many terrible players over the years but as bad as Darren Wood was his replacement Peter Nicholas was useless as well. My mate started as a milkman in the mid 80's John Sparrow was at his induction.

December 23, 20178 yr Surprised that no one has mentioned Maniche, the only game I remember him playing was against West ham and we were losing the game when he got sent off. Then the team clicked and we went on to win. I'm not sure if he got another game after that.

December 23, 20178 yr Torres was obviously not the best for us but for his goal against Barca he should be excluded from this conversation
December 23, 20178 yr I don't know if he played for us but just for being an general idiot Leon Knight deserves a mention

John Sparrow of long throw fame- I heard something yesterday that shocked me- a Chelsea player from the 80s who would never be included in the rubbish list, wore long sleeve shirts all year round, because allegedly he had a National Front tattoo on his forearm.

What also seems to go largely unnoticed is he nearly blew the whole tie for us 20 seconds before that goal and Bosingwa off all players saved his backside (He made a crucial interception that stopped a 2 on 1 vs Cech) . Torres may have got the goal but Bossy deserved the plaudits for that moment, because if it wasn't for him we would have been reliving the Iniesta horror mark 2 at the time we were jumping for joy.
December 24, 20178 yr Well, its not one goal, that's the problem. I remember goals vs Arsenal away(we won 2-1), vs Benfica in Europa League final, he won the corner vs Bayern, goal vs City in added time for 2-1, also reached almost 50 goals which isn't that bad as amount. He was disappointment given the expectations but alltime rubbish team? Come on man, that's harsh.

His league record was 20 goals in 110 games, for perspective Eto'o got 9 in 21, he was a bit better in the cup's but still nowhere near good enough. Problem i had with Torres is he didn't excel at anything, there wasn't a single part of his game (while with us) that could be considered a strong point. He couldn't hold the ball up, his touch was inconsistent at best, he had weak mental strength with no courage physically or mentally, he lost his pace, no awareness, could go on. He didn't have one single reliable quality we could fall back on, he was a complete irrelevant in a team game and it was like playing with 10 men and a guy up front doing his own thing. If we signed Jermaine Beckford, gave him the same chances, same excuses, same unconditional support, same preferential treatment (which at one point included unconditional full matches for six months) and signed numerous players that suit his game, he would have likely had a similar goal return, and some of them would have been vital (law of averages and that) but it wouldn't have changed the fact he was crap. When you mix performances, price tag and the overall negative impact on the club as a whole he walks into an 'all time rubbish team', as bad as the likes of Turnbull, Cuadrado, Pizzaro, Del Horno etc were, they had no negative long term effect on us, Torres held us back as a club for years.

I think that is harsh TBF, I think he had a bad injury just before joining us and that badly hampered his physical ability added to that he thought he was wanted only to find he was to play second fiddle to Drogba. I normally thought he played ok and tried to be a team player yet was no longer the super striker which we all expected.

Van Persie also lost his blistering pace by the time he went to United but he made up for it by clever runs and movement to shift defenders. He was only playing second fiddle to Drogs because he was THAT bad, AVB and Carlo both had him as number 1 at first but quickly realized he was done. Drogba's form fell off a cliff (understandably) after contracting malaria and he never got it back, if Torres was even as good as Ba or Eto'o DD wouldn't have got back in.
December 24, 20178 yr Crapajoko Crapajoko -- Crapajoko -- Crapajoko Crapajoko -- Crapajoko Crapajoko -- Crapajoko -- Crapajoko Crapajoko One Crapajoko has gone missing because that's his favoured position.
December 24, 20178 yr @Argo A good analogy with RVP yet he was nearing the end of his career and didn't go for a huge fee. With Torres he was much younger and the most expensive player in the league, only to find he no longer had his pace and I guess that destroyed his confidence. I recall Robert Fleck and Chris Sutton with similar problems yet Torres was just so high profile........£50m.
December 26, 20178 yr Dave Beasant in goal. Those howlers against Norwich I will never forget. 2-0 up as well. Frank Sinclair at RB. Man should bring out his own DVD with all the fcuk ups he's made. Lambourde, Bogarde and Boulahrouz Quaresma, Parker, Jokanovic and SWP Fleck And Carlton Cole. Bench - Kharine, Myers, Smertin, Sutton, Sheva, Del Horno, Burley, Granville, Ambrosetti, Laudrup, Torres and Veron.
December 26, 20178 yr Would feel harsh putting Beasant in goal as he did have some good games. Turnbull Boulahrouz Ben Haim Bogarde Del Horno Jokanovic Miniero Ambrosetti Marin Furlong Nicholls
December 26, 20178 yr Dave Beasant Chris Hutchings,Graham Roberts,Mikey Nutton, Del Horne Vinnie Jones,Eamonn Bannon,Graham Rix Chris Sutton,Robert Fleck,Billy Dodds Subs: Craig Burley and Pizarro.
