Given we have no competitive game for three months after the Europa final it doesn't really make too much difference if we officially get it frozen now or in early July, especially if it's looking likely to happen. If we dont get it froze until mid july, we wouldve been at a major disadvantage this window, how many targets will wait around until the last 2 or 3 weeks on the chance we get a ban lifted. Then we could be banned anyway the follwing summer.

I think that is when we are anticipating an update from CAS, although I suspect that is only an estimate based on previous cases. In the meantime the club does has the option to request that CAS applies for a freeze in the ban while our appeal is considered. However apparently we have not elected to take up that option so far.

If the reports are saying CAS could do it anyway off their own back, then why would we even ask, if its going to be frozen regardless, potentially Could be that we are waiting until after the final, could be waiting for the international window to open on June 9th. The board must surely know we cannot go into a season with this squad plus loanees. My god I read matt laws piece and he seems to cover all bases, he is not sticking his neck out at all. Simon Johnson in the Standard just regurgitates other peoples news, very rarely gets his own info
May 21, 20197 yr The stories are increasing that we have not lodged an official appeal with CAS. I also read today that we have 21 days after the FIFA appeal rejection to file with CAS. That would be 29 May. I have read a variety of stories about when we might hear that the ban is frozen upon appeal. The stories are all over the place from several days, to a few weeks, to a couple of months. No one seems to know. A couple of assumptions (dangerous, I know....) 1) I assume Chelsea don't want the ban. I think this is obvious. They could get the ban reduced to one window (winter) if the ban were to be frozen and they could buy in the summer while the appeal is considered. 2) The fact that they didn't appeal immediately in order to get the earliest possible clarity on whether they can buy players this summer means (to me) that they are strongly considering the idea of serving the ban. There are a possible reasons why: They don't believe the appeal will be successful at any level They don't believe CAS would freeze the ban in time to negotiate and buy the players they want before the window closes. They haven't been able to lay the groundwork to purchase the players they want in time to get the deals done They have indications that they won't be able to get the players they want because teams will jack up the price knowing how desperate we are to buy while ban is frozen They may be looking to sack Sarri this summer (or hope he accepts a job elsewhere) and bring in Lampard & Morris, and that having them operate the first year under a transfer ban would lower the expectations of everyone creating a less pressurized environment in which to gain a year of experience in the PL and CL.

Some good points there. To add, i read that it is 21 days from when we get fifa's rejection back in writing, as we cant to CAS without it. So if we yet to receive that, then that could be what is causing the delay. Edited May 21, 20197 yr by big blue
May 21, 20197 yr appears we have not appealed yet as we are waiting for the written reasons off FIFA.

So we're held hostage basically, as FIFA have no interest in having their punishment overturned or reduced by someone else. No team will wait for us to get this sorted - if they get an offer on a player we may be looking at from another club that meets their value, they will sell and not wait for us to get the ban sorted. We are already behind all the other teams who are able to obtain players. We have, in effect, already started serving the ban...…...
May 22, 20197 yr Would be excellent if the club released a statement on their intents and how everything looks. Wake up club!

May 22, 20197 yr To be honest, serving the ban this year is beginning to grow on me. Maybe we could use this summer to have a huge reshuffle behind the scenes, we seem to have started already with Cech. Once all of that is done, we can plan ahead and scout targets etc for next year. Theres young players returning from loan, maybe give one or two players a go? They will feel like new additions. We can take the ban now and turn it into our favour. The only thing is Sarri. He seems to be on thin ice, despite achieving good results.

However it can only work if we make Eden see out his deal, while i certainly don't think we will plummet to midtable without him, we will be literally pining our hopes on Pulisic not only hitting the ground running but going up a gear from what we saw at Dortmund if we want to make a really good season (or Tammy doing a Harry Kane).
May 23, 20197 yr If the ban stays in place, by the time Chirstmas roles around i want to see: Kepa Azpi Rudiger Luiz Emerson Jorginho Kante RLC Pulisic Tammy Hudson-Odoi Throw in Reece James a few times too and that look a good team to take into the following window and build on. Realistically we'll see: Kepa Azpi Rudiger Luiz Alonso Jorginho Kante Barkley Pedro Giroud Willian

May 23, 20197 yr Just a thought - I think there's a good chance we're using delay tactics here and won't appeal to CAS until the last minute. Reason being, they then have a small window of time to make a decision, and if they can't get this done, it's likely that they will suspend the band until they've sorted things out, which would mean we can sign players in the summer. If the ban gets frozen, we might have an exciting transfer window because we could, in theory, spend 3 windows worth in one summer. Especially with the best part of £100 million available from the (likely) Hazard sale!
May 23, 20197 yr This article suggests that there is a reason we might be stallng with CAS: https://metro.co.uk/2019/05/23/chelsea-might-accept-transfer-ban-bid-see-reduced-9658111/

May 23, 20197 yr If Hazard leaves and we are serving the ban, we will be left with 3 options on the wing - Pedro, Willian, and Pulisic. Hopefully CHO will be able to recover quickly enough to be involved as a 4th option for a decent chunk of the season. Of those first 3 I think Pedro would realistically start the season as the 3rd choice, so I would expect Pulisic and Willian starting most games. Willian and Pedro have 1 more year on their respective contracts. Assuming that the transfer ban is served by summer of 2020 I don't see either of them getting extended and they will likely leave for free at the end of their contracts. Depending on how CHO is progressing we will then have the option to bring in either new starters or backups in those positions. I imagine most of us hope to see Pulisic/CHO starting in the 2 wing positions starting 2020-21 season. Giroud will probably start next season as first choice. With that in mind it is highly doubtful that we extend Higuaín. Most likely Bats and Tammy will be brought back from loan as alternatives.
