April 13, 20206 yr Gianluca Vialli: Ex-Chelsea striker and manager gets pancreatic cancer all-clear https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52274079 Former Chelsea striker and manager Gianluca Vialli has been given the all-clear from pancreatic cancer. The 55-year-old ex-Italy forward said in 2018 he had recovered from cancer before announcing last year that he was dealing with the disease again. "Gianluca Vialli has been given the all-clear following a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer," said Chelsea. "Amazing news." Vialli is currently working as part of the Italy national team set-up. As a player, he was at Cremonese and Sampdoria before moving to Juventus, where he won the Serie A title and the Champions League. Vialli joined Chelsea in 1996 and was named player-manager following the sacking of Ruud Gullit in February 1998. He went on to lead the Blues to victory in the League Cup, Uefa Cup Winners' Cup and Uefa Super Cup in the same year. He also guided Chelsea to victory in the 2000 FA Cup Final and Charity Shield Vialli, who made 59 appearances for Italy, Great news.
April 14, 20206 yr Great news, never seen a forward with movement and runs that he made, at the end of his career when he joined us, but watching him then, you could tell he was some player in his pomp, never forget the reception we gave him at end of 97 cup final when he came on. "Vialli Vialli"
April 14, 20206 yr Fantastic news. That is one of the worst forms of the disease. He is following in the footsteps of Wilko Johnson in beating the odds. Hope to see him back at the Bridge in the future!
April 14, 20206 yr I have never heard of anyone recovering from cancer of the pancreas, it would be interesting to know what worked for him.
June 12, 20215 yr How good was it to see Luca on the Italian bench last night looking healthy. Along with the events of this evening it really brings home just what is important in life.
