This loyalty deserves rewarding, especially after taking a pay cut, which almost no player in world football would do. I doubt this ownership can reward such loyalty though, just look how they treat the fans.

Really glad this has happened.

March 14Mar 14 I am glad Reece has signed, he is a brilliant player. He is one of a handful of genuinely world class players we have,.I am however not so generous with my praise on the pay cut. My baseline expectation is that any chelsea player who claims to love the club, should be willing to bleed blue and fight for the cause for free. I am pretty sure than everyone on here would take a salary cut to play for Chelsea FC. A multi millionaire who is still being paid eye watering amounts of money does not deserve the high praise that sone give, for doing something which should be the baseline.Fair play to him - he didnt hold us to ransom like some other mercenaries have in the past. But he is still reportedly earning around the figure of a million pounds per month. So not as if he is going to be stretched....

So not as if he is going to be stretched....I get what you’re saying, and let’s be fair maybe after the injuries he felt he owed the club.He does love the club, his family are CFC, he’s been here his entire life other than game experience loans. He is adored by the fans sometimes money is not the most important thing but he’s still got to get paid.Is he getting a very nice wage? of course.Could he have got more money and garunteed CL elsewhere? Yes.But he stayed, to thank the club and fans for firstly making him a pro, then a European and World Champion, and then helping him through injury. Now he wants to help us get back to the top. That’s about a loyal as it gets these days.

Let’s play devils advocate for a second; why would he take a pay cut at his peak, when the owners strategy is preventing the club from competing? Saw something interesting in the press a couple of weeks ago, most people would have missed it. However it reminded me of some off the books $28m contract an NBA player got with a tree planting company. Reece’s James dad is supposedly now supporting and coaching Dastan Satpaev as he prepares for his summer move. Let’s play Devils advocate for a second, Chelsea puts Reece James on a £190k/w 6 year deal that is heavily incentivised, his Dad gets £3m annual contract to mentor and coach all those kids they are signing. Come summer if Enzo demands £250k/w, they will tell me James took a pay cut. If he kicks off, they can give his family a lucrative contract off the books. Find it very odd we have cut wages but agents fees keeps going up. The press run Reece is on about taking a pay cut is very odd.

The press run Reece is on about taking a pay cut is very odd. With his injury record, it seems reasonable to offer the security of a long term contract but at a lower salary than previous contract.I think also the fact that he has been here since he was 6 years old, and clearly wants to be a "one club" man will have been a factor in the negotiations - again in BlueCo's favour. The advantage for BlueCo is in tying down a player that is just about the only one in the whole squad that has any affinity with the established (pre-BlueCo) fanbase. They absolutely need the legacy fans onboard, and giving an injury prone player a long contract is probably in their eyes a good value proposition to secure this.I don't think his actual ability is as much of a factor as it should be. I suspect they'd be quite happy to flog Reece and play Gusto if it wouldn't cause uproar in the fanbase. This seems a win/win contract to me.Capology btw have it down as £200K a week basic - same as Fofana. We can only hope that they do in fact listen to the fans and know what we want and how we feel.Hopefully this is a good sign. LR has hinted at a strategy change in summer signings… more experience. Maybe they are listening, maybe they convinced James of this and maybe this is me just wishful thinking.
March 14Mar 14 BBC SportReece James new contract: Chelsea right back is best in w...Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior says he "can't stop smiling" as the club had "secured the best footballer in the world in his position" with right-back Reece James signing a new six-year deal.

This is what needs to be done if we at all want to remain competitive.

March 14Mar 14 I love him for committing his entire career to us. May he continue improving despite the circus we're in. The best RB in England (even if he's always shoehorned in the middle for some reason?)
