Next Chelsea Manager

Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

Watching them play with the ball in their own corner makes me scared thinking about Cahill and Bakayoko trying to make those quick passes. His style of football is incredibly attractive but I'm not sure we have anywhere near the personnel to attempt this style at the moment.

This, could be funny watching them try though... (though not in a good way).

Don't think we're that far off. Even with just one signing, let's say Jorginho, we could line up like this.

Hazard-Morata-Willian/Pedro

Fabregas/Barkley-Kante

Jorginho

Emerson-Rudiger-Christensen-Azpi

Courtois

That's a good solid 11 to play possession football with imo.

Do you really think Fabregas/Barkley will press like Sarri wants them to? :laugh2:

Jorginho would be lovely, and another CB that's solid on the ball would be a necessity. Watching Chelsea somewhat, kinda-sorta, attempt to play out the back was frustrating to watch this season. Seemed like we would knock it back and forth then go back to Courtois and he'd hoof it up top

Just an example lineup.

My point was that we're not that far off putting a capable possession team on the pitch.

Don't you think Christensen Rudiger would be good enough on the ball ?

I think, the reason why we struggled this season was because Conte didn't want to take a lot of risks and also we regularly played with Bakayoko and Kante in our midfield.

If we want to play possession footbal then there can be only 1 "destroyer" flanked by 1 or 2 playmakers.

It HAS to be linked to Sarri Barrett. What else could it be?

Perhaps he has heard some inside info concerning the appointment. Cesc has regressed as a player though. He was never good defensively but now he's a serious liability and his short passes have become almost mediocre too. I wonder how he'd fit into Sarri's plans.

I think he looks absolutley knackered from his defensive work. He has changed his game under conte this season, and he has definately lost something going forward. Maybe sarri could get an Indian summer out of him.

I think he could be a useful experienced back up for hopefully a jorginho type playmaker.

Sorry it's just what they don't do off the ball that concerns me. Hamsik's ability to recover the ball and close passing angles for example is just as important to Napoli as what they do in possession.

I'd be very happy with Jardim, he would be a great appointment.

At this point there it is impossible to tell whether we approached him or not, maybe he turned us down, maybe he is still a possibility.

Everyone is talking about sarri because it appears he is the most likely candidate, even if he isn't the best on paper.

Personally i would like to see us play a high pressing and possession based game for a change, having had 5 seasons of mourinho and conte.

I think sarri is a good option to implement a different style, judging by the work he has done at napoli.

He may be older than Jardim, but I don't see that as an issue, since it's unlikely any manager will be here long term anyway, and also Jardim has said he doesn't plan on managing into his 50's.

Youth integration is something Jardim has done well, although Monaco' s policy has meant he has been given young squads with high potential, so his hand is forced to some degree aswell.

With regards to Sarri's lack of trophies, I can agree it is a concern, although you were hoping for Eddie Howe a few weeks ago and he hasn't got a full trophy cabinet either. Howe has done a remarkable job, and im sure you will agree a lack of silverware doesn't necessarily mean your not a good manager.

Whoever comes in will no doubt have something to prove, I am hoping for a change in style, even it means a couple of trophyless seasons, because i think it will set us better in the long run.

I wouldn't say I was hoping for Eddie Howe, he would be far from my first choice, but I wouldn't be unhappy with him, for reasons I previously stated. Certainly I think he deserves a bigger club.

Incidentally, I'm still waiting for somebody to tell me how Sarri did in the cups while he was at Napoli, and how he did in Europe. We know he hasn't won anything, we know he got a lot of points and finished second to Juventus, but I think he's been at Napoli 3 years, a club which had won silverware with its previous manager, and undoubtedly now one of the best clubs in Italy. How did he get on? If somebody's got that info, let's have a look. It's all very well people talking about pretty football but let's have a closer look at the results.

Sarri remains frontrunner for Conte's job at Chelsea in pivotal week for the Blues. Enrique still in the frame, Monaco growing confident on keeping Jardim but Jorge Mendes has taken an interest: goal.com/en-gb/news/sar… #CFC

I agree with that. Don't think we really have anyone in the squad that could play the Hamsik role for us. So ideally we'd have to make a second midfield signing.

Probably also try and  find an upgrade for Willian/Pedro.

People need to remember that Kalidou Koulibaly was labelled as a bit of a flop after his first season at Napoli, Sarri then came in and  after a few years is now considered one of the best CBs in Serie A

Jorginho was a nobody, Insigne wasn't productive enough and Napoli as a whole were massively underperforming. Sarri came in and was able to elevate those players and implemented them into the style of football they play now

He's always taken massive pride in coaching and teaching players how to play his way, he'd rather develop a player than look for a quick fix in the form of a big money signing. Obviously we'd need a few new players but we wouldn't need a massive overhaul

Look at someone like Christensen, he's extremely comfortable on the ball and with Sarri's coaching he would flourish and develop into one of the best CBs in the League

That because Sarri has trained that team to do that. The reason why his players do what they do so effectively is because he works hard and repetitively trains them on what to do, how to move and where to pass to. Napoli were in a worse state then we are when he took over them and further from the football they play now then we currently are. Practice is what has made them so proficient at the things they do, not some superior technical ability to our players.

there will be no suit wearing on the touchline unfortunately. only trackies for sarri. if he wears a cap too, we might have pulis in disguise ha.

We'll have to agree to disagree. For me Sarri's success at Napoli was just as much about the players he had at his disposal as his tactics/coaching, imho.

If we sign Weigl, Jorginho or Hamsik I'll be happy to share your optimism.
