Potentially we might be able to build a partnership. Although my read is that they have very similar styles so may not be very complementary.

I've said earlier than if we're shopping in Italy for a young CB. Romagnoli is the guy. Milan are in all sort of financial troubles, we should be taking advantage.

We were rumoured to have had a €40m bid rejected for romagnoli a couple of days ago.

Not sure how much truth there was to that.

Bonucci is supposedly on the move though, so maybe they wouldn't want to lose both 1st choice centre backs.

Sadly I think they are trying to shift Bonucci to service their debts rather than Romagnoli

200 appearances at big clubs like Roma and Milan. Left footed centre backs are also rare as hens teeth and so important when trying to play out from the back. We were blessed having JT who was two footed on that side for a decade.

That is a deal that is worth paying for.

I've not seen much of him, but I know he is very highly rated in Italy.

I agree Rugani and Christiensen are very similar, so it might not be a perfect match. Only time will tell.

I don't think we particularly need Rugani or Golovin, but signing both would leave us with very few doubts in defence and midfield.

It's just the goalkeeper and attacking options to sort then, anything could happen in those departments.

Time is running out pretty fast, plenty of rumours, but we have about 10 1st team deals (incoming/ outgoing) in 21 days.

Agree I think in some cases it is the deals we can get done rather than the ones we most need. I'm personally of the belief that it is better to not recruit at all rather than buy the wrong player. Zappacosta a perfect example from last summer.

Golovin I can see some logic in (one of Cesc, RLC and Barkley will need to leave to make that work though) but Rugani I'm not sure about.

Edit: If Rugani does come in, we must bring back JT in some capacity. Rugani and Christensen are both very young and inexperienced. JT's guiding hand could be crucial for both.

Signing zappacosta when we had Reece James and dujon sterling was criminal.

If we don't have a couple more in by the end of the month, I will start to get nervous, we have a history of making questionable signings late in the window.

JT would be a nice influence to have around the place, he still hasn't found a new club yet, so it's a possibility, albeit an unlikely one unfortunately.

Wasn't the whole point of Bonucci going to Milan was that he didn't want to leave Italy for personal reasons?

Yeah, his son was ill and needed to be near a specific hospital wasnt it?

I don't understand why we are trying to sign central defenders, we have Christensen, Rudiger, D.Luiz and "Azpilicueta". We should worry about attacking options, with question marks over Willian and Hazards future at the club.

Sarri specifically said he needs different qualities from his defenders what we currently have in his debut presser. That is why.

That was a mistranslation apparently, supposedly he meant midfield "lacks quality".

For me I think we do need a new central defender. Not in terms of numbers but quality.

We have five CBs currently (not including Dave). Rudiger, Christensen, Cahill, Zouma, Luiz.

None of them stand out as a guaranteed locked in starter who you build your defence around. Perhaps Rudiger is closest and Andreas may grow into that but he isn't there yet.

Rugani isn't that player.

We just gonna ignore how much better the team looked for months when Christensen first came into the team? A few errors and everyone forgets that.
A few errors that got us eliminated from the champions league and lost us points in the league? FEW ERRORS INDEED!

I could go through every single player and find us a couple of errors. I could look at Morata/Willian's finishing and say they cost us a hell of a lot more points than Christenen did this season.

We ain't playing in the champions league so Rudiger, Christensen, Cahill and Luiz are good enough for me. It was a big risk having just one defensive midfielder last season in Kante, we should spend the Rugani money to bring in Rabiot or Ndidi. Kante playing every game consistently since his time at Leicester will soon affect him. We are not in the Champions league this season, so it will be logical to play him only in the league.

@wallosh For me I think Luiz is crucial. He is the best bet to cover Jorginho and possibly Kante in case of injury. We also have to hope Bakayoko improves.

I really think we need a top class defender who can pass to come in. With Jorginho playing deep we're going to have all sorts of issues if teams break through our press. A Manolas for example gives us a bit more solidarity than our current centre backs. I love Andreas and he will play a big role for us this season, but we can't ask him to shoulder the burden of being the player we build our defence around.

Luiz is not consistant he made horrible individual errors and was injured a lot of time, Rudiger/Christensen + Rugani would be really good. Cahill could probably play around 15 high quality games as well so I prefer those 4 and that we sell David Luiz.

He left Villa because they couldn't afford him anymore. Man still wants to get paid as a 5 time Premier League winner even if he is 137 years old.

He left Villa because his 1-year contract ended.  He had committed to stay there  if they got  promoted, but they didn't.

According to the Birmingham Mail, "Terry reportedly earned £70,000 a week at Villa", hardly earth-shattering in the modern madness that is football.
