Players to sell (evergreen "deadwood" thread)

Very optimistic with some of those fees there Scott!

I also take personal offence to Moses being lumped in with the 'deadwood' considering he is the greatest right wing-back in Premier League history (not counting the 90s when ridiculous people like McManaman or Anderton were played in that area).

I'm not sure we can be particularly confident of any of the players we no longer have any use for bringing in any kind of transfer fee:

Batshuayi - Largely useless at multiple clubs across the continent (bar Dortmund), not fancied by three consecutive Chelsea managers, one year left on his contract. Probably released on a free. £0m

Emerson - Despite Frank having the ability (and tendency) to resurrect players from the metaphorical graveyard it seems fairly clear that he doesn't fancy Emerson, it also seems that he isn't good enough to consistently start as the leftmost man in a back four. Seems to be attracting some attention from Serie A. I imagine the best we can hope for is our money back. £10m (optimistically)

Zappacosta - Returning from a nine-month injury. Who knows what state he's in? £?m

Piazon - Hasn't played for us in eight years. Hasn't played more than 20 games for a top-flight side in five. God knows what his current contract status is. He's probably our longest-serving player. Could try and spin him as a youngster despite the fact he's 26. £0m

Drinkwater - Clearing something wrong in his head, was a decent player in his day. I hope we can get him the help he needs - considering the man was a key part of the side who prevented Tottenham and Arsenal from winning the league, we owe him. £0m, likely a loss.

Musonda - Injured a lot. Hopefully he comes through it. Hopefully we support him. £0m, likely a loss.

van Ginkel - Injured a lot. Hopefully he comes through it. Hopefully we support him. Apparently good at PSV. £?m

Rahman - Genuinely forgot he played for us. Has started 22 league games since he left five seasons ago. Two years left on his contract, is also 26. £0m.

from my optimism to your pessimism, maybe we'll be somewhere in the middle.

I had genuine high hopes for MVG.

How much are we asking for them?

Depends on the players, but instead of say holding out for 30 odd million for someone like Bats, I would rather just sell him off for 15-20 just to get him off our books and save the wages. Same for someone like Bakayoko.

But we have no idea of the value the club have attached to those players, it could be 15m, you are blaming them for something you know nothing about.

We do have some idea, because there have been articles written about it. Bakayoko for example hasn't moved yet because of the fee we are asking for, and same with bats and emerson as well

No, no we don't. An article written about it means sh*t.

Errr It obviously does mean something dickie, but it looks like we're not going to agree on this so i'd rather not waste my energy

So I wonder how many we'll be able to move on ?

From the loan army, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Moses, Rahman, Blackman, Baker, Miazga, Kenedy, Brown and Piazon are all clearly surplus to requirements (I'd keep Moses personally)

From this season's first team squad, I don't think many tears would be shed if Arrizabalaga, Cabellero, Rudiger, Christensen, Emerson, Alonso, Barkley, Jorginho and Batshuayi were playing elsewhere next season. I'd probably also add Kante to the exit list while we can still get a sizeable fee for him. He's had a terrible season for a "world class" player, and I really don't see how he even fits into Lampard's idea of midfield.

Realistically, I can't see it being more than 5 in and 5 out ... I don't think there is enough time for any more deals to get done ...

What for?.

Kepa 20 millions

Rudiger 20 millions

Christensen 10-15 millions

Zouma 25-30 millions

Emerson 5-10 millions

Kante 75-100 millions

CHO  30-35 millions

Tammy Abraham 35-40 millions

Solid 200 + millions to strengthen the D.

Some of the players we should just let go on a free, save more on their wages than their transfer fees.

If we let them go, we have pay them compensation though, which is going to be close to remaining wages owed.

The only way players would agree to forfeit wages owed, is if they got a big signing on fee at their new club to compensate. That is what has happened with Sanchez and United.

Even a minimal loan fee, and subsidising wages, would be better than releasing them leaving on a free.

I think we might struggle to get hard cash for a lot of players this summer, there is going to need to be some creative deals, and there will be ins and outs, right through until the window shuts in October.

That could honestly be the worst sell list I’ve seen to date.

Pedro and willian have now gone.

i would think

bakayoko

moses ( though is decent and could be used as good squad depth)

emerson

drinkwater

Zappacosta

will leave

I think Drinkwater, Zappacosta and Bakayako will be very hard to sell.

4th winger or wing back option if James/Azpi are out

Mount, Werner, and potentially Havertz can all play wide, and i dont think having a 3rd choice right back should really be on the cards, especially one on biggish wages.

If we were that short on right backs, we can always turn to the academy, Livermento is decent apparently.

Bakayoko is attracting interest from PSG and is offering to take a wage cut at AC MIlan to avoid coming back to SB.

We are asking £19 -20m.

Didn't that rumour go around a year or so ago too?

Perhaps we're about to find out Baka is eminently suitable for PSG's playing style. Perhaps not.

We were probably trying to sell him last year as well.

Good list.

Kante and Abraham would certainly generate a decent amount of funds for us to help reinforce the defensive line and bring in a new GK.

I would be absolutely gutted to see Kante leave however. On par with Essien.

Loftus-Cheek would be another good sell option but he would be good to feature for the occasional cup game.

Yes that's all fair comment. Moses is a decent player all the same. Certainly better than some of the others we are hopefully going to part ways with !

Actually Bakayoko is easy to sell, the issue is with the fee as Milan want to spend no more than 20m and really want him but Marina is holding out for more.

Zappacosta im not sure about, but you're right on Danny being hard to sell, not sure even a championship team will take him at this point
