I remember when it was 80p to get in the shed then if i was with my dad we used to transfer to the benches in the west stand for maybe 50p each - i thought we were well off to be able to do that.

We used to get up 4 hours before we went to bed to queue on a freezing cold Sunday morning for tickets to see Chelsea play Orient in the FA cup 5th round. A week later we traveled to Brisbane Rd and queued to get in the ground on what must have been the coldest day ever only  to see Chelsea get stuffed 3-2. Oh the joys of 70's football.

I was a season ticket holder in the west stand from 71/72. The seats did have a very solid wooden back to them. I know this because my father used to run up the tops of them when making his way to the exit at the back. I would have been 10 years old at the time and had to learn quickly to keep up with him.

£15 is quite reasonable to watch a game that was not previously scheduled to be live on tv or part of an existing subscription package.  Yes £10 would be better, but its nice to have the option to watch.

If I was going to go after anything, I'd go after the excessive tax on petrol in the UK, or 7 day a week congestion charge, or paying to use a bathroom, or paying to park, or paying to park at a hospital.  A round of golf is £40-100 on a weekend at a reasonable course.   Doesn't it cost more to go to a movie?

Illegal streams does not seem the answer to me, but to each their own.

The maintenance fee for the building where I live has gone up €10 per month, could we please protest against that as well, now we're casting a very wide net  ?

I’m quite happy about the £15 thing personally. I’d like it to be cheaper but I’d like everything to be cheaper. Just happy that I can watch all of our matches now without relying on a terrible link that freezes every 2 seconds

According to the article above Sky and BT aren't happy with PPV.

I just think £15 massively over evalutes the product being sold. 

A sky sports package for the 10 months of the season costs £220. 

This gives you access to 146 games. 

So Sky value 90 minutes of football, with pre, half time, and post match analysis at around £1.50. 

Now i understand they cannot sell a ppv event for that price, a subscription model allows the price per game to be cheaper, as there is an almost guaranteed amount of money coming in.

However Sky and BT are selling an inferior product, (no analysis), for 10 times the price customers are already paying for a match. 

I think thats outrageous. £5 a game wouldve been acceptable for what is being offered, and in comparion to what the rest of the world pay to watch premier league football. 

Hopefully it doesn't take off, at £15, i cant see there being much of an uptake considering the ease and quality of illegal streams nowadays. 

Going forward, i think you should be able to buy a season ticket for your club that allows you watch every game, with maybe a higher tier subscription to include x amount of fixtures of your choice, that you redeem throughout the season.

Tailored subscription packages at fair prices would greatly reduce illegal stream users in my opinion.

What I don't understand is if Sky and BT do not profit from the PPV games then why are they facilitating the games through their subscription services? 

If the idea was purely to make the games available to fans why not make the broadcasts available through as many means as possible? Such as paying for the right to watch the game via your club's official website, via YouTube, via the official Premier League website? 

Are we to believe the only way these games could be broadcast is through channels that already carry a subscription service? So fans without Sky and BT subscriptions effectively have no access to the PPV games? 

It's extremely telling that they're refusing to release the viewing figures for the PPV games, the only reason not to do that as a broadcaster is because viewing figures are so low.

Safe to assume that PPV matches in their current format are likely to be scrapped.

But highlights from the matches are made almost instantaneously available through means other than Sky or BT such as YouTube or Match of the Day. 

Despite what BT or Sky are saying there must be an element of profit to them hosting the PPVs beyond "covering their costs". 

Most clubs have inhouse TV channels, if the end goal was purely to make the games available to the fans there's a lot of other ways around it other than the PPV model they settled on.

That was the only game my sister has ever gone to, she chose well.

i must have been about 14/15 when i started going on my own , 1973 ish think i remember it being around 80p in at the Shed- but i could be wrong

That's still 500k revenue per game...bearing in mind the average attendance of a PL game is roughly 40k anyway I think this might end up staying. Eventually people will get bored of complaining. 

Maybe they change the price, I'd pay it if it was a 5er. But I would question whether the average attendance would be over 100k if it was a 5er which it needs to be to be worth the price drop.

I'm 59 Driller. I went to my first game in the 1970/71 season at 9 years of age. It cost 3 shillings for juniors to get in. We had a black and white television and I was amazed at how green the pitch was when I got to the top of the stairs of the Bovril entrance. The game was the first league match at the Bridge after we had won the FA Cup the previous season. We played Derby County and Ian Hutchinson scored both goals in a 2-1 victory. Decimalization happened later in the season and in the new fangled money it cost 15p to get in. Adults 30p.

I was transfixed from day one and we went on to win the Cup Winners Cup later that season. I had started supporting the best team in the world and they were winning silverware every season. The world was great and the fashions were superb, it was the time of the original Skinheads and button down shirts, tonic suits and brogues were the go. The club was even planning on building a whole new stadium. The following season we reached the League Cup Final at Wembley and I got tickets. The atmosphere inside Wembley before the game was the most exciting thing I had ever witnessed and the way the fans were that day stayed with me for a long time. Mainly because we didn't get anywhere near winning anything for decades after that.
