They were self training due to the possibility of going back training at any minute and then there's the obvious mental side of those times. For me a rest is not only not training or playing football but being in a position to totally forget about it. Edited November 4, 20223 yr by Argo

Well, we've got to 3 finals more than Arsenal, so that accounts for a few more competitive games. I think that there are number showing that we and Liverpool are the teams that have played more competitive matches in the last season. This has to account for part of it, but possibly is just part of the story.

RMH already mentioned it but yeah, we have gone deep into a lot of cup competitions over the past couple of years compared to Arsenal. City I think is obvious since they have the most depth in the league.

November 5, 20223 yr Confirmed: Tore his hamstring but thankfully doesn’t require surgery so speculation it will be around 3 months. 2 months will be the WC so only misses a month.
November 5, 20223 yr Bad news. Once those hammies go they seem to repeat. Hope it doesn’t impact his pace.

November 5, 20223 yr this sick fixtures cost us a lot its to many games that we played and tbh its better that city knock out chelsea from carling cup to play less games in 2023. its better this way to focus on premier and ucl and get time to rest players. Edited November 5, 20223 yr by Mário César

Are we playing more games than your City or Liverpool? I even reckon the Europa/Conference League teams will end up playing more games. I do wonder though if the demands of the formation might be a reason for the injuries. Livramento & Lamptey have also been out for a significant period of time playing under the back 3 formation. They both also happen to be WBs.

We and Liverpool played more games than City and other teams last season, and our players have been playing nonstop for 3 seasons with players at national teams, which other teams don’t have. So yes, we are playing more games than other teams. Liverpool is also hit by injuries as far as I know.
February 10, 20233 yr Man city interested in him for some reason. Wonder if they'll spend the 90m we'd demand?

Maatsen has been named Championship player of the month, & has 4 goals & 5 assists in 23 games with 4 MOTM performances. The prudent thing might be to shift one of our current LBs & promote him, from the little I have seen he is destined to be a top player.

If he and Hall continue to kick on, it might well be "all change" in the left back position. Not sure we'd find a buyer for Cucurella though, at least not without taking a large loss.

He does look a quality prospect, its the kind of succession planning we should be doing.

February 10, 20233 yr I wouldn't consider selling Chilwell unless silly money is offered. When fit I think he's sensational, pops up with goals, assists, and does more defensively than I think people give him credit for. He might not lock a winger down like Reece can, but he's sneaky fast and positionally sound.

When he and James are both fit there's not many better full back pairings in the league. If he can stay fit after his latest injury, then he will be a key player for us.
February 10, 20233 yr He should be one of the very last players we consider selling. I hope he stays for a long time.

February 10, 20233 yr Wouldn't even consider it for any money. I've already had enough of watching Cucurella run around like a headless chicken at LB. We are still yet to see the best of Chilwell in a Chelsea shirt. If he can get fit and back to the levels we were seeing before his injury, then it will be hard to find anybody better.
