July 28, 20187 yr For obvious reasons, United have no interest in buying Morata. They won’t. I am not talking about a straight swap. But are people open to the idea of selling Morata to some foreign club and buying Anthony Martial instead (plus 10m for youth)? They have slightly different playing styles (one is a proper number 9, the other is probably better slightly wide), but given that neither player scores enough, why should that even be an issue ?!? One is reportedly a “star in the making”, the other is reportedly a “star” who has never shone ! Or is losing Morata too big a gamble? (P.S. I dislike them both)
July 28, 20187 yr I don't know about people, I would. Martial is young, talented player. Morata is 25, soon 26, he has already showed Juventus, Real Madrid and Chelsea that reaching 20 goals and playing well consistently is not his thing, he is already in his prime and players never change on this stage of their careers, he's mentally broken, the league doesn't fit him... so the answer is yes. You can work with Martial. Edited July 28, 20187 yr by Giordano_Bruno
July 28, 20187 yr I don't really know. I'm still not quite convinced Martial would be the answer up front for us.
July 28, 20187 yr tbh it doesn't matter what we think, if Sarri didn't want to work with Morata but would prefer to try out Martial then yes give it a go, so whatever Sarri decides to go with is the best option, what the hell do we know really ?
July 28, 20187 yr Would rather move Morata to Italy and try to get Dybala in return. If we couldn't get Dybala, perhaps Belotti. Willian for Martial could work although i think Leon Bailey could be a better choice.
July 28, 20187 yr Martial is a very exciting player. But I can't really see him as a prima punta type striker who leads the line. I think if we buy him it'll be hard to stop he and Hazard being in each others spaces.
July 30, 20187 yr Author In pure economic terms, it would make a lot of sense. Assuming Willian goes for the rumoured 55-60 m (really, that much, I don't believe!!) and we get Martial for around Willian+10-15 million. In two years time, Willian's value will plummet to almost nothing; even a flop Martial will still fetch around 50 million+. Youth is overrated in football.

Surely not. Not like world class attacking talents like KdB, Lukaku, Salah did anything under Mourinho at a similar age. Would take Martial in a heart beat.

You can work with Martial. Les Ferdinand didn’t score 20 goals a season until he was 26. Ian Wright didn’t even reach the PL until he was 26. Drogba didn’t have a great season until he was 25 and playing for Guingamp in the French league. There’s plenty of examples of late blooming strikers.
August 2, 20187 yr Author Yes, it was only a "nothing" friendly, but after the horror-display yesterday, one or two undecided folks would probably vote to swap Morata for Martial.
August 2, 20187 yr I would have to say no at the moment. Obviously after this season the tale of the tape on Morata will be out, so it will be easier to decide then. I'm one of the believers that Morata is going to turn into a decent striker, although how little confidence he has right now is making me nervous. My biggest thing about Morata is idk if he has the mentality to ever be a top top striker for any big club or for Spain.
August 2, 20187 yr Author Most people here strongly believe that the problem is purely mental, whereas I think it is a little bit mental, but mostly skill-related, or the lack of it. (for a top club in the top league) Difficult to hone unskilled sportsmen when they are 25/26. Hope he proves me wrong.
