Massively overpaid though. - Koulibaly - 7/10 - Supposedly a quality CB, but had a dodgy start and looks a little slow and cumbersome for this league. Looking a downgrade on Rudiger so far. Time will tell if he adjusts and improves. - Fofana - 7.5/10 - I honestly know nothing about this guy. Apparently he's highly rated so I've given it 7.5, because we were short in defence, but I have no idea if he's actually any good or not, or if we've been had. - Zakaria - 7.5/10 - Low risk signing on loan. Adds depth to midfield. If he's sh*t, he can go back to juventus. - Chukwuemeka - 5/10 - Could potentially be good in the future, but 20m for someone with very little experience and 1 year left on his deal is crazy. Likely going to turn out to be a poor one. - Aubameyang - 6.5/10 - Not overly expensive, but hes 33 already and I just can't see him making much of a difference when we have such a poor overall attack throughout the whole squad. Who is going to provide him with chances, besides Sterling? I'll be surprised if he gets 10 PL goals. - Sterling - 8.5/10 - Didn't really want him if I'm honest, but he's done well so far. He can't do it alone though. - Slonina - No idea. Never heard of him. - Casadei - Same as above. A lot of money for these 2 though, based on very little. Returning - Gallagher - 7/10 - Gives us a bit of depth, but he's not suited to CM really. He can't pass, loses the ball under pressure. He's more of an attacking midfielder, and I just don't see where he fits in, with this current squad. - Broja - 7/10 - Hard to see him getting much game time now we've signed Aubameyang, plus Tuchel's insistence on using Havertz up there. But hopefully he will get a few games, a few goals, and push on from there. OUT - Rudiger - 0/10 - Terrible by the outgoing board to not sort out his contract situation sooner. Lost a quality player for nothing. - Alonso - 10/10 - Was the right time to leave. Infuriating player, but important for a few seasons at LWB, and came up with some important goals and moments. - Christensen - 5/10 - Again, poor to let his contract run out, but by the sounds of it, he wanted to go anyway. Was never anything special. Showed up occasionally. - Barkley - 10/10 - Should have left years ago - Werner - 6/10 - Right decision to get rid of him, but awful price. Massive loss taken on this one. - Kenedy - 10/10 - Finally. - Miazga - 10/10 - Emerson - 10/10 - Gilmour - 6/10 - Bit of a shame he didn't get many chances under Tuchel, but can't see him going too much further at this level. The main issue here is the horrendous price we got for him. - Drinkwater - 10/10 - Halleluiah. What an awful signing. - Musonda - 10/10 - I give it about a month before he falls out with his new club and starts posting weird sh*t on instagram. - Batshayui - 10/10 - Thank god. Loans - Lukaku - 10/10 - 10 for getting rid of him. 0 for whoever was in charge of this transfer. We've literally given Inter 100m for free. - Colwill - 10/10 - Gets some much needed PL experience (hopefully, if Brighton play him), and we keep him on the books for next season. - Sarr - 5/10 - Why couldn't we just sell him? He's garbage. - Baba - 0/10 - For the love of god, just sell or release him. Why waste everyone's time with yet another loan? - Ampadu - 6/10 - Never going to make it at the top level, so I don't really care either way. - Vale - 7/10 - Be interesting to see how he does in the Championship. I think he'll struggle. He's overhyped. - Hudson-Odoi - 7/10 - A loan about 3 years too late, but maybe he'll get a run of games and improve. Who knows. Nice summary. I make that 206/280 so we'll call that 7.4/10 🙂 Spiller86 1

Big risk in midfield, bringing in a young player on the back of a major injury, letting Gilmour go for a frankly ridiculous fee, keeping Jorginho. I really don’t understand the obsession with Gilmour and frankly, our youth in general. It’s rare that any youth make it in any team, almost all of them leave and not all of them become much of anything. If there’s not a future here, take the fee and get rid. Would love to see some percentages on the hit rate of our youth, I bet it’s quite small. Just because Mount and James have become first team regulars and done well, doesn’t mean every youth player should get the same chance. Spiller86 1
hawkster Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Where's Bats gone to I thought it fell through ?
Sheva Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 I am curious what people think our best 11 is on paper with these additions. -------------Mendy--------- James -- Fofana - Silva -- Kouli --- Cucu ------- Kante ---- Kova -------- ? ---- Auba ----- Sterling Where do Kai and Mount fit in this system? If we went to a back 4 I assume one of them plays as a number 8/10 but we still have the issue of the right wing. Tuchel needs to get into the idea of dropping Kai and Mason more as I don't think any of them are suited to that role.
Deino Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 I gave 8/10 though 7.5 would be more accurate. We shifted tons of deadwood and brought in good replacements. Only disappointment is midfield. We could have definitely get Tielemans and Rice if we went in earlier in the season looking for midfielders

IliyaKrostin Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 I'd give it 7. First of all the players who came in are Tuchel's targets, which is good thing to happen. Boehly supported us with the best way he could, he just gave everything for the success. I believe with the amount we had, we could bring more quality players, but I also feel that there's a young project going on, we've signed some young promising talents which is good for the future. Sterling is a top player and our best signing, I wanted us to bring at least two another world class players, but didn't, I still trust in Tuchel. Big bonus that we loaned, sold and released some players that just took a spot in our squad and they're not needed here, building a top squad always starts by cleaning the squad from players that you don't need and actually take a nice payment.
Scott Harris Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 I'm going to give it a 5. I personally think we have overpaid for our signings, not because I think they are bad players, but because I think in the future, this will come back to bite us. I expect most clubs from here on out will be asking for a lot more money than they would have before for their players and I don't think we can sustain it. As for the players going out, it's a mixed bag. I think it's good that we got so much deadwood off our books at last, but at the same time, I feel like we could have got a bit more money for some of them. Werner was too cheap, he'll be a success back in Germany where the style of football suits him more and I think we should have at least got £30m for him. I'm hoping there is at least a few performance bonuses in there for us. The midfield problem is still a problem. Zakaria was 100% panic because we are desperate and he's not performed at a high level for a few years now. I'm still concerned with our issues upfront, I'm not confident Aubameyang is the same player anymore or will even improve us that much. It's like I said a few weeks ago, he's somebody we should have signed 5 years ago, if we had, we would now be talking about finding his replacement. The first half of the window was a mess. Failed to get De Ligt, flip flopped on Kounde, Gvardiol was impossible and we made ourselves look a bit stupid with Raphinha. Because of what happened before, it feels like we paid £70m for a 3rd of 4th choice CB. EdinburghBlue and Nibs 2

However, and this has been the elephant in the room since the opening of the transfer window, midfield has not been appropriately dealt with. We are still reliant on Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante, and the last two were injured before kicking a ball in a competitive game. Everybody knew this and Tuchel only realised last week!? We have two prospects in Chukwemeka and Gallagher back, and a panic loan in Zakaria. So I give it a 6/10. Yep, 6/10 is what I gave too. Pleased with some of the signings but still think we are lacking REAL quality in terms of a playmaker in the midfield and I'm disappointed we have stuck with Mendy & Kepa. Bloody bar-codes picked up Pope for just £10M and I would have him over Mendy & Kepa any day. RMH and axman2526 2

Probably not the most ideal signings, but the fee for Auba was peanuts (and allowed Alonso to get gone) and Zakaria on loan is a stop gap, with a small fee and no obligation to buy. Much less panicky than throwing 10s of millions on a permanent signing, a la Drinkwater.
Bluesince66 Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 The jury is still out for me,I really hope by the world cup we're all saying this window was brilliant given everything that's happened, only time will tell.
