Barca and De Jong have got themselves in a pickle. De Jong is no Gareth Bale on his last contract and when the club doesn't want you, then its a divorce on the cards just like when the player hands in a transfer request.

So if we are the only bidder and assuming we could talk De Jong into believing in Chelsea and wanting to live in London then we would have some bargaining power. But if De Jong is a top player, and I think he is, then the likes of Bayern and PSG and Juventus even Man C will also be keeping an eye on him and he will sell for his market value.

Personally I can't see how Barca will fit raphina, dembele and silva all in on the right side but that is certainly their problem. 

De Jong would fancy his chances of getting into any team and I think Barca are making a mistake but that could be our gain.

How on earth is Barcelona on 500k per week...he is not that good we have to be fair. If he doesn't want to cut wages we are surely not giving him that same deal. Manchester United is his place if he wishes to get a steal of a deal.

Because he agreed to "heavily" reduced wages during the covid years to help Barca out. He apparently re-signed a new contract back then that made him earn those deferred wages from this season on - that's why Barca is keen on selling him (saving those funds that they told him he'd earn later) and why deJong has little incentive to move away.

I would assume De Jong can seek redress with some tribunal or law court for payment if Barcelona don't pony up those deferred wages. Assuming it's all in writing, that shouldn't be too difficult, should it? It would sour the relationship though, all the more reason for De Jong to go elsewhere.

Well, he did sign a new contract that says (at least that's how I understood it) you will earn xyz from 2020-22 and then 500.000k per week from 22/23 onwards. What will he sue them for? It's what makes the whole thing so complicated. They can't kick him out of the club (without paying him what he's owned) but they sure love to apply heavy media pressure onto him. Quite unethical ofc but it's football business we're talking about after all. I guess that's also why they start playing him as a CB 😄

It would of course depend on what has been agreed, but if it's indeed how you described it, I would bet a good lawyer would be able to get a good arrangement IF De Jong is to leave as of 22-23, as a compromise and a sort of "fuk off" bonus. But seeing that he doesn't want to leave, as the message has consistently been, the whole point is moot.

They're going to have to get him off their books, If we want him I think it'll happen quite soon.
