Raphinha to Chelsea

While the delays are frustrating, we potentially have other options if Raphinha falls through. On the other hand, Leeds are supposedly growing increasingly angry with both Barca and player as they need the transfer completed before they can use the money for their own transfer targets. I suspect they will give Barca a deadline if they haven't already, so I will be surprised if this drags on much longer.

They should be getting the Phillips money to spend soon at least.

that Raphina prefers Barcelona isn't really a big deal to me

if he signs for us he will find out that he made the right decision, especially as i expect Barcelona to be very average

you really think that players that get bought by other teams always have that particular club as their dream club?

I also don't think that Raphina is so unique that if this deals falls through we cannot find a similar player

Have to agree,it's now starting to get on my nerves, this club is in no-mans land at present, all we have is players we already have which some aren't good enough or youngsters who will need time,I feel they need to step back and rethink things.

Sorry don't want him now,we shouldn't allow anyone to muck us around, and Todd should withdraw the bid and move on.

True. But I imagine they are worried that Barca will lowball or pay in installments if the deal with us falls through. I can see that happening.

Oh for sure, or a loan deal like they did with Wolves and Traroe lol.

Azpi wanted to stay at Marseille and only joined us because of the financial needs of the club. Cesc didn't even entertain us until Wenger said no to a reunion. Costa by all accounts was largely meh about coming here and was plotting his return to Spain early on. If we were that particular about things with those 3 we'd likely be on a 12 year title drought right now.

If Raphina delivers on the pitch he could be wearing a full Tottenham kit at home for all I'd care.

However, dialogue is ongoing between the clubs with a view to striking a compromise after Azpilicueta made it clear his preference was to move to the Premier League. Labrune told ESPN: “I have spoken to Chelsea’s sporting director and they are easy to deal with. We have told them the price and they will come back and agree it or not. We would much prefer the player to sign a new contract and extend his stay with us, but he wants to go to Chelsea and it’s a good club so we cannot stand in his way.”

It does not matter if the deadline is tomorrow or next week if rapinha preference is to join Barca. They can't do anything.

Yep, Argo was doing so well with that post; outpaced the CM, shimmied beyond the DM, dummied the CB, skipped around the keeper, then blazed it over the bar! 😒

He has 2 years left on his current deal with Leeds. If they wish to they can walk away unless Barca meet their asking price.

Yes they can walk away but that is useless for us. My point is they can't force him to join us.

Do you think Boehly knows that?

Feels like he's operating like American sport franchises do where they can buy and trade a player against their will

God you're an idiot. I'm sure a bloke who's just paid part of £4b doesn't know how the sport operates.....

Barcelona are about to close the deal for #Chelsea target Raphinha. They will pay around €60M for the winger.

I don't know

He's nearly as old as you and you're starting to struggle.

You also might want to have a read about how much Boehly has paid.  4B hasn't come out of his pocket he's not that rich and he isn't our majority share holder.

I don't suppose Clearlake Capital know or care much about football.  It's going to be a big learning curve this summer.

Agreeing a transfer fee before checking the player himself actually wants the move is as amateurish as it gets though.

oh poor barcelona, in 2 seasons time they will sell him for 20 million when they are in trouble again

Actually they agreed a deal to pay Leeds in installments. So in that scenario they would need that money just to pay Leeds what they still owe for him.

So assuming this goes through we will probably be back in for Dembele

Accept that meeting a player before you have agreed a deal with their club would be classed as tapping up...

Oh my sweet summer child.

There's not a player that has moved clubs in the last 50 years that hasn't spoken to their new club prior to their current club agreeing a fee.

Do you think we haven't spoken to Kounde, Sterling etc.   Clubs put the feelers out and know if a player is interested in a move before putting together a bid.

in this case Raphina agreed terms with Barca 4 months ago.

I didn't realise you were in the industry.

So that explains why despite the Kounde saga dragging on for over a year, his preference is to join Barca.

Couple questions.

1. How are they able to do this with the financial restrictions they are under?

2. If this is in installments, why would Leeds entertain that when we are offering a higher and full amount?

So your'e too thick to even read what I actually wrote. Seeing as your obviously hard of thinking, I'll write it in big letters, underline and bold it for you...

i think barcelona will have to play with a shirt similar to this where they can fit 6 or 7 sponsors on there so they will be able to pay player salaries if they keep on going spending money they don't really have

Supposedly it is installments. Leeds were not keen to do that, but I suspect they had to choose between that and possibly keeping an unhappy player.

We should see if other clubs are interested in Azpi and Alonso now. Or make Barcelona pay up front in cash.

You don't need to be.  You just need a functioning brain cell.  Just one would do.

No one even pretends to care about the regulations surrounding "tapping up"  it's not even an open secret anymore.

It's even at the point now where "super" agents such as Raiola r.i.p and Mendes etc are happy to go around trying to market their clients to clubs while they're still contracted by a parent club.

Finding out if Raphina had any interest in joining us before planning a move is the most basic of steps.

It's very rare and quite frankly embarrassing to agree a fee with a club for a player that has no interest in signing for you.  It just makes us look bad.
