Doesn't score, doesn't assist and while they haven't really been that great themselves both Gallagher and Caicedo have outpeformed whats supposed to be our big start all season. Not to be negative but i almost get the feeling he's tapped out and cruising until the transfer window. Hope i'm wrong.
November 7, 20232 yr He was targeted last night, was getting booted from minute 1 and had absolutely no space to play in, it was blatantly Spurs tactics to clog him up, and yet he still played well up until the red card, some incredibly harsh comments being made about him.

He was wrongly being deployed as a 10 for the first 5-6 games. He's our furthest running player so far this season. Effort unmatched. Looking past extremely good games like the one vs. Liverpool, he's still in our topp 3 best players every game.

What are you suggesting, that he's waiting for us to reinforce? Or that he's waiting so he can leave? Because if he's waiting for the latter, he'll be waiting for many transfer windows. The long contracts are risky but they give us an awful lot of power to stop players forcing moves. Personally I think he is still adapting to the league and probably to being a father at 22 in what is still a new country (coupled with the stress of having his mrs towards the end of her pregnancy in the last couple of months or so). Last night he was caught wanting to much time against a very agressive press and was mistiming passes, normally signs that a players head isnt in the right place.

Not about to engage in a discussion that carries this amount of subjectivity. Also - if your belief regarding Enzo is commonly held I think he's being subjected to higher standards than the rest of our players. Here's the average Sofascore rating for Chelsea:

Two international windows, two games at high altitude, zero recovery time, missed Brentford with a muscle injury, subbed last night with an issue.

November 7, 20232 yr More recently Enzo has become a dad again. He spent many games this season as a 10, not his best position. On top of that there is the travel to different altitudes every international break, and being on the go since his transfer to Benfica. I don't think Romeros challange helped him none yesterday either, was seen with an ice pack on his leg after being subbed.
November 7, 20232 yr Probably his worst performance in a while, looked effected by that tackle and he came down early in the 2nd so that's probably why. It's a shame because this game was perfect for him.
November 13, 20232 yr Argentina have Uruguay away on Thursday and Brazil at home on the following Tuesday. Enzo is going to be spent. At some point Pochettino needs to give him and Caicedo some time off to recover from this travel travel him intensity international games.

Thankfully we have no European games so they can both be rested after Newcastle. It also doesn't help that Lavia has been injured because he can easily be a substitute for either

Suggests there could already be fitness issues.

He was very good in the Spurs game up until the awful challenge from Romero that saw the red card. He seemed to be out of sorts after that incident and looked like he picked up an injury before he was subbed early. While he started yesterday he still didn't look 100% to me and I was surprised when he was subbed off. Would be good if he sat out the international break but I suspect he will join up with the Argentina squad.
November 13, 20232 yr I thought he was excellent vs City. Some really good touches and linked the play up well.

Ugo and maybe even Lavia will be available just after the international break, maybe Nkunku as well. After all if Enzo was playing as No 10 why not play a real No 10 for a game or two. There is no European football so at one game a week recovery shouldn't be that much of an effort.

Is the short turn around from the long flights and high intensity games. Uruguay away and then hosting Brazil? Those are 1000mph games.

Of the two, I would say Caicedo has been more underwhelming. He's the one that has made errors leading to goals and had the least influence on our overall performances. I do think Enzo is playing below his best though. I don't think he has been bad, just not influential enough.

Just consider Enzo's role for a second, he had a more defined role when he came and then wanted to play further up the pitch in a more offensive role. This was all reported. He changed his number from 5 to 8 hinting that as well and now he has had both Caicedo and Gallagher working pretty hard every match so that he can have this free role and what not but he actually isn't doing much with it. He has the ball a lot sure and yes he made the most progressive passes but other than that he isn't doing much all things considered and mind you he also runs a lot without the ball but he just isn't effective as he should be at this point. 0 assists, 0 goals. Caicedo has the same number of goal-creating actions as Enzo. I can argue that Enzo as the number 5 (direct upgrade on Jorginho) is a better role for him than whatever he's trying to do this season, at least so far.
