I think that's the only scenario having such a world class untouchable works against us. We lost two top prospects because they didn't fancy their chances and I imagine no one of note would come here just incase Reece gets injured. With Chilwell it's different, as good as he is he's not at such a level so it's easier to imagine Cucurella fancying his chances.
November 3, 20223 yr This just reinforces we were right to buy another left back, ok Cucurella may not be as good as Chilwell offensively yet at least he is quicker about the pitch than Alonso.
November 3, 20223 yr We got too many injury prone players we will never be able to build a team around them Its unfortunate but its time to move on from Kante,Chilwell ,Pulisic even Koulibaly It seem that half the team can't put a run of games together without picking up some type of injury

But over an extraordinary long season we could have offered another RB at least 15 games a season, maybe more with James's injury record, i don't see why we couldn't have just brought in one of our youngsters, full back position has always suited the younger players.

We did, but both of them have suffered injuries (in Lamptey's case, a really serious one that has really harmed his development) which have curtailed their availability since they left us.
November 3, 20223 yr Poor Chilwell - he must be gutted to have a bad injury two seasons in a row ... As Cucurella is now first choice left back, and off the grid for a centre back option, I think it is time we recalled Colwill as CB cover from Brighton. With the state of our defensive injuries, he might even play more for us now than for his loan club !

Some will say it's easy to judge bad decisions with hindsight, but collectively those bad decisions make us look like complete newcomers. Newcastle have had a summer of good decisions, the kind of decisions we should be making, they are the new Chelsea by the looks of it, and were the new barcodes. It's going to take the next 3 transfer windows to get back to where we need to be, but that's only if we make the correct decisions, and i'm not confident we will.

I'm not sure why the club felt it was OK to only have Koulibaly as our LCB and as for Colwill I am not sure why he thought sitting on Brighton's bench would be better than learning off of both Silva and Koulibaly. It's not even hindsight I was complaining about this all summer when Romano first broke the news Colwill wants to leave.

November 3, 20223 yr If anything @cocowe are more like Arsenal used to be. Signing players who are well past their best (Willian= Aubameyang), overrated (Pepe=Sterling), or downgrades (Metarsacker = Cucurella and Koulibaly)

November 4, 20223 yr Terrible news. Don't expect to see him until sometime in Feb. Cucurella should get a longer run in the team in what is his better position of LB or LWB.
November 4, 20223 yr Moments like these is why we bought Cucu. Now hopefully, Potter uses him in LB. Hope Chilwell recovers soon.
November 4, 20223 yr I'll also say it again that all these injuries are the fault of FIFA, UEFA and FA forcing players to play in a congested fixture list just to have a 'Winter World Cup'.

Not only this World Cup, but players have been playing without a meaningful rest since they restarted the league during COVID, playing the CL in August, then the season with less than a month of rest and the Eurocup followed. It's been 2-3 seasons non-stop. However, we have been hit more by injuries than others, let's say Arsenal or City.
