You can even add Aguero to that list and those are just 7 players for 5 positions. Foden is pretty much guaranteed heavy minutes. Let's have a scenario where we play 442 and we have kai and Werner as front 2 and you have Borja as 3rd option. I guarantee you that it is easy to convince Borja to stay.

You’d think with the departure of Lukaku a path for impressing Tuchel had presented itself. Personally, I think he should be happy West Ham are willing to take him on and we pocket 30m towards a new striker. Good business for us and a good move for the kid as well. This one's really odd. I could somewhat understand it with Colwill if we do sign 3 CB's but we've binned Lukaku and turned down the chance to sign Ronaldo, the pathway is pretty cleat for Broja to make an impression.

And will very likely feature 40+ times for us this season and gets to play in and compete for the Champions League as well as the Premier League. If you can't accept that you simply can't "pre-order" a spot in the XI for a side like that you got no business being here anyways. Gallagher is pretty much guaranteed to play a lot of minutes here. We have only 3 really midfielder, one is injured all the time (Kante).

If we sign a striker this summer then yeah I'd agree but at the minute if Tuchel wants to play a proper number 9 in a game he'd be the only choice.

That type of mentality doesn't belong in high level sport. If he was in Brentford then I'd agree, not in this current Chelsea era. If a kid thinks like that, then he might as well quit the sport and get a normal job
July 18, 20224 yr Sounds like it’s being driven by him and not us, so is what it is. Clearly not got enough belief in his ability or patience. F him if he doesn’t want to be here are fight. I just hope we rinse West Ham or get some type of Rice ‘agreement’ in place. We can’t be seen as pushovers.
July 18, 20224 yr Werner hasn't played striker in ages, his competition is Kai who is not a real 9 and Michy who is terrible, there is no better time to nail down a spot. Doing a Lukaku if he leaves.
July 18, 20224 yr What we are seeing is the difference in attitudes of the young players we develop. Our academy is one of the best in world football, and attracts many of the top young talent. However we cannot keep them all happy and not all of them come because they dream or playing for us they dream of a top flight career. Thus the likes of Guehi leave because they don't want to fight Sarr for a spot behind Rudiger, Broja leaves because he does not want to fight Werner and Havertz. On the other hand guys like Chalobah and Gallagher take the loans, show patience and belief in their abilities to crack this side and get rewarded. All depends on attitude and dedication, but even so we cannot keep all our youngsters and if we can get good fees for them in the end is good business. At least Connor appears to be staying.

Totally agree. If ever a young prospect had an opportunity, you would think it was there for Broja once Lukaku left. Of course we don't know what discussions have taken place between Tuchel and Broja since his return from loan. Perhaps Tuchel feels that he doesn't fit well in the system? Either way assuming we go with Kai as first choice in the central forward position, who would be the backup if he gets injured?

We let Kurt go there on the cheap. Sounds like 25mill up front with 5mill add ons, basically the same as Kurt.

Maybe there's something in what @bisright1is saying that we just won't have an out and out 9. I guess if true it's opponent depending. If we're playing Southampton or a team who push stupidly high I guess Werner but some games maybe Sterling and others maybe Pulisic (i remember the Juve game last season we basically told to run around in that position while Callum and the wingbacks did the damage). Maybe Tuchel has looked at City last two season's (and Liverpool with Firmino/Jota) and is looking to beat them at their own game at a time they are both ironically going down the out and out 9 route.

How is Broja meant to get minutes when he is competing with Havertz, Sterling and Werner for a “9”. And he probably knows from the manager’s treatment of Tammy that Mount and Pulisic might even come ahead of him in the pecking order. 1 hour ago, Socrates said: Well if Broja doesn’t fancy his chances of dislodging Werner or Batshuayi in the squad, then he’s right to move on. Good business for us and a good move for the kid as well. it’s bad business though; you aren’t getting a decent forward for £30m. Now every club knows we need a forward, their prices have gone up. With that also comes increased wages also. We will end up overpaying for dross.
July 18, 20224 yr Given we are getting 30mill for Broja we really should have signed Gabriel Jesus for 45mill. Would be a big upgrade on Havertz and Werner in the 9 imo.
July 18, 20224 yr No way we should sell until we have a back up in. I assume the reason West Ham are willing to pay 30m is due to a lack of quality in the transfer market

The "best career" for Broja would have been fighting for that No. 9 spot because had he establish himself well, he'd be an immediate superstar rather than pushing for a move out of Chelsea FC. Instead you think him going to West Ham is the "best career he can get".

Moyes will probably use him as part of front 2 in a system that suit him much better than us. If he can smash it with west ham and maybe score 20 goals. He will be considered one of the top st in pl and all big clubs will queue up for his signature. If he stay with us, at best he will be back up for kai. I am not even sure he is suited to play as no 9 for us. Two more established st had struggled under Tuchel.

I said before there is no reason for timo to stay here but I think it got something to do with his salary. He will be better of going back to Germany but not sure many German club can afford his salary. About kai, I personally think Kai was very good for us. He may not be the most clinical (outside 6 yard box his finishing is just garbage) but due to how tuchel setup this team we need our 9 to "knit" the team and this is where kai really shine.
