Raphinha to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Even it fails, at least we hiked up the price and Barca has to pay with money that dont have, also can't see they keep Dembele if they just signed another attacker. If we learnt anything from Lukaku, if the player is that desperate to play for another club, don't bother.

What a farce and one hell of a wasted week

We had 3 players looking like signing

Now were being gazumped by spurs and a sh*t broke cheating barca

Joke city

Someone draw up a list of legit targets, Plenty more about

I think Sterling at least looks like its happening and De Ligt wants to come to us so it wasn't a complete waste of a week.

The biggest fools in this situation are all the players, including Raphina, who have made 'personal deals' with Barca knowing that the club is bankrupt. Either that or Barca's negotiating team must really be good.

Wonder if they will take a year or 2 years to ask him to take a salary cut?

Are we in for another winger at all? Not a fan of going into the season with just Sterling. (If his signing will even come to fruition)

Have to consider we are over stocked in that position already.

CHO, Werner, Pulisic, Ziyech and Mount for 2 positions. Add Sterling and that is a lot. We need to find new homes for a few of them. We ideally only need 4 or 5.

Ziyech maybe going to ac Milan. I personally would be happy with MDL, Sterling, ake, Kounde and Dembele. I’d see that as competitive. However we” ll never get all of them.

No, probably Ake and Sterling, maybe De Ligt. Other two I don't think so.

If we don't get Kounde and Dembele we will probably look at other options. Skriniar for example has been linked in defense, and possibly Cornet instead of Dembele.

I don't know

He's nearly as old as you and you're starting to struggle.

You also might want to have a read about how much Boehly has paid.  4B hasn't come out of his pocket he's not that rich and he isn't our majority share holder.

I don't suppose Clearlake Capital know or care much about football.  It's going to be a big learning curve this summer.

Agreeing a transfer fee before checking the player himself actually wants the move is as amateurish as it gets though.

I don't think you're on the right end of this one HC. Almost all, in fact quite probably absolutely all, of us here know how US sport operates so why shouldn't an intelligent, diligent, American understand how ours does? Why shouldn't any old American who takes an interest in football understand it come to that? Of course TB knows what a selling club can and can't do. I've got a feeling you also recognise that he must do.

Now, I don't say that TB likes our system. It's a safe bet that more of us see merit in the college/draft/trade structure than Yanks do in the academy/transfer approach.

Also, I dislike the way @dkw made his point, but he did say that TB paid 'part' of the purchase price.

Accept that meeting a player before you have agreed a deal with their club would be classed as tapping up...

The 'tapping up' rules seem to be falling into disuse but, in any case, they don't exist in the same way in Europe as they have done here.

Couple questions.

1. How are they able to do this with the financial restrictions they are under?

2. If this is in installments, why would Leeds entertain that when we are offering a higher and full amount?

Have Chelsea made it public that they are offering to pay the transfer fee in full? Granted clubs like ours will sometimes offer to pay in full as a negotiating tactic though I haven't seen it if we have this time. To be fair mind you I don't read Twitter or other places where things like this may become known.

So your'e too thick to even read what I actually wrote. Seeing as your obviously hard of thinking, I'll write it in big letters, underline and bold it for you...

Why so aggressive DKW?

You are obviously in the right about TB's understanding of the way the transfer market operates, but I don't get the need to throw insults around. They don't help the discussion and only make it less likely the other person will accept and admit they are wrong.

Proper can't wait for these guys to go bankrupt, kicking the can down the road again.

They won't though. Them and Spanish football generally is bent. Always has been. We've had this all before with Real Madrid. Biggest club in world football. Of course they are with their king underwriting their debt.

Leeds have stated they prefer our bid as there is far more money up front. Probably using our bid to give Barcelona a gentle push.

In defence of @dkw, hazardouschoice has been unpleasant (putting it politely) from the word go. It took me about 5 of his posts to put him on ignore, unfortunately people quote him, so he still pollutes my eyes.

We should f**k Barca over, by offering 60million for Lewa, just to see their lemon faces, where will Barca get 100million from?, they could just about hire a pedalo, down Benidorm way....

Perhaps this is the strategy ?

Get them to overpay on Raphinha, so that they don't have the funds to sign Lewandowski ,who then becomes a cheaper target for us ?

I'm still curious who our "marquee" signing will be ...

More importantly I hope Barcelona still have enough funds to sign Azpi and Alonso, so we can do a proper rebuild at the back.

Thanks charierre,

Sounds from that like we might still be paying over time but with bigger payment or payments up front.

I see. In fact I did read another post later in the thread saying pretty much what you say here. Let's hope everyone gets all of the aggression out of their system eventually and decides they prefer just to take part in the conversations.

Amazing how we got sh*t for years for ruining football because we had an owner putting his own money in, yet Barcelona have sold the family heirlooms and that's acceptable...

Ok thanks.

I understand getting fed up with such behaviour, It feeds on the reaction however so I say let's try not to feed it. I won't pretend that I always manage to keep cool myself but I do believe we should all try.
